I can remember seeing that at some time in the 80s... got shown this side of the Pond.

Hmmm... reminds me of a show back in the late 70s to do with the Bermuda Triangle. It featured a green fog cloud, Roddy McDowall I think, and some healer guy with a glass tuning fork...

I always thought that show was called Fantastic Voyage or Incredible Voyage.

I liked that show, though I think I only saw one episode.

Roddy McDowall fan here.

Please excuse this pun but, the tuning fork rang a bell.

TRAVELER

Many moons ago there was a syndicated show called "Rocky Jones Space Ranger." Poor production and the characters were bad. But the premise was traveling through our solar system. I think with better writing this could be a good show. With Mars and some of the larger moons populated, like Firefly, they could show the difficulties of keeping the piece between the different populated planets. The ship had a smaller crew than Firefly. Typically only three or four people on a mission. Conflicts would be resolved through diplomacy and subterfuge rather than all out battles in space.

Here's an old sci-fi show for you to ponder. I myself can barely recall this one but I stumbled across the wikipedia entry for it and it sparked some faint memories from childhood.

The show was called "Otherworld". It ran in the USA on CBS from Jan-March of 1985. It was highly promoted but the general public just wasn't ready for a surreal show since those were the days of the standard situational comedy. It would take 5 more years for another mainstream surreal show (Twin Peaks) to finally break the standards in 1990. (There's another that could be re-done too) But alas for Otherworld, it was buried and forgotten. Here is a link to the Wiki article about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otherworld_%28TV_series%29

The plot of the series was that a family of 5 was on holiday in Egypt and took a tour of the great pyramid. When they exited they somehow found themselves in another world alike to earth but also vastly different. As a little boy I was captured by this idea and watched every episode before it was canceled. But after it went off the air I quickly forgot about it (as kids do). Then in 1992 when Stargate the movie came out I recalled the show from 1985 but by then I had forgotten all about it save only for some fuzzy memories. I wondered then, and still do now, if the writers for stargate had copied some ideas from Otherworld.

Maybe someone else remembers this show. It died a quick death and has been long forgotten.

YES. I was trying to remember the name of this show and if anybody had watched it. It was a bit kitchie in some places but it was a great concept. I remember the world (or alternate dimension) they found themselves in was very sterile. Very linear and very, very conservative, or maybe better to describe as socailist. They were trying to find their way home and along the way made the people think and left some very strong messages of democracy and fighting for individual rights (been so long, I hope I'm remembering right) And all the while they were being chased by the powers that be to stop their wild ideas of freedom from spreading. One that stands out (and is the only one I really remember well) is when the teens introduced Rock and Roll that sent as much of a shockwave there as it did here, that may have been the catalyst that sent the authorities after them. Man it was a good show. Thank you so much for remembering theifjehat. It would be great if they could remake that show.

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

This might be a stretch, but after the way that BSG was redone in such a great manner, what about Land of the Lost? With modern special effects and good story writing, this could be good stuff!

mornin browncoats,

I'm sure that everyone here is in the same mindset that any new re-make of an old si/fi movie or series would above all need to be made with "quality" first or a re-make wouldn't be worth paining the eyes to watch.

Anyhoo with that said I submit to you two movies that I think would make incredibile tv series or maybe a mini series would work.

1) Planet of the Apes

2) Starship Troopers

Now when I say "quality" I do mean that of the same caliber as the movie was made or at least the quality of FF. A good creative team with a group of very good actors and crew workers would do the trick. I'm sure there are others that I would mention if I could think of them right now, just these were the first two.

Land of the Lost has already had a remake in 1991 and there is a listing on IMDB for a 2008 show that is in development. Seems this show just keeps coming back.

The concept in and of itself shows so much promise, if they made it for grown-ups, like BSG is now, or even Doctor Who.

There was a Planet of the Apes TV series which only lasted a season but had many of the same people from the movies supplying the talent. It's out on DVD if you fancy.

What about Day of the Triffids? Ripe for a remake in these shiny days of CGI.
