Likes to mess with stuffs.

Just posted something about a new series called 'Demons' over at SU.

While watching it, I kept thinking, this is almost like Buffy, but instead of the Chosen One, we have the heir to Van Helsing. There are many other references, which I'm sure were intentional.

Check it out if you get the chance and let me know what you think.

I saw it. It was ok but not brilliant. Maybe the more it progresses the better it'll get.

One thing I really hated was Phillip Glenister's accent. It was awful.

I'm watching this later having recorded it.

But one thing I really hate is when the media/promoters label it "the British answer to Buffy".
They did that with Hex and except for a young female blonde lead and the supernatural aspect of the show they were nothing alike. You might as well say that Most Haunted is the reality version of Buffy, or Veronica Mars is Buffy with the supernatural.

At least this one appears to have demon hunting in it. Guess I'll find out later today.

I think "ITV's answer to Torchwood" is more like it (...and judging by the preview, next week's looks like its lifted a plot directly from Torchwood).

Except in the case of Demons the set-up is pretty much the same as Buffy, with a few minor differences:

1. The slayer is a boy
2. Its set in England, but the English actor playing his mentor is pretending to be American.
3. Total lack of Wheedonesque humour.

First impression is that its not a patch on "Primeval". Which is a bad sign!

Hex was far, far better... as was "Ultraviolet" (the C4 mini-series, not the movie).

Criminally dull and unimaginative, combined with some dreadful choices in tone and performance. I'm always prepared to give shows a second shot, pilots and first episodes are tricky to get right but my expectations are very low.

It's only Britain's answer to Buffy if Buffy was posing the question "What's the most pedestrian version of my life that you can imagine?"

Very pedestrian, very by the book.
How many cliches can you get in one show?
And it was a bad accent. Did he need to be American?

I couldn't even consider watching Primeval from the few minutes I saw, although I understand it has it's fans.
I thought Hex could have been really good had they played it out differently. Christina Cole who played Cassie had the right idea and got out after the first season.

I will watch another couple of episodes to see if it improves but my hopes aren't high either.
