Sources confirm that not only has FOX officially passed on renewing Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, it’s even dead as far as Warner Brothers is concerned and they are no longer shopping it to other networks.

While this is hardly a surprise and some web sites have been reporting this cancellation for literally months now, given FOX’s surprise (to us and pretty much everyone but Joss Whedon’s Biggest Fan) renewal of Dollhouse on Friday, some might have still been hopeful.

I’m sure the fandoms will be in a tizzy over this, especially with the Dollhouse renewal, but it is what it is. By the way, the notion from some of the fans that we were ever out to get TSCC or Dollhouse, or any other show (OK, Bill might have it in for CW’s Privileged, but that’s another story) was always ludicrous. We thought it would be canceled, and it was, but we thought Dollhouse would be canceled and it wasn’t. And we’re not at all unhappy Dollhouse will be back. Confused perhaps, but not unhappy. We’d have been thrilled if TSCC pulled off the miracle too. But it didn’t.

I didn't get beyond the pilot for Dollhouse but I have it backed up for a rainy day and having heard that it does get better I will probably watch it later. So yay for Joss for getting picked up.

But I really enjoyed TSCC. I thought it was a great show even with it's early flaws. If it was a choice for me then there would be no contest. TSCC should have come back, even if it meant Dollhouse didn't.
I kind of suspected as much when I heard about Dollhouse on Friday. I thought there was no way that they would bring back two shows from the brink of death that both fit the scifi theme. They'll probably pair Dollhouse with what they consider to be a strong contender in the hope that it's ratings will improve. But then again it is a tv network....

At least Summer has made a big enough mark that finding another show shouldn't be too difficult. Maybe a straight non-scifi drama (not a teen one though).
And hopefully we can get to see the ballerina project from Joss a little sooner now that she's free.

Hmm, I'd heard they were going to keep TSCC... Oh well, the reason why they canceled it was that having to pay for the rights for the Terminator franchise was cutting into the profits margin.

That's too bad. But, hey, maybe Summer Glau can get a gig on Dollhouse?

Or, better still, get her a guesting (or recurring?) gig on Castle!

Honestly, I can't say I'll miss TSCC at all, but I was supporting it coming back, just in support of those who loved it - and many of them paid back that support by supporting Dollhouse and Chuck. We're all in this together, far as I can see. More sci-fi on TV is a good thing, and more BETTER sci-fi is better still. But at any cost, we need to hold off the forces of "reality" TV.

I'd really hoped that if Terminator didn't make it on Fox, it would at least find a home on Sci-Fi, HDNet, or UniversalHD - or SOMEWHERE!

But it didn't. :(

I think Summer will be fine, though. She finds work, and I'd like to see her branch out a bit. No more "damaged" characters, no robots, just let her be a girl for a bit.

I'm curious what Summer's new mystery role will be. She had spoke earlier about a part she was really excited about, but would only take if she had the time if T:SCC got canceled. Now that we know it's not coming back, I'm wondering when she'll speak up about the new role.

The explanation I read about why Terminator died and Dollhouse lived is that Dollhouse is produced by 20th Century Fox TV, which is owned by News Corporation, which also owns the Fox broadcast network. Meanwhile "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" succumbed to a chronic condition of being produced at Warner Bros.
The blog to read for the detailed explanation is: Fox Execs Keep Playing With 'Dollhouse'

I'm sure the licensing fees to WB helped in the decision... but let's be real, the ratings on the show were terrible, and had been falling consistantly since the second season started. It was simply not popular enough to maintain.

Ok, I knew it was coming but still it hurts. Definitely not as much as realizing that Firefly would not be back, but…just damn.
For those of you who thought that the Sarah Connor Chronicles was about a whiney teenager and his bitchy mom, just watch the last 6-7 episodes of the series. It was the best SF work I’ve seen on TV since Firefly. And yes Summer was perfect, but so was Thomas Dekker. The scene where he confronted Jessie was riveting. Me thinks we will hear more from him.
Since the “impossible” has already been done, I have no real hope. But if Terminator Salvation can go over $250M domestic gross, you would think some network may want to give this series another shot. Since there is a good shot that Terminator Salvation will do $250M+ domestic, my guess is that the two storylines just don’t mesh well.
I would have sacrificed Dollhouse for Sarah, but after the last 2 episodes, I’m glad it’s back. Alan saved the show. The hunt for Alpha should be a thrill. Much better than waiting for Sylar to pop out of Nathan.

Not to say Dollhouse is perfect, but I think Terminator had a major flaw right out of the gates in being that it was called the Sarah Connor Chronicles and therefore the writers felt a need to focus on Sarah (such as midseason with the odd '3 dots' story line. The creator came out and said that they're goal was to focus more on Sarah with those episodes).

