Craig did a good job, but if Pierce isn't gonna do any more, I say Gerard Butler is the man for the job!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well Gerard is Scottish so I think he could do the accent without any trouble. I think he is very talented and would do a great job with the part. He was excellent in 300.

I heard on another site that Gerard has been approached to play Snake Plissken in a remake of Escape From New York. Not sure why someone would find it necessary to try to do a remake of a classic, except the obvious desire for easy money. Gerard has not signed yet, but is said to be considering it.

Sorry, I LOVE Daniel! He looks like my b/friend!

I think there are other things he could do, he is a very good actor, the Snake Pliskin thing would be good.

Gerard was on my list before Craig's casting was announced. I really liked him from Timeline and even his role in that Lara Croft movie.

I thought Craig was great, and he's already signed for at least the next one, so it's moot.

As for Butler and Escape from NY, it is set. New Line picked it up, with Butler attatched 2 days ago (after Butler and the producers started shopping it around last week).

But, according to John Carpenter, who co-own the Snake character along with Kurt Russell and a couple others, this new one will be more of a prequel than a re-make.

Hmmmm. Still no confirmation on IMDB for Gerard being onboard for the remake / prequel (whatever it winds up being).

Personally I think Daniel Craig is the best BOND ever!!!!!!!

+he's got a contract for another 3 BOND movies, & Gerald Butler is too muscley I mean Daniel's fitt but Gerald Butler has like a big 6 pack & just wouldn't fit the James Bond character.

Here's an article from Variety announcing New Line's acquisition of the project: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117961252.html?categoryId=1959&cs=1

And here's an interview with Carpenter, where he talks about it:

And an interview with Kurt Russell (who unlike Carpenter, is NOT happy about this):

Yeh I agree, we are on the same page. He has the build. Craig has the it on screen does good. Gerard can do it. If Craig gets hit by a train he's got the job. Also Danny boy is from Liverpool. Come on nobody from Liverpool has class its the Pittsburgh of England. Your secret agent needs a touch of class. Butler can do it.

Nah.... just saw Casino Royale 2 days ago and thought it was the best Bond movie ever by far. Craig's got my vote.

I don't think Gerard should be Snake either. I don't think he could ever fill Kurt Russell's shoes.

No he can't do the snake that's sacrilage. But he could handle Bond. Danny's got that gig for awhile. We have a real nice theater here after movies go off the marquie for $1.25 and $2.00 bucks after six with low priced pop corn. Yeh there's something at the big screen which ya can't put on the dvd. I saw Jimmy Bond about oh 5 times two more on dvd. But 007 is the boss. Lets get Mr White in the next one damn it.

Yeah... bummer about him confirmed for Snake.

I think he could handle Bond, but Craig's kinda reinvented Bond in my eyes. I think Gerard would have made a good old school Bond, but I don't think he could play a Craig Bond.

I'm not sure if he can do it. In every movie he's done Butler has been very evocative. To be James Bond, or atleast the James Bond in my minds eye, a actor has to be a touch cold. Maybe I just haven't seen him do it yet.

I just saw Casino Royale and I was very impressed by Craig so I'm not in the mood for a change, but if I had to choose some one else, the actor would be Clive Owen. If you don't believe me watch The Croupier and I'll Sleep When I'm Dead.

I don't know if you were one of the 8 people who saw Dracula 2000 like me, but he did play Dracula on that and I'd imagine that takes a bit of a cold attitude to play. I thought he did a pretty good job as Dracula, although I give the movie itself about 4 stars out of 10. (Would have been 2 or 3, but there were loads of devistatingly beautiful women in it).

I think he's probably cold enough based soley on his performance in D2000. Craig just impressed me so much with his portrayal of Bond. I couldn't see going back to the old James Bond which I'd have to agree with Chrisisall that he would have made a great replacement for Pierce Brosnan.

I'm with Russel on this. Bond, Tarzan, even Superman can be played by different actors, but Russel IS Pliskin; they should just let a classic stand.
Wanna remake The Maltese Falcon, too?

I thought Clive Owen would have made a fantastic Bond. But he's far to big a name nowadays. Gerard probably would have done pretty well, but I agree that he is just a bit too burly.

If I saw D2K I don't remember it. I used to remember Every movie I ever saw in the finest detail. In the last eight years or so my attention has started to wander. If you say he can do then I believe you.

I love my captain

Ok. You don't even want to get me started on Gerard Butler. I've been going on about him since Dracula 2000 (which I agree isn't the best movie but he rocked in it) and have hunted up some of his other movies. He is an absolutely amazing actor. Timeline and Tombraider 2 are not exactly the best things on his resume. Why don't you go dig up Dear Frankie or Beowulf and Grendel.

As to the build, those abs were formed specifically for 300. He doesn't have anywhere near that definition in Timeline. He's usually in decent shape but they pushed the cast hard for the look in that movie and he worked so hard on it he hurt himself and did a backslide as soon as filming wrapped. He is a tall (6'4") man with broad shoulders though. The scottish accent should be fine too since Sean Connery (as far as I'm concerned the "real" Bond) is also a scott.

As to the Snake Pliskin thing. Why not? I think he would do a wonderful job in that role. Yeah Kurt Russel will always be Snake in my head but as mentioned earlier he owns part of the right for those films so he'd have to have isgned off on the new casting. And if they plan on doing a prequel Kurt is looking a little old for it. Mr. Butler should be able to fill in nicely. The only real problem that comes to mind is a slight continuity conflict with all those "I thought you'd be taller" comments in Escape from LA because Butler is taller.

Mal: Yeah, well I'm known for that.
