Another week, another Chrisisall list that you just can't help but reply to. How you doing my American buddy?

In your list I would pick:

V For Vendetta, Batman Begins, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk and Serenity of course.

But I would add:

Watchmen The Dark Knight Wall-E Juno The Bourne Trilogy The Descent Shaun Of The Dead Hot Fuzz Pan's Labyrinth

There are others I like but these stand out. Watchmen may drop from the list after repeated viewing but for now it's there.

Iron Man was a fun movie, but that's all, not one I would classify as a favorite. I also enjoyed both Hellboy films but didn't think they were substantial enough to list.

However, I had originally intended to fudge the facts a bit and list one other movie. It was released late in 2000, so technically not 21st Century, but I loved Memento.

Technically, the 21st century commenced Jan 1, 2001. At the time of Heysoos, the numbering systems did not include zero, so there was no year zero, the first year started with year 1. At the end of the first year, the start of the next year was year 2. At the start of the next decade, it was year 11. At the start of the next century, it was year 101. The first century was Jan 1, 1 until Dec 31, 100 (if the calendar had the same months/days). So the 20th century was Jan 1, 1901 until Dec 31, 2000.

But some folk conjure differently.

Other people have mentioned: V For Vendetta Batman Begins The Dark Knight Serenity Watchmen (probably, I've seen it twice now, and it was excellent, albeit slightly flawed, so for now, it shall stay here) Wall-E Shaun Of The Dead Hot Fuzz Pan's Labyrinth Cloverfield Children of Men

Other movies: Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix (leave me alone. If you're allowed to like Crystal Skull, I'm allowed to love Harry Potter! :P ) The Fountain 28 Days Later 28 Weeks Later The Orphanage The Prestige REC Saw (1) Love Actually Let the Right One In In Bruges

andddd I'll try to think of others. I'm sure there are more.

Haven't made a list yet, but In Bruges would definitely be on it. LOVE that movie - probably because I went into it with no expectations whatsoever.

Also, I'd add:

I had actually been looking forward to In Bruges for some time, and I absolutely loved it. Saw it once at a film festival, and then again about 4 months later when it was released in cinemas. Still need to get it on DVD and watch it again, simply hilarious.

I'm afraid I must disagree with you on Napoleon Dynamite though. I absolutely HATE that film. The main reason I hate it, is probably because everyone else loves it. And I don't mean that that is the reason I dislike it, I mean, in my opinion, it is a truly boring and unfunny film, and even kind of made me feel insulted that I should find this at all interesting. And everyone keeps going on about it. And wears shirts about it. And quotes it. etc. etc. So I didn't like it to begin with, but the fact that I keep on being reminded of it, has lead me to hate it.

Ah, see, I wish I'd switched it off half way through. But I just kept sitting there thinking "at some point..it must get funny...why else would everyone like it...any minute now...any minute now..." and I'd kept hearing about his 'dance' at the end, so I figured I should watch that.

His dance wasn't funny, and it never got funny. I have quite a few friends who love it, and they can call me a douchebag all they want, I'm never going to rewatch and/or enjoy that film.

I found it funny for some reason. I can't explain it, but it does have its own unique and endearing qualities that appeal to me. And I'm probably WAY over the age that normally likes the movie to begin with.

How good was it?!

I can't wait to see what Martin McDonough (the writer/director of In Bruges) does next.

and Chrisisall, you didn't like Xmen 2? Granted, I wouldn't say it was one of my favourites, but it was better than number 3.

Also, I'm unsure whether I already put it above, but after watching it again, I'd have to add Let The Right One In. Beautiful and brilliant Swedish (I'm fairly sure) vampire film. Of course, a Hollywood version is apparently already in the works from Cloverfield director Matt Reeves. Hopefully that will either get scrapped or Reeves will fight to get the version to be a very strict remake.

*Edit: I did put it above. Terrible memory.*

Ok to add more movies then, I'll say Hellboy 1 and 2. Probably 2 more than 1, but I thought both were fairly extraordinary.

But one of us is standing up for a well reviewed, respected and highly successful film. The other is standing up for a horribly reviewed flop that essentially killed off two seperate franchises.

...which is preceisely the point of a helmet....to reduce trauma. And the angle would have greatly reduced not only the force, but the ammount his head would have jerked - thus lessening the impact on the brain.

Have someone whack him directly in the noggin with something that delivers equal force directly to the forehead, without penetration obviously, and I'd wager his ass is taking a nap.

Have only watched X3 a couple times - I don't remeber the specific moment, so I can't say for sure. Would depend on the size, speed and angle of the shrapnel. Also, since he was actively fighting, as opposed to taking a sucker bullet (so to speak), I would say there are a number of circumstances that set the events apart.

It tagged him from nowhere, he didn't expect it (that was the gag), and he shrugged it off as he lit his ceegar.

Okay, we beat down this poor expired beast of burden...I'll just say that I really liked most of X-2.

I remember the cigar bit, but not the medal. Really, I felt that whole sequence was somewhat poorly done anyway, probably the lowpoint of the movie.

300

In my basement is a treadmill, a small workout bench, and an old crappy TV. If I play 300 on that TV while on the treadmill I NEVER fail to have a good workout. 300 is not a perfect film by any stretch but there is just something about it pulls every ounce of power out of my body.

That makes it special in a unique way.

Watchmen was impressive too. Zach Snyder is doing very well by me.

To ME, the lowpoint was killing off Scott Summers so meaninglessly, just because the actor had a need to be in *chortle* Superman Returns...
