Seems like this is the next old series to get the "treatment".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7364663.stm

If you don't know, it was a sort of ancestor to Firefly, centred around a bunch of outlaws trying to stay one step ahead of an oppressive federation.

Problem is that it's bloody Sky. I'm on Virgin so I won't be able to get it, have to wait for the DVDs.

Just amazing. I was watching some Blake's 7 this last weekend. One of the best sci-fi shows ever. Not hairball like Space 1999, and written for adults, unlike Doctor Who. And its more than just an ancestor to Firefly. One ship, fighting against an evil, controlling space federation, trying to be free, being pirates, while the captain has higher ideals that some in the crew don't agree with. It is a very similar show in many, but not all aspects. And it only took 30 years for a remake. I hope Paul Darrow is in it somehow. And for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, respect your elders!

Blake, one day your high ideals are going to get us all killed.

My younger brother, who's a big B7 fan, said that the actor who played Avon said that Firefly was B7 for the 21st Century.

I must admit, despite the division 4 special f/x, I always watched B7.

I hope this goes all the way through to a show.
This is a classic British show, with one of the most powerful endings ever, one that got talked about for many years after.

It was a darker show than you'd usually get, the characters rarely got on but kind of put up with one another because they needed each other.
And except for Blake the rest of the original crew were criminals, not something you'd see a lot of on TV at the time. They were afraid to 'do the dirty' to get the job done.

There were some great lines between them, especially Avon and Vila and the show survived several cast changes.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with this.

As a side note I met Paul Darrow (Avon) at Milton Keynes. Very nice bloke, always happy to see the fans and totally not like Avon at all.

I bought it six months ago off an internet site, and beware. I didn't get the entire series like they promised, and the episodes look like they were video taped off the tv. Even then, I was desperate, so there you go.

You probably stand more chance looking on UK websites. I know that you could buy them in shops here in NZ all the time a year or so ago.

http://www.dvdvideoplanet.com/

http://www.realgroovy.co.nz/

these sites have them available in zone 4 for NZ$100 (c. US$80.00) each, plus postage.

UK sites are definitely the best bet.

Amazon.co.uk has the full complete box set if you have the cash and should take just under two weeks to arrive by standard airmail.

Don't know the exchange rate at the minute but it was about double so I'd say the cost (w/o P+P) would be about $180.

They also have the individual boxsets for the 4 seasons but at about £40 ($80) each they are not cheap.

Or you could try my favourite UK site.

www.dvd.co.uk

They have some of the sets cheaper and they ship to the US as well (I checked out their help section).

I couldn't find it either but fortunately a few "friends" of mine had it.

I liked it, though never got around to finishing the first season, maybe I'll do that now. This was around the time they announced that the fourth season of BSG would be the last and I thought it would make a great post-bsg project for RDM because he did such a great job with remaking galactica.

Oh god, no.
I love BSG but RDM would 'Americanize' the show. A show which should remain British.
They tried americanizing Doctor Who with the movie and that didn't really work.

You should finish up season one. I think show gets better as it goes along.
