Just wanted to mention that if you tuned into the pilot and left in disgust at the plain-vanillaness of the show, you may wanna try again.

Between the pilot and the rest of the series, it looks like Jake 2.0 got David Greenwalt as showrunner, and while it didn't suddenly burst out into Greenwaltness and become Profit, it certainly took strides in a much more focused and unique direction than the pilot did.

Just saying, this might be worth a second glance, especially as it's the last week before Jake 2.0 and Angel run in the same timeslot.

I agree with you on the pilot being weak, the second episode was better but the actors all still look really scared or nervous to be on TV. That's the way it came off to me at least. I'm going to give it one more week because it is on after Enterprise which I still like and as you stated, Angel is not premiering until next week. If Jake2.0 is better again, I might have to tape it next week!

Hmmm. Didn't get a scared-vibe off any of the performers, although they haven't settled in and gelled, yet. I got more of a clearing-the-decks overall vibe on the episode. They got rid of the annoying roomate (yay!), everybody got more ACTUAL character to play, and the contrast of Jake's eager naivete vs. the seasoned NSA agents' cynicism and experience got planted. I have a feeling that's going to be one of the keystones of the series.

Mostly, I'm just peeved that the ex-Greenwalt run show is up against the new Greenwalt-run show. And they're both up against West Wing. Dammit. Wednesday nights are really crowded this season.

I found that the pilot was exactly what I expected it to be, while subsequent episodes have improved greatly.

The episode that aired yesternight was the best yet, methought....

A college buddy of mine works on the show, so I decided to check it out.

I had no expectations either way and have been pleasantly surprised on a weekly basis. This is a good show!

My only complaint: Vancouver, BC (a city that I love to death!) is a poor fill in for Washington, DC. When you're up that far north, the sun is lower in the sky which causes outdoor daylight scenes to seem underlit. This dingy-gray daylight worked well for the first five seasons of X-Files (which also filmed in BC), but seems to hinder Jake 2.0 somehow. I'll try to get over it though!

The stories, acting and directing are top notch and I will certainly continue to follow the exploits of Jake as long as Greenwalt and Co. keep the quality level as high as it's been.

Did you find that Toronto served you better in the pilot episode as a Washington stand-in?

I didn't start noticing BC as an odd choice to film something taking place in DC until the second or third episode of Jake 2.0.

Probably because Toronto doesn't have a very obvious mountain range in the background...

I've become a GINORMOUS Jake 2.0 fan. It reminds me so much of the shows I grew up watching (Greatest American Hero, Scarecrow & Mrs. King, The Bionic Woman) but with a great 21st century sensibility (not unlike The Invisible Man). I'm totally hooked (and yes, being me, I've launched a fan site ( http://www.loony-archivist.com/geeklove) and have started writing fan fiction ( http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/j20.html).

I really urge you guys to check it out, now that Angel is in reruns for winter. They're re-airing the 3rd ep next week, and some of the spoilers for upcoming eps look amazing.

I caught part of an episode (I'm guessing it was the pilot) the other day while flipping channels.

It looked pretty good... I'll have to pick up the DVDs eventually so I can watch it properly.

Any guesses at when the Season One DVDs will be coming out?

Well, the first season hasn't even finished airing yet--so no clue if the show will (ever) be released on DVD. But I highly recommend catching up on the show in reruns, and they should have new eps in a few weeks. I've got a website here:

http://www.loony-archivist.com/j20

which has all the latest news/schedules.

I can say with all honesty that I did watch the first ep. Half of it at any rate. Thought it was kind of lackluster, boring even. Good concept for show with the nanoprobes and all, but I think they need to tinker with script, characters, effects. Just can't shake the feeling that Jake 2.0 reminds me a lot of The Invisible Man series with Vincent Ventresca. Around my area, 2.0 airs after Enterprise,( which I don't even bother watching anymore) so, unless 2.0 has improved greatly I think I'll just stick to my B5 and FIREFLY dvd's thank you very much!

Saw the pilot and I wasn't super impressed, but I saw some potential. Unfortunately I wasn't going to give up on an established Greenwalt show Angel for something that might pan out.

