In other words, she's Leonard Nimoy's mother.

I kid you not. She's been cast in the new Star Trek prequel movie to portray Amanda Grayson, the mother of our favorite Vulcan-Human hybrid, Spock.

I think it's really cool how they've got a whole new crew and (mostly) new cast working on Star Trek. J.J. Abrams is a very talented writer-director, so I trust his choices and am looking forward to seeing the film, come Deceber 2008.

This sounds like a bit of stunt casting. If she's playing Amanda, it's probably in a short flashback scene, dealing with Spock 's childhood. I wonder if someone will also be cast to play Spock's father, Sarek.

I'm more excited to hear that Bruce Greenwood was cast to play Captain Pike! He's a great character actor, and he does look a lot like Jeffrey Hunter.

Most of the cast are relatively unknowns, but Having Bruce Greenwood (iRobot, Eight Below), Eric Bana (Blackhawk Down), Zachary Quinto (Heroes), Karl Urban (Bourne Supremacy), and Rachel Nichols (The Inside) in the movie, gives it some acting cred. I'm starting to feel optimistic about this!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I'm certain that's what it'll be and it appears that we'll also get a flashback scene of Kirk's father, George Samuel Kirk Sr., as the actor cast to portray him, Chris Hemsworth, is only 24 years old.

I wouldn't rush to judgment about Miss Ryder being cast in this...So far , the casting seems to have been rather inspired ; Winona's got the chops , and could benefit from the work...

Good to see Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike...
He reminds me rather much of a young Cliff Robertson , and I've enjoyed Bruce's work so far .

Eric Bana was 'The Hulk' , too , which seems to cause some folk around here to cringe...Except for a contrived and drawn-out ending , it seemed a decent film to me .

Zach Quinto as Spock is a truly excellent choice...So long as he doesn't 'phone it in'.

For those who haven't heard: Ben Cross has been cast as Sarek, Spock's father.

You've seen him in Chariots of Fire, the short lived remake television series Dark Shadows and First Knight.
