Kay, so I just saw 'Epic Movie', and is it just me or is there a nod to Serenity in there when the White Bitch kills Jack Swallows? She hands him his cashy money, he says nice doing business with you, she stabs him in the gut with her sword.

Maybe I'm just starting to see Serenity everywhere, but the first thing that seriously popped into my head at that was "Hey look, Serenity nod!".

What do people think? Am I delusional? If so, that's cool, I like this form of delusion where I see little bits of our favourite series and movie everywhere.

"Kaylee, find that kid who's takin a dirt nap with Baby Jesus: we need a hood ornament!"

Havn't seen the movie , I would rather shove a broken ended glass Coke bottle up my ass before seeing that movie, but from the way you described it, no I don't think that's a SERENITY reference.

Although, now that you do mention it, there have been times where I'm seeing something non sci-fi and it reminds me of FIREFLY. THE AVIATOR is a prime example. The character of Otie, the engineer who helps Howard re-modify and design all these planes reminds me of Kaylee and Wash. Even the actor playing him reminds me of Wash and Alan, even though he went on to play creepy Alby in BIG LOVE. The WW1 dogfight in the movie that was the big set piece in HELL'S ANGELS also reminded me of the Alliance vs. Reavers fight in SERENITY. And at the end of THE AVIATOR, Howard sees the waiters with the white gloves coming towards him and finally snaps and starts saying "Way of the future" over and over again.

I can't imagine Martin Scorsese ever seeing any TV shows period, let alone FIREFLY. And I'm sure it's just me projecting my Browncoat geekiness onto a big historical epic, but it's something I like to entertain myself with.

The only thing that would make me want to see some part of 'Epic Movie' is Kevin McDonald as an older, burnt out version of Harry Potter. But it's most likely nowhere near as imaginative if maybe Kevin and Dave did a sketch like that on KIDS IN THE HALL. It's a funny premise that when you hear it sounds cool. But it would only work if the Harry Potter phenomena and KIDS IN THE HALL were on at the same time.

If someone could YouTube that, then I could spare myself the humiliation of renting that POS.

Ooh, a Kid's in the Hall fan. So nice to see them getting the attention south of the border. I always found KITH closer to the original Python than SNL (original) I mean hell, they even dressed as women (and they even looked good sometimes *shudder*) And some of the KITH humour was downright dark. We tend to be like that up here. After all,we have a fusion of British and American humour.

As for Epic movie spoofing Firefly/Serenity, only when you see Mal, Inarah and The Operative look a likes will you know for sure. Sadly it hasn't come to that.

Well... the guy who played Jack kinda looked like Inara if you squint your eyes almost closed and put your head on the side and suspend all your senses.

I know. I'm reaching.

Just to bounce this thread again, there's another show on the air now that kinda reminds me of FIREFLY in a small way.

Do you or anyone else here watch BIG LOVE, the show about polygamists on HBO? I watch that show, and for the longest time, I've always seen parallels between Kaylee and Margene, the third wife played by Ginnifer Goodwin. Every time you see Margene, she's this little ball of sunshine that has an eternal smile on her face. And in this week's ep, she befriended Anna, this Serbian waitress that Bill was considering for a fourth wife. She actually seemed more excited over her being the fourth wife than Bill was. You get this hint of loneliness in her, that maybe her eternally sunny disposition put more people off than on. And maybe that could have been the same thing for Kaylee. We assume that she's from this huge loving family and that she was the circle of attention of everyone around her. But maybe the reason she latched on so hard with the crew of Serenity was because maybe she was a bit of a weirdo in her hometown on her own planet. Big family, but not that many friends.

So does anyone watch BIG LOVE and feel they're seeing Kaylee again whenever Margene comes on the screen.
