British science fiction writer Sir Arthur C Clarke has died in Sri Lanka at the age of 90.

Actually, I never rated him much. I always found his stories to be distant, lacking humanity. Some of his ideas were good and he wasn't a bad writer, (certainly better than RAH IMO) just not one whose stories ever connected with me. On top of that, the revelations about his personal habits, which were unproven and therefore I shouldn't go into, tainted my opinion more than a little.

But yes, the geostationary satellite was his idea, and not from his sf. In fact, I believe he tried to patent it and may well have succeed to a degree.

With this, the last of the big three (Asimov, Clarke and Heinlein) has passed on.

CAVALIER

RIP

I remember buying so many of his books second hand, when I was a kid.

Poor guy probably never made a penny out of me...

Cavalier:

I am sure Clarke made his share of cash.

I am sure he would be pleased you read so many of his books.

I for one never read him. I was a Andre Norton fan for years.
