Took a double take as he was quite a bit younger and was a bit lighter as well(meaning thinner). The episode was entitled "Small Potatoes"(not sure on the season) and he plays one of the disgruntled fathers. He gets a few lines so it's impossible to miss him. Just thought I'd mention it to all you Carson fans.

Oh yeah! I remember him in that now you mention it. It's one of my fave episode of XF, so I've seen it a number of times (they've had a LOT of future tv stars in that show)
I finally got round to watching the SGA ep Kindred part 1 today. Although Teyla is my least favourite character on the show and I don't care much for the Wraith as villains, I thought it was a solid ep, and it had a GREAT ending.
Can't wait for the second part!

"The Last Man" the season finale for Stargate Atlantis season four premiers tonight in only a couple hours or so. Depending on your location I imagine. For those of you in other countries.... not sure sorry. Be sure to check your Tivo/Etc or tune in to Scifi Channel to catch this undoubtedly exciting season ender. I hear it's some of the best of the season.

Also a rerun of one of the best "Chuck" episodes airs before the rerun of last weeks SGA. "Chuck vs The Sandworm".

I used to watch "SG-1" from time to time and liked it but it was never a religion like "Firefly". Then I saw the pilot for "Atlantis" and wow, it knocked me off my feet! I totally loved the pilot two-parter. The story, the cast, the totally awesome visuals and the glorious music. It is perhaps my favourite pilot episode of any series apart from "Firefly". It was so great to get in at the start of "Atlantis", not just the series but the story of the show, seeing how they found out about its' location and MacKay's "we're not getting out of this" when the MALP reveals there is a breathable atmosphere. Just everything in it rocked. Since then I have been hooked, love the banter and friendship between MacKay and Sheppard as well as the extended family which I actually feel is even tighter than that on "SG-1".

I absolutely believe it is a different animal to its' parent show. While having that lineage behind it, "Atlantis" has more the feel of a colony and the character interactions are priceless gems plus the Wraith - wow, really great scary bad guys but then, are they *really* bad guys? As the Wraith Queen says, "all living things must feed" and we just happen to be on their food chain (gulp). I love the show to bits and can't bear to miss a single episode.

Jewel Stait appeared in one episode as a child Wraith being raised by a human as his surrogate child. Even under tons of make up she was excellent, projecting just the right amount of hesitant vulnerability which then turned into aggression when her Wraith nature took over. However, when she later was asked back to take on the role of Dr Keller it felt to me to be the wrong role for her. Jewel just seemed too young to be suddenly catapulted into the role of the CMO of Atlantis. I also remember "Space Cases" and loved its' whole whacky tongue-in-cheek sci fi slapstick feel and in-jokes. Never saw the second season so wasn't aware Jewel wasn't it in. She was brilliant in that, they all were. For such a young virtually untried cast they were really good and am I the only one who thought the young Captain of the Crysta, Harlan Brand, was a little like a very young Michael O'Hare (Commander Jeffrey Sinclair from the seminal "Babylon 5")?

I also enjoy "Eureka". Oddball, off the wall humour but after you watch a few episodes it isn't actually stupid just fun with very interesting storylines and great acting. Now I need to know when we will get season five of "Atlantis" on in the UK.

is sg atlantis better than the dire @#$% that is sg-1? i suffered through 8 episodes of sg-1 s1 recently, since i am on the lookout for tv scifi as good as bsg and firefly (perhaps an impossibility), and wanted to give sg-1 a chance. might as well have been watching hercules or xena, it was that bad. i cannot stand the star trek "planet of the week populated by fill in the blank primitive culture" stories, which is all sg-1 offered in those episodes. terrible (well, painfully mediocre) writing.

is sg atlantis much better?

what do folks think of the sarah conner chronicles? haven't seen that, but hoping it's good.

You would probably like Sarah Connor Chronicles, pepperg. It has some of the same intensity as Firefly or SG-1.

I have to admit, I'm still a bit surprised by this thread's tone. While I watch SGA every week, I think it is only recently getting to SG-1 quality. There are standout moments like "Poisoning the Well" and the moment in season four when Ronen tells Shepard off ("It was a bad idea then, and it's still a bad idea!"), but by and large SG-1 was the more intelligent show, IMHO. There are many times when SGA feels like lasers and ships. Lots of action, as people have pointed out, but never much challenge. I know sometimes people like action in space (Cisall, I'm looking at you here ), but what about the story of a people's mis-step laden journey into the galactic community?

Sorry, rant over....

Go try "Atlantis" pepperg, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised. If you can get your paws on the pilot episode "Rising" it will help set the tone. Obviously we aren't all the same otherwise we would all be watching the same thing wall to wall and would miss all manner of unexpected little gems.

Is Atlantis better than Season 1 of SG-1? Hell yeah! It was made seven years later, for one, with those seven years of experience under the creators' belt.

But please, don't hold Season 1 against SG-1. I love the show, but I couldn't bear to watch the first season, or even a lot of the second season. But by the time you get to Season 3, the episodes are getting good and the acting and character development is increasing. It takes time to get into, but the show is worth it IMO!

Still, Atlantis is good right from the start, and I've always liked it a little better, because it's different. SG-1 is military sci-fi, where Atlantis is more civilian run, and you can feel it. Plus they're darker and have more overarching plots.

sigh. tried sg atlantis and didn't like it at all. guess i've pretty much seen the best w/ firefly and bsg. watching the sg shows after these shows is like going from the finest filet mignon to burger king. while i may not be a burger snob, i guess i am a tv snob.

I agree - it is the only thing I look forward to watching anymore, and the only thing worth watching on Sci-Fi besides Battlestar. I think it is better than Stargate SG-1, at least, it's more my kind of show than SG-1 was.
I think they they are making a serious mistake by taking Sam out of the show, though. I hope I am wrong!
