There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I think that's Christina Cox you're thinking about, not Courtney.

I only watched the first hour, and I'm not sure I want to watch the second and any subsequent episodes they air. The only thing I liked about it was the sets and the CGI. The story and acting did nothing for me.

I've got a sinking feeling that show's ratings aren't going to defy gravity for long at all. They're going to go nose down, throttles to the firewall, and let's auger this baby in.

It wasn't that great but the lowest numbers of any debut for the summer?

I think that must have been a lack of promotions.

Does anybody know if they ordered a whole season? Or is this gonna be it?

I've enjoyed Christina Cox roles ever since her turns in the Premiere episode of Due South, and again in the Season 2 Premiere Episode.

Yep, exactly my thoughts.

Defying Gravity is based on a BBC docudrama from 2004.
Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets (2004) (TV)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0395417/
Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets - Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Odyssey:_Voyage_To_The_Planets

It's available on DVD in the US under the title Voyage to the Planets and Beyond
http://www.amazon.com/Voyage-Planets-Beyond-David-Suchet/dp/B0007Z0O04

You can watch it on YouTube in two ways:
(For some reason, posting a link to a YouTube Playlist just gives you a big wide blank area!)

With the original narration by David "Poirot" Suchet:

And the "American-ized" version, re-edited and with a different narrator:

The Antares in Defying Gravity is almost exactly the same design as the Pegasus in Voyage to the Planets, except with the engines at the opposite end, a second centrifuge section, and no solar arrays.

YouTube - Voyage to the planets: Building Pegasus 1

YouTube - Voyage to the planets: Building Pegasus 2

I liked that they tipped their hat to the original with this line right after launch...
"First step on Antares' voyage to the planets!"

(FYI: Stephen McNutt, the cinematographer for Virtuality and BSG, also did this show.)

So many cool little details I liked that are hard to describe, but the easiest one is how the hatches slide out and away on tracks shaped exactly like the ones on the ISS!

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

I thought I read it was a show, I saw a few promo's for it, but not that many. I knew about it because a friend of mine has a small role in it, Troy also had small reoccuring role in BSG. He told us (76th Battalion) about it months ago. We did see him in it, too cool seeing somebody you know on the TV.

Note:
I went to our board, its a show and Troy filmed it in March,...I hope the ratings get better.

I watched this show last night and it was slow. I mean the biggest event was this woman vomiting every fifteen minutes. That certainly held my interest.

13 episodes have been shot. It's a co-production with CTV, BBC, and ProSieben in Germany, so it'll be interesting to see what happens WRT ratings and cancellation.

Might help to have seen the first two episodes.

I mean, suppose somebody wrote a review of Firefly, having only seen the third episode?

I like the third episode (the one after the two house pilot). It's pretty interesting that they mutated and had the same DNA satellites. That got me watching the fourth episode. The pilot's very annoying with all the destiny/fate crap and I was relieved it wasn't continued in the later episodes.

After this episode I like the show more. It is interesting, its just trying to build the world of the characters and the future. I will give it the season for sure. Also as a tech nerd I want one their phones.

SINGATE

I have to wonder at what the plan is with regards to visiting each planet. Is is supposed to be a quick flyby or will they actually have ground based operations?(Having seen the last episode I know they will land on Venus.) If it is the latter then they shouldn't be hitting more than one planet per season. The Joss quote about not promising 7 seasons suddenly springs to mind. Not that I don't like this show but that would be pretty damn presumptuous.

I don't think spending a whole season just visiting one planet would be overkill. Plus the drama is on the ship itself, Beta, as they call it. I think they'll just do a quick survey of Venus maybe get some soil samples. In and out. Venus would be too hot for them to stay for very long.

Well, if they're following Voyage to the Planets' lead, the suit can only withstand 1 hour's exposure to the pressure on Venus, and the lander's good for 2 hours so, as the Science Director says, "you have to treat it like a bank job: you get in, do your experiments as fast as you can, and you get out."

I hope DG does the "imploding cameras" bit. I rather liked that!

FELIXDACAT

Defying Gravity has got something.
So I was working out in the gym listening to my MP3 player. Ron Livingston was a guest on the Adam Corolla podcast. He mentioned Defying Gravity so I made a mental note to check it out. But I didn’t realize it was actually already being broadcast till episode 7. By then, Hulu no longer had the first two episodes. But now I have seen episodes 3-8.
First of all, I hate, hate, hate the Gray’s Anatomy like narrations at the end of each episode.
On a Firefly scale I would give the series a 6. And the back and forth between the present and “Five years earlier” is not a good construct.
But…
There is an interesting plot, some great tension, and decent social dynamics. In episode 9, I guess we learn more about whatever “beta” is in pod 4. But if it’s true about what other people have mentioned about the ratings, I think we have only 4 more episodes after that. Oh well, another interesting show gone. At least I have Fringe, plus hoping that Dollhouse can keep up the momentum from its last 4 shows.
