OTHER SCIENCE FICTION SERIES

Since every gorram show & movie series is getting rebooted, why not reboot Raiders starring Nathon Fillion as Indy?

DEWRASTLER

As much as I like Nathan as an actor, no, it should not be done. But that's mainly b/c of my dislike of remakes. Hey, while were at it why not remake Star Wars, or The Terminator, or any other great movie. You know why not, b/c they are fine as is. But that's just my opinion.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

As much as I love Nathan Fillion, I'm with Dewrastler on this one.
Whilst I'm not completely against remakes - it is possible to improve on them (how about remaking the Star Wars prequels?) - I don't think you should mess with a classic like Raiders. It's practically perfect as it is (as is Last Crusade... the other two, maybe not)
Inevitably it may be remade, and if that was to ever happen, Nathan Fillion would be perfect... but personally I think it's too soon, give it another couple of decades at least.

Remaking adaptations of books that were less than stellar... remaking films that had shabby acting or dodgy effects, maybe. But I don't think Raiders qualifies in any category.

Hey, maybe that's why George Lucas continues to tinker with the original Star Wars, so that nobody can say the effects are dated and it needs to be remade

I'd LOVE to see Nathan as Indy. But how about original adventures? Nathan has freely admitted he looks to Harrison Ford's acting style for inspiration when doing action/adventure.

Unfortunately, the last movie seemed to "pass the hat" to Shia Le Beauf. *grumble*

I think it would be a horrible idea. Why? Two words.....George Lucas! Nathan has a series coming out and I'm hoping the best for him. Maybe the third time's the charm.

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

THESOMNAMBULIST

I like Nathan maybe more than I like Harrison, but he is just not Indiana Jones. Maybe have him be another 'Indyesque' style character but not Indiana.

...It's a little like having someone else be Rick Blane (Humphrey Bogart) in Casablanca.

Are you talking about it being remade / rebooted / reimagined / reinvented / revitalised / restarted / resurrected (or whatever) in movie form or as a TV show?

As a movie I think it would be pointless and couldn't further the story or character.
As a TV show I can see some potential. Kind of an older version of 'Young Indy'. You could have one off episodes, stories that ran for several episodes plus and over-arching season plot.

Although having said that I really hope that they don't do it.

As a side note anyone remember 'Bring Em Back Alive'? This was sort of an Indy wannabe series with Bruce Boxleitner.

Yes, Nathan (or, more specifically, Malcolm Reynolds) would be a perfect drop-in replacement for either Indiana Jones or Han Solo.

The two questions are:

(a) Why would you want to clone Raiders (other than large sums of cashy money, of course)? I think a good reboot should take a show somewhere new - do the equivalent of casting Daniel Craig as Bond or making Starbuck a girl*.

(b) Why would Nathan Fillion want a job as Harrison Ford's full-time body double (other than large sums of cashy money, of course)? He can do better than that. Mal was a far richer character than Han or Indy.

(* Now trying to erase the image of Daniel Craig wearing a fedora, holding a large bullwhip... and wearing a dress. Ugh - pass the brain cleaner please!)
