Now I usually love things that spoof or take the piss out of established themes or ideas etc....

....but that just wasn't funny.
It was crap.
Total and utter crap.

Maybe it's because I'm English but I just don't get a certain type of American comedy. It just doesn't seem funny. In fact it seems silly.

And I always though I had a fairly broad range of comedy.

Oh well....

How can you "not get" it? perhaps that is a commentary on you and your sense of humour more than the subject material.

Ahh.. the English.

And its not American comedy its Australian. Yes we convicts you sent away are "havin a larf"...

I dont know what it is with you English, your humour is... well.. I much prefer the US version of "The Office" to the pommy one.

Yeah I posted (quite long as well) but it don't seem to be here no more.
It wasn't rude (it's not my style).

Thars gremlins in them thar gears again.

Well the basic points were:

Apologies for thinking the clip was US. Reminded of some of their shows and didn't pick up on the accent.

Calhoun are you from the land Down Under?
Lovely country. Must go back and visit the 'inmates' again. I mean friends.

As for the 'get it' comment I made that was referring to some US comedies, not to the Dr Who clip. I get the the joke they are playing about the fans but didn't find it at all funny IMO.
It reminded me of US shows like SNL, Kids In The Hall, Married With Children and many more like it that I (personally) just can't bear to watch. They just make me cringe and turn over the channel.
I can't really think of a word or few to describe the style of comedy I'm talking about but I can spot it as soon as I see the programme for a few minutes.

But, each to our own, of course.
For the record I prefer the UK Office to the US by a long way.

Just for curiosity do you like (if you've seen them):
Red Dwarf
Monty Python
My Name Is Earl
Scrubs
Robot Chicken
Spaced

The things that I find funny about the Chasers Dr Who music video most are the rendition of the theme music (its classic) and you have to laugh at the rabid fanaticism, like how he knows all the actors names, writers, producers the merchandise etc etc.. Cant you see the similarities to all us Firefly fans? I mean we all know all the actors names, the producers, writers, music composer.. all the words to each episode. Hell, I even bought the musical scores for Firefly. I guess I can laugh at myself is why I find it funny.

Does that make sense to you?

Yeah that makes sense. I definitely fall into the category of fanatic when it comes to certain TV shows and films, Doctor Who being one of them. If I invest my time in a show I usually see it through the (sometimes bitter) end. As for DW I have all the new series, all of McCoys, Davisons, the McGann movie and nearly all of Tom Bakers episodes on DVD. Plus the CDs to the new series. And I religiously watch it every week. It's about the only show I don't record and watch later. I even have a Tom Baker era full length knitted scarf. So I guess that makes me a fan.

The skit is clever and very well done and yes adding in the details of the names is good and I'm sure there are some people out there who are really like that (or close).
And yes I can see the similarities between DW fans and FF fans.
But still I can't find anything to laugh at. And I can definitely laugh at myself. I'm a chunky fella and have a T-shirt with the 'Wideload' logo of off lorries across the back!

Maybe it's more to do with the type of show it appears to be rather then the skit itself. It appears to be a sort of SNL style show and I've never really liked that style. Don't know why though.

Or maybe I'm just too protective. Who fans have had a hard time in the past with countless jokes at their expense. Maybe I've just had enough of it, not that I personally have had much.

I don't really know what else to say except that we will just have to differ. I'd be interested to see what happens if they (or someone) does a Firefly spoof. I believe there's 'Mosquito' but I never got around to watching that.

And seeing as you like Dwarf and The Office I would recommend Spaced. Very British but some brilliant film moments: Close Encounters, Robocop and Empire Strikes back to name three.

Perhaps the Whovians and the Firefly fans should unite to become:

The Brown Anoraks!

Yeah, but how nerdy can you get with only 14 episodes - Dr Who is now on season 30!

But it did come back 15 years after being cancelled and despite a failed movie (OK - TV movie).
