According to UK newspaper 'The Daily Express', Gillian Anderson is reportedly lined up to star alongside the Doctor. (The Doctor in question being Matt Smith.)

STORYMARK

I wouldn't hold my breath. BS rumors about Doctor Who are a regular occurance in the British press.

Though from the sounds of the article, if it happens, it'd be a 1 or 2 episode thing, not a starring role.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

Note for citizens of the USA: the main differences between British tabloid newspapers and the stereotyped US supermarket tabloids (of the "Hamburger with image of Jesus' face stolen by Aliens disguised as Elvis" variety) are:

A. The British papers exhibit less imagination and creativity (although the guy who writes the headlines for The Sun is a true poet)
B. The US papers have a slightly larger vocabulary.

Its broadly plausible that Gillian Anderson would guest in Doctor Who (anyway - every SF star will eventually turn up in every SF show - its the law!) but seeing it reported in the Express probably makes it marginally less plausible.

The "quote from source" in the article is a classic of its type (try and point to the bit that says "yes, GA is going to appear in 'Who"). If the source had said "No, we have no plans to use Gillian Anderson" then the headline would have been "Dr Who Producers Snub X-Files Star!!!".
