Am I missing something ? I'm not seeing a thread started for this movie yet, and it's been out several days now. Well, I've seen the movie, and I'll TELL you what I think !!!

Select to view spoiler:

I liked it. A lot. It was darker and more violent than the other X Men movies, but I think, because of the nature of Wolverine,it had to be. Now, it wasn't perfect. There were some continuity and context issues I didn't care for. And even though I'm no aficionado on all things X Men, I did have some "issues" w/ the ending. Still, it was a well made movie. I had heard OF some less than stellar remarks. I think Rotten Tomatoes review was like 37% or some such. How or why, I've yet to take time to find out. But I'd give it a solid B-.

None of the X Men movies have really sucked, imo. No where near the Star Wars prequels, or so many of the Batman movies. I have to imagine some true 'die hard' fans will find a few things to flame about, so have at it.

I haven't seen it but if your review is that none of the X-men movies have sucked then we're just not seeing eye to eye. Did you see the third movie? It was a giant suckfest. It's like the writers had a challenge to find a way to make the next scene suck harder then the one before it. It was like exponential suck growth. Honestly I tried to rewatch it on cable just recently and I can't even have it on while I'm doing other things. It just sucks so much. OK I think I'm better now.

Though it is X3 that is preventing me from spending any money on Wolverine. I won't even bother finding that leaked copy on the internet. They need to do a full reboot to get me back in a theater for X-men.

Some things I saw:

Select to view spoiler:

I loved the opening montage. I was back in Jr High reading books and drawing my own action scenes when I last had that feeling. Nostalgia at its best. The camera view of Logan and Wade riding into New Orleans was awesome. Kinda disappointed in the story of course. I mean, kinda the norm in comic flicks anymore.

What pissed me off about X3 was they killed off half the cast. Kelsey Grammar was great as Dr Hank. Wolverine has been getting good reviews, I'll check it out when the theaters ar'nt so crowded.

I can't tell you how'd you would or wouldn't like this movie, but I agree , in principle, w/ your take on X3. Not good. But I think this is far better than X3, though I can't say how 'true' to the canon of X Men it holds. I do have some probs w/ how the movie ended, and I'm not talking about just the final scene, after the credits.

All in all, the movie wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good either. Personally, I felt the movie was a little rushed. They tried to get him to the point where he got the adamantium too fast. I thought that would be near the end and it would be involved in his losing his memory. And that leads to my second point. The whole way he lost his memory was kind of lame.

The Deadpool thing was cool though.

Select to view spoiler:

I know they gave him so many more powers than he actually had, but they used the same process in which he got the regenative powers in the comics, so I'm cool with that. I was also glad to see that Sabretooth wasn't the main villain. After all the trailers where it seemed like that was the case, I was glad to see the final fight with Deadpool

I think this is another case of being better off not being familiar with the source material. Makes it a lot easier to enjoy this as an action film. While not an expert on Wolverine per se, I do know a few things about his back story. What I do know is that there are some huge continuity issues. I have yet to figure out why screen writers and studio execs feel the need to blatantly disregard existing mythology when it comes to comic book characters. Setting that aside it is still a pretty entertaining movie.

Hugh Jackman puts in another solid performance as the title character.

I like this Sabertooth better than the one from the first X movie. While the actor in the first film looks more the part this version brought a whole new level of bad assery.

Wraith was a cool character. Really enjoyed his fight with Sabertooth.

Gambit was a waste of screen time. I know fans love him but he didn't belong in this movie.

I prefer the old Stryker to this newer version. This guy did not strike me as being intimidating or fanatical.

And then there's Deadpool. Why oh why did they have to fuck him so badly? Ryan Reynolds did such a great job as Wade in the beginning, then they bent him over sans lube at the end. I read a review referring to him as "Barakapool". That would be funny if it weren't so sadly accurate. How can he be "the merc with a mouth" without his mouth? Just retarded.

Aside from the above gripes I did enjoy the film. Good story, great action sequences, decent FX, and most of the actors played their parts well. Defintely better than X3 but nowhere near the first 2.

There are some continuity issues I have w/ the movie. Dunno why it's so hard for some to go back in the past so as to set up events later on,.... Joss does that quite well.

