I just found this article: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/071030d.php

X-Files 2 starts shooting on December 10th in Vancouver! It's to be released some time next year! Whoo-hoo!

Wow, it is great to finally hear some news that is forward moving about this project. I have been an X-file fan for a long time. Even though I didn't watch from the first episode I have seen pretty much every episode now. My brother and I have fond memories of sitting down for Sunday night at 9pm for Mulder and Scully! I miss that. It was one of the great shows for Sci-Fi. I hope they hurry up and make the movie before David and Gillian get too much older. At this rate the plot will be about the invasion in the future because it has been 10 years almost. I wait in anticipation!

Wow,

That's great news. I'll certainly be looking forward to it, if nothing more than to remove the sting of its last couple tv seasons.

I remember sitting down on Friday nights to watch VR-5 and X-files. Good times.

Or at least have a flashback with the Lone Gunmen, 'cause you know that no one ever really dies on The X-Files!!

Oh, and the release date is July 25, 2008.

*sigh* If only that were so... I've been keeping tabs on this since the show ended and DD started giving us hope on his Late Night appearances... But the writers - I can't remember if it was Chris Carter himself or Frank Spotnitz or whoever - said that the movie is a STANDALONE. Meaning it will have nothing to do with the MYTHOLOGY of the show.

"WTF?" I said. "So they're just going to leave us hanging about the colonization/aliens/fate of humanity?"

Aparently so. I have no idea how Mulder and Scully are supposed to investigate non-alien things if they're NO LONGER WORKING FOR THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION!!!

Arrrgh!

Well, that makes no sense at all does it. All this time my brother and I have been waiting for them to address the inevitable invasion that the whole show was leading up to and seeing as Mulder and Scully aren't with the FBI at the end of it all it made sense to have this thing happen and involve the baby. I will be happy when it finally comes out but this does dash my excitment a bit. I was looking forward to a resolution or a climactic event that would kind of finish what the series started and was about for 9 seasons.

You and everyone else in the fandom! I don't know what Chris Carter could be thinking.

I'm hoping that maybe it's a ruse so that if any spoilers get leaked, the surprises won't be ruined.

A pathetic rationalization, I know.

Yes, we could hope it is just a way to keep spoiler leakage under control. I don't think it is a pathetic rationalization. Its not really out of my way to keep hoping. I am after all holding for a BDM sequel no matter how dim the chances may be.

I just hope they get their act together and actually are starting production, or are they still writing? The last time my brother told me about what he had heard the writers were on hiatus again.

Hmmm... Well, I'm a huge fan of the funny episodes. And the "shippy" episodes...

Season 1:
Pilot, Squeeze, The Jersey Devil, Ice, Eve, Fire, Beyond the Sea, Young at Heart, Darkness Falls

Season 2:
The Host (oh dear god, the flukeman!), Duane Barry, Ascension, 3, One Breath, Irresistible (Donnie Pfaster is quite possibly the creepiest "Monster of the Week" of the entire series), Colony, End Game, Humbug, Our Town, Anasazi

Season 3:
The Blessing Way, Paper Clip, DPO, Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose (Peter Boyle was hilarious - that crack directed at Mulder about auto-erotic asphyxiation? Classic.)
2Shy, Oubliette (staring little Jewel Staite), Syzygy, Grotesque, Pusher, Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space', Quagmire

Season 4:
Home, Unruhe, The Field Where I Died, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, Tunguska, Terma, Paper Hearts (chilling!), Never Again, Memento Mori, Kaddish, Small Potatoes (Eddie Van Blundht as Mulder almost kisses Scully! I almost wept.)
Demons, Gethsemane

Season 5:
Redux, Redux II, Unusual Suspects, Detour, Post-Modern Prometheus (the Frankenstein-inspired black and white ep. "Cher loved that boy..." and that scene where Mulder and Scully dance to "Walking in Memphis". My shipper heart skipped a beat.), Christmas Carol, Emily, Kitsunegari, Kill Switch, Bad Blood (Luke Wilson as the buck-toothed - or was he? - hick sheriff. The he-said, she-said episode. Brilliant. Hilarious. One of my all-time favs.)
Patient X, The Red and the Black, Mind's Eye, All Souls, The Pine Bluff Variant

Season 6:
Triangle (Mulder and Scully finally kiss! Sort of.), Dreamland, Dreamland II (Mulder switches bodies with a MIB - another funny one), How the Ghosts Stole Christmas (Ed Asner and Lily Tomlin are two ghosts who try to psychoanalyze Mulder and Scully - laughed so hard I almost wet myself), Terms of Endearment, The Rain King, Tithonus, Monday (AKA The Groundhog Day episode), Arcadia (Mulder and Scully go undercover as a married couple - lots of great sexual innuendo), Milagro, The Unnatural (Jesse L. Martin - Collins from Rent - plays a singing, baseball-loving alien), Three of a Kind, Field Trip, Biogenisis

Season 7:
The Sixth Extinction, The Sixth Extinction II: Amor Fati, Millenium (Mulder and Scully finally kiss! For reals, yo! I almost hypervenalated when it happened. I am not joking.), The Goldberg Variation, Orison (The return of Donnie Pfaster! *shudder*), The Amazing Maleeni, Sein und Zeit, Closure (The mystery of Samantha Mulder is solved.), En Ami, all things (The episode where, arguably, Mulder and Scully finally got horizontal. YAY!), Hollywood A.D. (Gary Shandling and Tea Leoni play Mulder and Scully - very funny ep.), Je Souhaite (Will Sasso and Kevin Weisman are hysterical!), Requiem (Mulder finally gets abducted by aliens - it was evitable, really - and Scully's pregnant!)