The character of Sarah Connor already had on of the greatest transformations between T1 and T2. If this show had taken place between those two movies, then go right ahead and focus on her. But between T2 and T3 we needed to see John become a leader and Sarah be the woman from T2 that you wouldn't want to mess with. That's why, IMHO, the last few episodes were so great because they focused more on John, who was the most interesting character at that point of the Terminator timeline.

All i have have to say is, any sci-fi show that's half good on FOX, get's cancelled, look at DARK ANGEL, and FIREFLY, and now TSCC. If it cut's into there "reality" or 'comedy" shows like, Lost, COPS,SIMPSONS, or anyother, they cancell it, this is a vicious cycle, and any and all sci-fi show's are not safe, including DOLLHOUSE, hate to say it, but FOX is killing off any good shows, look how close DOLLHOUSE came this season, IT'S NOT FRACKING FAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But on a lighter side, i read on fan fiction.net, a TSCC story where Cameron and the Connor's make FOX exec. pick up show, for a laugh, but you'll have to look for it, forgot it's name.

Mediocre! Mediocre!? How the hell do you extrapelate that course, it was not Mediocre, TSCC was the best thing FOX had, and because it took viewers away from there other "Reality", hah! relity my arse!, shows they decided to kill it off. TSCC was saving FOX, just like FIREFLY, and DARK ANGEL, and how do they repay it, KILL IT FRAKING OFF! It was not Mediocre by a long shot, it was quite possibly the best friday night show, is that, Mediocre, NO!

Not everyone thinks it was great. For me, TSCC was hit and miss. A few really really brilliant moments scattered throughout pedestrian writing.

I can't compare that to Dark Angel or Firefly, both of which were consistently brilliant throughout most of the first season. (Dark Angel sorta lost its footing in the second season, but regained it at the end.)

The thing about TSCC, is it showed character development, you had to watch every moment, every movement, every sing little detail to understand whats going on. That is what i like in a job, i like to whatch the characters grow, change, and morph, that is one thing i liked about DA, and about FF, you had to watch it, every little bit, another reason why i liked Star Trek Voyager.

I think that is why TSCC got canned, studio execs obviously don't think we viewers can think, probably because they cant!

Also a lot of bitching from the movie fans didn't help either.
Having seen Terminator Salvation might clear up what idiots were calling "plot inconsistencies" between the movies and TSCC.
The whole point of the 3 movies AND TSCC, is every time they try and influence the future, it changes in an unpredictable way.
A Butterfly Effect if you will.

One other thing, it is perfectly okay to hate FOX for canceling TSCC. Trust me, you have a lot of sympathy on that score from everyone here.

But it is totally different when you seemingly ignore important facts. You claim "TSCC was saving FOX." I'm not sure how you can claim that when the ratings were so low. True, they were higher on Mondays, but they dropped when it was moved to Friday and it continued to drop. There is no way to know how it would have done if they had kept it on Mondays, since it already had a lot of stiff competition - Chuck, The Big Bang Theory, House, Dancing with the Stars, Gossip Girl.

As much as I miss Firefly, I understand why FOX didn't think 4 million viewers was enough for a show that cost more than $2 million per episode. And TSCC's ratings were even lower than that.

Extrapolated to a grading curve, that's 77 out of 100 - a solid C. In other words, very average. Mediocre.

You like it. I get that. You're allowed to. In your opinion, it's great TV. In my opinion, it's mediocre. But hey, according to viewers and ratings, we're both screwed, because American "Idle" is apparently the best thing ever.

Depending on your point of view:))))

Mediocre is for me something like 40-60 from 100 :))

77 is above average and TSCC was above average.

If i remind myself SyFy Knights of Bloodsteel or tons of other shows....i will rate TSCC even better.

I'm not sure exactly how I would rate TSCC, but I don't think it was mediocre either. A bit rambling at times, perhaps misdirected at others, but overall I thought it was better than Dollhouse. The main reason Joss got the pickup over Josh (Friedman) was that Dollhouse is produced by 20th Century FOX, a sister company to the network, while TSCC was produced by Warner Brothers.

20th was able to offer more financial concessions than Warners was able or willing to do. If the production companies had been reversed I bet it would be Season 3 of TSCC we would be looking forward to in the fall.