AU, I was wondering too. But I figured I would let someone else do wolfy. So here we go on Wolverine. First pretty good. I enjoyed with my big cherry coke and big popcorn. The teenagers behind me not so much. Kinda of predictable but still good. Wolverine is whipped like cream. Gotta stop romancing nut jobs. Col Stryker is portrayed as a right wing christian nut. Noticed the cross darken on his lapel in the hospital. But if was a rag head we have to be pc. I liked badger his brother better. But I didn't feel sorry for the nazis. And of course they were yankees cause rebs are bad. Alot of stereotypes on US soldiers. But still good. Wolverine needs to be alittle tougher.

I don't consider myself a big cherry cola fan, as the cherry tends to be too sweet for my likes. Generally, any 'flavored' coke is a bit much. However, I don't hate Coke's brand. Vanilla, is also darn good. Go figure.

I thought it was entirely mediocre myself, easily the worst of the X-Men films, but a decent enough action flick if you completely turn your brain off.

I think the script was pretty horrible, overall. Very little coherency, felt more like a list of studio notes assembled into a movie - one made by comittee. Too many plot holes and not-well-thought-out plot developments. The effects were pretty underwhelming, too.

And how is it that Cyclops is a teen in 1979 (the 3-Mile Island incident), yet is in his early 20's in the "near future" of the first X-Men, which came out in 2000? Horribly sloppy writing there.

Also, per young Wolvey....

Select to view spoiler:

Why is it that heroes who are darn near indestructible start out sick? Wolverine was sick, as well as his brother, just at the onset of him getting his powers. So, I'm watching the new Superman movie, and same thing with HIS little kid.... He's got asthma , but later on in the movie, he can toss a piano across the room.

I know, different writers, different 'verse, but it seems the same template is used in both. What's up w/ that ?

At least the bit with Wolvie comes from the comic, and served a purpose in the plot (in the Origin comic,

I just saw it today, and I wouldn't say it totally sucked, but it's pretty much on par with X3. They would probably both be ok-ish movies if X-men and X2 hadn't completely blown them out of the water with their total awesomeness. This new movie tried to do too much and stuff in too many cameos, forcing them to trivialize the strong brother storyline they started with. There were so many characters I ended up not caring about any of them.

I wasn't too offended by what they did to Deadpool only because I was sure the merc withOUT a mouth was only temporary. Here's hoping he loses a few of those extra powers. Ryan Reynolds was a perfect cast for the part and I could stand to see more of him.

However, I was totally pissed by what they did to Gambit. The Cajun accent is his signature and without it he's just a prettyboy with a deck of cards. I'm sure the actor could have pulled it off if they'd let him. I guess Fox just thought we couldn't handle it (typical Fox). Better to skip Gambit completely then mess him up. argh!

While I can't explain why young Wolvy was sickly I may have an explanation with regards to Supe's kid. A co-worker, who is fanatical about Superman, tells me that the pills the boy takes are made of the same elements as kryptonite. He says that if you look closely at the medicine, then compare it to the kryptonite plaque in the museum, that they are virtually identical. So this means Lois was intentionally dosing her son to keep his abilities from manifesting. It wasn't until he was kept away from his "medicine" that his power was unleased. Just in the nick of time of course.

Well, at least you recognize how thin and one-note the character is by nature.

Hey, hey! Careful there, I like Gambit! I think there is a lot of dimension to his character, but there was no context given here. A large part of what makes Gambit interesting is his relationship with Rogue and the mistrust others feel for him due to his thieving past. Well, and his sexy Cajun accent. They should have skipped Gambit rather than do it half-assed.

Wow, I have to say I'm a bit shocked...I thought it was awful.

It's 100 mins of watching Hugh scream and then maneuver into position for one of the 1000 "money shot" images. I disliked what they did to Deadpool (who was a cool enough character in his own right...why did they need to make him crazy-knife-arm guy? Just make a new damned enemy...you don't ALways have to use a name from the comics). The action was decent, but Hugh's strength (and what makes him so good in the fairly weak X2 and X3) is ACTING...not screaming and riding motorcycles...

OH and the motorcycle thing just pissed me off. A barn, on a working farm, with virtually NOTHING in it but this SHINY MOTORCYCLE...just way too obvious for my tastes.

also, the adamantium bullet wiping memory...ok I can buy that, but the bad guys KNOWING it's going to wipe memory beforehand? How?

All in all I thought it was an incredibly weak film...by far the worst thing I've ever seen Jackman do. I'd say even the 3 X-Men films, with all their warts, were better.

Nope.

The only Marvel properties Sony controls are Spider-Man and Ghost Rider.

FOX controls X-Men and Wolverine, Fantastic 4, Daredevil and Elektra.
