Hello all:

A few months back, Jstn the moderator over at http://www.savesurface.com/ chimed in over here at fff.net to mention that the fans over at savesurface shared a kinship with us Browncoats. Both series had an un-cerimonious end on the small screen: cancellation.

He also mentioned that in spite of the long odds the fans of Surface were trying every method known to them to convince NBC execs to bring Surface back. All the fans wanted was a second season or at the very least a mini series to give some closure to the show.

The campaign to get that closure ran into a brick wall (the efforts of the fans fell on deaf ears) and the grass roots effort to bring Surface back was canceled, recently. The powers that be at NBC did not even want to reconsider things and so we went on to other discussions

THEN two things happened that gave the Surface crowd a little ray of hope

* Jericho got canceled by CBS and a campaign to send the network bags upon bags of nuts was enacted by Jericho's fan base. This action was of aid to allow powers that be to announce a likely film to be made to close out Jericho.

* NBC tired of Kevin Reilly, their CEO, who could not bring NBC out of its 4th place slump. Reilly got the ax last week. He was not a fan of Surface which he termed 'that fish show'.

****
The fans at the discussion boards at http://www.savesurface.com/phpBB2/ are discussing what to try next what with the new regime at NBC. It is understood the requests for more Surface stuff might not pan out but at least something was tried (I'm anticipating those trolls who could come onto this thread and say "IT WON"T WORK")

The discussions about what has been/ will be tried can be found on the sub threads contained in this main thread http://www.savesurface.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=2

C'mon over to savesurface and kick the tires. You might enjoy yourselves.

And just in case you didn't know what the @#$@! Surface is here is a plot synopsis

Surface (originally titled Fathom) was a science fiction television series that premiered on NBC on September 19, 2005. The program aired fifteen episodes until February 6, 2006, before going on hiatus due to the coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics and awaiting word on whether it would be renewed for a second season. On May 15, 2006, NBC officially announced the series' cancellation .....

The series was about all the following and more (____spoiler alert_____): During a routine submersible dive in the North Pacific Ocean, California oceanographer Laura Daughtery (Lake Bell) is attacked by an unknown life form that appears out of a field of craters on the ocean's floor. Miles Barnett (Carter Jenkins), a North Carolina teen, finds himself face to face with the strange sea creature after falling off his wakeboard during a nighttime outing with his friends. Meanwhile, Richard Connelly (Jay R. Ferguson), a Louisiana man on a fishing trip, loses his brother in a suspicious diving accident when the creature drags him to the depths of the Gulf of Mexico.

All around the world, strange things are occurring in the world's oceans .....

The rest of that plot description can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_(TV_series)

In closing. I'd like to say that I have seen a few episodes of Surface. Intriguing concept, campy acting sometimes, etc. Also, like Firefly, I'd like to see the series continue in some format

I have been corrected, Surface does not contain campy acting *L*

And if any of the Browncoats are now or will be fans of Surface feel free to join in on any campaign to save Surface or at the very least sign up on the boards or just lurk there