Mentioning Warner Bros., how the hell can FOX turn them down for that! I mean look the WB has produced great shows like, SUPERNATURAL, if FOX can't be with a company that makes that good a show, they don't deserve to be on, The CW (WB) has had it on since it's inception, and it stars a DA, alumn. Jensen Ackles, "Alec' in DA. And gy the way, aanyone who says TSCC sucks, is a Grey, a human traitor, a human working for skynet, they want skynet to win, and they hate John C., John H., Sarah C., and Cameron.

Thomas Dekker vs Summer Glau – The Dollhouse fight which never happened.
Submitted by Kevin.Beaumont on September 30, 2009 – 12:05 pmOne Comment

This just in from Future Publishing – during an interview for DVD Magazine, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star Thomas Dekker ...declares Dollhouse “a piece of shit“.

http://www.endofshow.com/2009/09/30/thomas-dekker-vs-summer-glau-the-d

/

Dollhouse stars – from late October – his former Terminator co-star Summer Glau, who is joining Dollhouse as another geektastic character fans will fall in love with.

Now, in order to settle this war of words, we thought we would not invite Eliza Dushku to judge a word fight which never happened.

Hey kids and parents of kids and super-old, like ancestor-old-but-not-dead-yet-type people, just poking my oversized head in to say that the rumors are true... unless something very odd happens in the next few months, I will have the privilege of shooting an episode of GLEE. Why GLEE? Because I love cops, serial killers and gritty urban drama (I haven't seen the show yet). Why me? Because they're struggling and can't afford real directors. And to head off a few queries:

No, this doesn't mean Dollhouse definitely won't get a back nine. Our numbers mean that! But I kid. Okay, we're not exactly saving all the good stuff for 14-22, but nobody's closed the door. If D'House suddenly busts wide, huzzah, we'll still bring it, and I'll still go and direct an episode of Glee, because of my love of cops. These realities can co-exist. And possibly cross over, at least in fiction that I have wri - read. About.

What can we expect from a 'Joss Whedon' epsiode of Glee? An episode of Glee. God willin' and the crik don't rise, a good one. A television director's job is, on some level, to be anonymous; to find the most compelling way to present a story without calling attention to himself. I had a wonderful time doing just that on The Office, and hope to again. A guest director can bring a huge amount to the party (we've had CRAZY talent on Dollhouse), but the party isn't his. I just want to work with good people on a show that I like enough to have watched every episode several times. (I lied: I HAVE watched the show. And seriously, when do the cops show up?)

Whom will I kill? When will that go away? Is death really the only thing I'm known for? I'd hope not. You know how many people in the world actually die? ALL OF THEM. You know how many I've killed? Statistically, somewhat fewer. Can't we focus on another element of my work? Having said that, probably Principal Figgins. (No! I kid! God.)

Anyway, I hope that clears things up. I'm going to do my best, and more importantly, I'm going to do my best not to gush like a fanboy for eight straight days on set. Don't worry. I practiced with Bamber. I'm a pro.

Happy Monday. Especially for me. -j.

Terminator Almost Sold!

The rights to the franchise have changed hands many times and were sold to Halcyon for $25m two years ago by Mario Kassar, who produced Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

But Halcyon is struggling financially and recently applied for bankruptcy protection from Pacificor, a California-based hedge fund that lent it the funds to buy the Terminator rights.

All the big film studios have registered interest in the rights, with Sony Pictures reported to be a leading contender.

Summit Entertainment, the company behind the Twilight series, is tracking the sale, as is Media Rights Capital, which produced Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno.

The Terminator auction comes three weeks after the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were sold for $60m.

The Terminator franchise is expected to fetch as much as three times that.

Referring to the Turtles sale, Kevin Shultz, senior managing director at FTI which was appointed by Halcyon in the wake of its protection application, said of the Terminator auction: "We have a property that has made three times the box office takings."

The Terminator series was launched in 1984 and portrayed the efforts of lethal cyborgs sent from the future to kill young tearaway John Connor.

BTW, the auction is for the rights to make future installments, and does not include any previous ones - so whoever buys it wont get the TSCC rights....

You know Glee is on Fox too, right?

Not me - I *LIKE* Glee. :)

But hey, Dollhouse is a goner now, so that should make you feel SOME better, yeah?

BTW, I must be moving up in the world. I'm an "archnemesis" now. Heck, yesterday I don't even think I was considered a NEMESIS by anyone around here. It's almost enough to make my coal-black heart grow three sizes!

Mike

Let the wild rumpus start!

So... wait, how's that now? By pointing out a fact, or do Fox executives have the magical ability to alter the ratings.

Face it, your show failed for low ratings. It sucks, but it's what happened.

The rights are now up for sale, and the showrunner from TSCC is now doing a Charlie's Angels TV show. It's dead, Jim.