I think UPN should try a different time slot. They should move Enterprise too (I think Friday at 8:00 for Enterprise )

No, I wasn't really impressed with the series--I didn't feel exactly the same way as I had with Miracles. Though, of course I wouldn't. They're totally different series. Still, I liked Jake 2.0 and I was waiting for the moment the writers were going to pair Jake and Diane....and we never got to see that moment. And for that I am severly upset. There were some *guh* moments of the series...but it wasn't enough to turn me away. It managed to keep my interest. It's a shame that another series with obvious potential has gotten the axe before its time. *GRRRR*

The show VASTLY improved over the pilot--it really started to hit its stride with "The Good, The Bad, and the Geeky" and was just getting better and better with each ep. The focus shifted in "Last Man Standing", which was a fantastic character-driven episode which not only ramped up the Jake/Diane, but really did wonderful things for the character of Jake. And a plot arc was introduced in "The Spy Who Really Liked Me" that was only just starting to hit its stride when the show went on hiatus. The 4 unaired eps include a 3-parter which looks like it will be FANTASTIC.

I think the show was really developing as time progressed. Last I heard the rest of the season was ordered, but has yet to appear, so I don't know what happened. They are giving Jake more of an edge, and he is getting tired of having his life so acutely monitored. He has actually developed a true partnership with his mentor, and has respect from his boss. I hope it makes it, but being decent sci-fi, probably not. Who are the Nielson's anyway? Do they go to school and know how to read? It seems the low rent stuff that does well (I am speaking generically) speaks to a less educated person, while Sci-fi makes you think. Thus it takes a more intelligent person to get it. It is sad the lowest common denominator gets to decide what the rest of us watch.

Sorry, ranting.

Unfortunately, like "Firefly", after they got the back 9 picked up, the network cut the order (from 22 eps to 19). And then a week after sending out the press release advertising the sweeps eps, up and halted production in the middle of ep #16.

They finished up 16, but we'll never see 17, 18, and 19, which was planned as the season/series finale, because those shows were unproduced. And we may never see the 4 unaired eps (eps #13-16)--or at least until they air on Sky One this summer and some kind soul puts them up on BitTorrent.

However, there's a write-in campaign as well as a DVD campaign at http://www.loony-archivist.com/j20 . If you've 5 minutes and a stamp to spare, maybe we can get a 2nd lease on life for Jake... It's a small thing, sending postcards, but the only thing the fans can do that makes a difference.

Does anybody else see a connection here:

Jake 2.0 works for the NSA, so the first premise is, gov't is good. Show gets picked up.
Then the stories gradually reveal the evil associated with the black ops and negative thinking of the TV version of the NSA.
Jake brings that evil to light and essentially makes things right.
I.e., gov't is BAD.
Show gets cancelled.

fIREFLY: No one knows what gives at first with this odd show. Show gets picked up.
Then, show premise becomes obvious: gov't is BAD.
As soon as the TV powers realize this,
Show gets cancelled.

Coincidence? A trend? Does this apply to Angel, with Wolfram & Hart being the once-embraced but now dreaded "gov't?" Or is this a stretch?

Do any other cancelled shows reflect this anti-gov't bias? I watch little TV so don't know.

Please post if you know of any.

um... I doubt there was a government conspiracy to cancel shows which portray authority as bad.

It's more that UPN and FOX have no idea how to schedule cult tv in a way that makes them money (Jake's ratinsg were hunky dorry until "Angel" returned, and then poor j20 got hammered in teh ratings, all because UPN refused to budge jake from the slot post-ENT), and we the fans have to pay for their incompetance.

"Counter programming" is a foreign concept to them--unless they're using it as an excuse to axe a show. (as they are with Jake, re: the ANTM encore presentation).

Sounds good to me. How do you think "The West Wing" and "Law & Order" lasted so long?

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

One of the actors formerly on "Law & Order" has a daughter who is an active shooter (handguns, I believe). As soon as this became known, her father got fired from the show. This was a while back. The daughter is an actress, also. Can't recall the family name....
