Keep the Shiny side up

Anyone watching this? It's a follow-on to Life on Mars, with Keeley Hawes playing present-day DI Alex Drake, who's transported by a shooting back to 1981 to work with The Guv - Gene Hunt - and his band of detectives. Eight years from "Mars", its Audi Quattro instead of Capri, Glam rock, and heavy eye-shadow on the birds.

Alex knows about Sam Tyler's previous trip back to 1973, so she's convinced it's all in her head. She trys to ratonalize events as tricks her sub-conscious is playing on her, and has a habit of putting the other detective's names in little air-quotes, since they're just figments.

Runs Saturday night with a re-run of the previous week's episode at 8:00 EST and a new episode at 9:00.

Haven't seen anything but the pilot and I'm still trying to decide if I like it.. I think I'll watch another episode before I decide. It's a bit surreal.

When it was on in England, I didn't think it was as good as Life on Mars.
But I'm notoriously bad at following stuff on TV .. so was merely a casual viewer for both.

This is not my signature, I have to write this every time I post.
Smile && Nod, it makes it seem like you know what's going on.

Having just read in another thread how "Life on Mars (USA)" finishes its probably worth pointing out that "Ashes to Ashes" will make absolutely no sense whatsoever unless you've seen the original UK version of "Life On Mars" - the ending of which sets up "Ashes To Ashes" and is very, very different!

In any case, although Life on Mars (UK) was brilliant, "Ashes to Ashes" didn't really float my boat.

Ashes to Ashes picked up as it went along - the finale of the first series was as good as anything in Life on Mars. The second series starts in the UK later this month and you can see the trailer here:

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Is Keely Hawes the girl from MI-5? I think it was called "Spooks" in the UK, but in the States we get it as MI-5.

Loved that show. What happened to it? It's hard to find on TV here, and I kind of lost track after Matthew McFayden left. I didn't really take to his replacement very well, then it just kind of disappeared from Bravo's schedule.

I do see that PBS is running it late on Fridays now, but they're the older eps. Tonight's was the "Spiders" episode.

I've been DVRing Ashes to Ashes, but haven't really had time to watch.

And yes, I still need to track down the UK version of Life On Mars; I'm almost positive it will be better than the US version!

Just lying smiling in the dark,
Shooting stars around your heart,
Dreams come bouncing in your head
pure and simple every time.
Now you're crying in your sleep;
I wish you'd never learnt to weep.
Don't sell the dreams you should be keeping
pure and simple every time.
