I know movies and books are different genres and art forms, but I still consider myself something of a book purist when approaching movie adaptations. I liked the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe movie rather well apart from a few elements, but the Prince Caspian movie was dreadfully Disney-fied.

My dislike of Fox has been growing daily for the last couple of months (related entirely to my discovery of Firefly finally and hating the injustice of cancellation), but didn't exist in its present form back when I learned Disney had dropped production of new Narnia movies and Fox had picked it up. At the time I was happy for the change.

Now to the main point: based on what Browncoats know about Fox, is there any hope for this third Narnia movie (Voyage of the Dawn Treader) being true to the spirit of Narnia as C.S. Lewis might have envisioned it? Does the touch of Fox manipulate and harm everything it comes into contact with? Should I be nervous about the adaptation treatment of my favorite of the Narnia books? Any Narnia fans here?

Loved Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Haven't seen the second, Prince Caspian, as it hasn't come out in fullscreen yet. I also have the three dvd set of The Chronicles of Narnia, from the BBC. The first disc is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The second is Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The third is The Silver Chair. Oddly, they list it as 4 feature length movies but the run time for each disc is the same, 168 minutes.

I was disappointed. Some nice visuals, but it didn't hold together on screen for me. Also, christians can annoy me a lot when they purloin fantasy elements. The white which is just the snow queen, almost unmodified from the original, copied and put into a christian mythos, to say nothing of the fawn, or the whole wardrobe concept. I can't share people's enthusiasm any more than the concept of easter mass. Yeah, love easter, don't think that jesus belongs there.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Twentieth Century Fox, the production company, is not the company that canceled Firefly. I don't know if that will mean they can do a book adaptation justice. I'm severely disappointed in almost every movie I see based on a book, it seems to be the way of things.

Doh, thanks for clarifying the difference. :) Same short name used and all, I got confused. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

I agree wholeheartedly.........

I liked the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe movie rather well apart from a few elements, but the Prince Caspian movie was dreadfully Disney-fied.

Actually, I loved the first movie. It kind of reminded me of some of the classic Grimms Fairy tales or some other classic movie from Hollywood's heyday.

I was excited to see the Prince Caspian movie, but when I saw the poster I became concerned. I said to myself, that looks like the homogenized and stupified Disney, rather than the classic Disney. I've never read the books, but the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe made me think about going out and buying the series.