Season 8:
Within, Without, Badlaa (only liked it for Scully's little meltdown over Mulder being missing), The Gift (D.D. was in it.), Per Manum (Scully is heartbroken and pregnant - lots of Mulder flashbacks. *sniff*), This Is Not Happening (Mulder's dead!), Deadalive (Mulder's not dead!), Three Words, Existence (Baby Sculder arrives! Smoochies! I wish the series had ended here.)

Season 9:
Nothing Important Happened Today, Trust No 1 (Mulder was kinda - but not really - in this one.), Jump the Shark (I actually hate this episode because they killed off the Lone Gunmen in it, but the guys are the stars of the episode, so I watch it with misty eyes.), William, The Truth (didn't really like it that much, but it *was* the series finale and D.D. *was* in it.)

So there's the list. I can only say...

Well, you asked for it.

Oubliette is one of my big favs. Post-modern Prometheus, Rain King, all the mythology eps like Colony and End Game, I like Wet Wired, Paper Hearts, Unruhe, Darkness Falls, Detour,The Host, Duane Barry, Ascension, One Breath, HumBug,Anasazi, Blessing Way, Kill Switch... it goes on but really almost all of what your favs are. I was a big 'shipper' too. I didn't care much at all for season 9 but watched because it was the end. My Fav seasons are really 5 and 6 though I love a lot from seasons 1 and 2 as well.

LOL! It is rather surreal that they are starting production now. I remember keeping tabs on the movie a long time ago- years in fact at least two or three, if not more. My brother is ticked that the movie is going to be stand-alone. They have got to connect it to the series ending though. Okay maybe they won't have William show up but they just have to address something about the invasion- it is the X-Files! It is all about the collection of the mythology and the relationship and the long journey these characters have taken together.

Won't it be so awesone and strange to see Mulder adn Scully again?

All this X-File talk is causing memories to surface. The waiting in anticipation until Sunday night at 9pm. When my brother and I would save up so when we went to our father's every other weekend we could buy a new X-File tape. They had most of season 1 and 2 on VHS we have all of the ones they put out. I remember how we couldn't wait to get it home and watch it. We would share the cards that came inside them one for each episode they portrayed the episode in unique images done by an artist whose name I don't remember now. I remember how much we wanted Mulder and Scully to have thier 'moments' as we called them where they got close. I recall when Millenium came on we had waited all this time. When they kissed my brother was like "doesn't count its just new years!" I repliedd " Yes it does! They're just using it as an exuse!" And when Triangle was on it was me who was saying " That doesn't count because its not Scully, but on the other hand Mulder kissed her so he wants to kiss Scully too." But I love the end of the episode where Mulder tells her that he loves her, I love the music in this scene, the x-file theme softened by piano and played in a different key, it was gentle and beautiful. Makes me want to go home after work and watch it again. Maybe I will.

Not to interrupt the dialogue between you two, but I too am also excited for this. I'll definitely be picking up the seasonal DVD's from the library or even HMV for 20 bucks just to reacquaint myself with the show before I see the sequel. I mean, it has been a while. Ten years between the first movie and seven between the end of the series. I mean, it took ten years for STAR TREK to go from TV to movies, and it only took FIREFLY a little less than three years to make that transition.

Even though they say that it's a stand-alone, I do wish they would resolve the somewhat cliffhanger that they had in the finale. Even if it's a quick little five minute prologue that explains it away or a quick three line exposition ("Weren't you guys fugitives?";"No, we got our names cleared.";"OK."), that would be good, as opposed to just dismissing it.

**************************************************
"And it starts with a sentence that might last a lifetime, or it all might just go down in flames. If I let you know me, then why would you want me? Each day I don't is a shame. Each day I don't is a great shame."

I will be doing some reaquainting of my own before it gets released. Has it really been 10 years since the first movie? Wow. Funny how time flys isn't it. I think that the X-Files was the first SCI-Fi series I got into completely. I had a friend who is a Trekie and i watched a lot of the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine but I missed a lot of them. I got into SeaQuest DSV when it came out too but I was younger than when I finally discovered the X-Files. My brother and I got into them together. He has the first 2 seasons on DVD as well as 5 and 8. He is still collecting the others. We are so glad they re-released them and made them inexpensive.

When IT happened, I litterally screamed. And then I ran around the house shrieking, "Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod!" All I can say in my defense is that 6 years is a long time to wait for a kiss.

I'm right there with you!

LOL! I always taped episodes off of TV. My dad was forever trying to find a blank tape for him to use for this or that. He'd hold up a tape and say, "Can I use this?"

I'd get this horrified look on my face like he'd just suggested we throw a baby out a window. I'd snatch the tape out of his hands. "Tape over my X-Files?!? Are you on smack?!?"

Here's the thing - this movie should be about Mulder and Scully getting their son back, digging up info about the invasion plan, and then, ya' know, throwing a big enough wrench in the works to force a new timetable to be set. But then, this may be a two movie deal, with the second movie arriving in 2012, just in time for the Mayan calendar to run out as a tie-in.

Course it could also be that Chris Carter is not yet aware that we weren't really impressed with his firm grip on Post-Modernism, and his using the show to push that school of thought. The fans just want it wrapped up so that they can be left with a sense of completion after devoting nine years to keeping track.
