The original Enterprise never looked so pretty.

I've seen almost all of season two remastered now (The new FX are astounding), and most of it with my son, who's nine.
He said to me, "Dad, this show is even better than the Next Generation, why didn't they spend more money on the original effects?"

Yeah, as such "improvements" go, the re-touching actually IS an improvement...hardly sacrilegious at all! Of special note so far to me has been the techno-whatever displayed above Norman's navel ("I, Mudd") and the title entity of "The Doomsday Machine" (and the weird thing is that I kinda sorta prefer the old DdM...)

It was like a whole new original Star Trek when we got here!

Did you buy the DVDs or iTunes or other? I have only seen a few eps on iTunes/iPhone - agree with ya, great "print" as they say, luscious even.

Yeah, unlike the first season HD/DVD hybrid set, the second plain DVD season was much more reasonable...wow, watchin' 'em over twice now & stll groovin' to the seamlessness of the new FX! The blue glow on the hull during some of the phaser fire shots is luciousness itself!
And of course, the untouched live action that I always loved...

This truly kicks Romulan patootie.

(I just broke my toy phaser & communictor out of storage- truly Trekkie heaven)

All of the pictures are blocked out at work, so I will come back here tonight and look at them when I get home.

Those are pretty pretty.

I took my son (8 at the time) to see the remastered episode "The Cage" on the big screen, no less. Beautiful. Unfortunately, my son was thoroughly disturbed by Captain Pike in the wheelchair and we had to leave.

I still haven't seen the pictures posted, but I remember as a little boy in the 1970s thinking the Enterprise was such a cool looking ship, but now I think back on it and after seeing the series Enterprise I wonder how would they explain a sleek looking ship like Captain Archer's Enterprise and then reqressing to that of the NCC1701? I have not yet seen the episodes where the later model ships appear so if the answer is there please don't tell me.

Archer's Enterprise was tiny. Barely bigger than the 1701's saucer section, and little more than a spacegoing submarine --more akin to the Defiant-class, actually.

Also, don't underestimate the importance of style --form may follow function, but Starfleet has always been careful to design their ships for an aesthetic goal as well as a purely functional one (they want their ships to be readily identifiable to any other races).

Those are some pretty pictures, but to compare them to those of Next Gen which was in the 1980s is unfair because these are enhanced with 21st century technology.

Well, you CAN compare them to the movies which had much bigger FX budgets & CGI for the later ones.

Not tryin' to top that , but I got to see the freshly-found and newly-restored print of The Cage , soon after the original ST:TMP was issued , on the big screen , and a guy named Gene Roddenberry exhibited the film for us after an unforgettable talk...

You're right , Pike in the robotic wheelchair thingy still gives the boo-boo-jeebies...Always did...

The whole episode was morbid and creepifyin' , and the network originally criticized it for being " too cerebral ".

We got to see the Original Series blooper reel , too , which had all of us rolling in the aisles...

On the remastered enhanced TOS , I'm especially loving being able to look in the windows of NCC-1701 a bit , and seeing Matt Jefferies' vision of future flight with gloriously-coruscating warp nacelle domes...Makes it look like 'sciency' stuff goes on in there...

Saw 'The Galileo Seven' a couple times lately , and the spaceborne exteriors and tracking shots of the shuttle were FAB !

Great to know that a 40+ year-old show is still nicely warping young minds :

" Classic and addicting. I'm ten years old and this is my favorite telovision show! I think it is a great family show and
Spoc is so funny. He just stands there. A big huge dragon could be eating him and he is all,
' The tempature of the fire is 2398.6 degrees captin.' I love this show and the new one kinda sucks. Old one, classic. "
