Just discovered that this had been added to Hulu...

I'd only caught the first half of the pilot when it was on, and somehow got sidetracked from watching more of the series.
Boy, do I love Hulu!!!

I think I have a new favorite cancelled-too-soon DVD set to buy!

What say y'all?

Oh, and by the way: Adam was in it.

Yes, it was very well done. Reminded me a little of Boomtown (another cancelled gem.)

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Day Break got a bum break. ABC couldn't see fit to commit to a schedule for twelve weeks, and took it off the air after just three if I recall.

I liked it a lot. Watched the rest of it online and bought the dvd as soon as it was released too. I've watched it three times complete so far.

I saw an episode from this. I remember Adam being on it. Groundhog day with Bill Murray. With a very serious plot. I think it went off the air after I saw that episode. I never saw it again.

I really liked Day Break when it was on tv. It had Adam Baldwin and Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi)! And a lot of episodes were directed by Rob Bowman (The X-Files, Castle)! All around good show.

I must have stopped watching because of the long hiatus after ep 6. Dec. 13 to Jan. 29 is a big chunk of time; I just assumed(makes an ass out of Umed) it was already canceled. Maybe if they'd advertized more. Bastards.

I'm currently up to ep #8 of Day Break on Hulu (minus ep #2, since for some reason Hulu doesn't have it). *I've been stretching the show out over a couple days at a time just build suspense(hell, there's only 13 eps).

I'll have the DVD in 7 to 10 days.

Now, if only the PTB would PUT JOHN DOE ON DVD!!!

They're counting the 2-hour pilot as episodes 1 & 2, so you're fine.

Did you find the original 4-disc set, or is it gonna be the new 2-disc one?
If it's the latter, let me know how the image quality is!

Just finished "Day Break" on Hulu. Great show. I like that they actually ended the show. No loose threads, no cliffhangers, just completed it. And seeing the "crazy" guy at the end, almost a tear in my eye.(Just allergies...) I could totally enjoy having the DVD.

But....

Proof that even someone who knows all the Wizard Rules is never safe from violating them... every once in a while.

*smacks forehead*

I attempted to order "Day Break" on 8/28, through the website of the Great Evil (Walmart- I use it so I don't have to use a credit card). It was for a "preorder" (available 9/1), even though Amazon already had it in stock, but, goramnit, Walmart was selling it for only $7!(I'm cheep and unemployed... mostly unemployed) Anyways, I checked my account and the order is still processing. What?! So, I checked to see if the DVD is available. It's OUT OF STOCK!

Either Walmart had it in stock, but ran out and are waiting for a new batch; or they never had it and are still waiting for the first batch; or ("you're having too many or's, pick one.") they were never planning on selling it, only to tease me take my money (bastards). I'll give 'em 3 more business days before I demand a refund.

I wish I knew.("if wishing were horses we'd all be eaten steak", it's like throwing salt over your shoulder; cancels wishes) I would prefer 4 Discs, 'cause I don't like messing with 2 sided kind.

I've sent emails to everybody I can think of (people at TVShowsOnDVD.com & VideoETA.com), to see if they can find out what the compression is gonna be like on the new set, since a lot of folks on the Net are wondering, but to tell you the truth, I hadn't even thought about double-sided discs.
Been a while since I've seen one of those, but if that were the case, compression won't be an issue.
Amazon doesn't say what type of discs they are on their pre-order page...

(BTW, nice Cordelia quotage on the "too many or's"! I was just watching that episode on Hulu the other day! )

WTF?! Amazon's selling the 4-disc set for over $90!!! Meanwhile, the 2-disc version (preorder) is only about $11.

My Lone Gunmen DVDs are double-sided. They're okay, but 2 sides means double the chance for nicks, scratches, and smudges; so ya gotta be extra careful.

Well, I finally got the 2-disc version. For only $5. Hmmm. My thoughts on stuff....

The box looks like it could hold four discs, but when you open it up, the discs are in black paper sleeves (apparently the makers couldn't afford even the flaps for the sleeves).

And the discs themselves are NOT double sided. Bad sign. How do they fit 7 episodes (plus commentaries) on one disc? They compress stuff, that's how. The picture quality is ok. It's not HD (what it's supposed to be), but it's not bad either (though IIRC for the sound was outta synch a little bit in Ep 5 or 6).

My biggest problem is with the sound. It all sounds like it's coming from the same spot, as in, no surround sound (Hell, I don't think there's stereo sound!). All of the sounds, such as background noises, voices, foreground sounds (running water, foot steps, fiddling with objects), sound fx, and music are at the same volume. Actually, most of the time, the music is LOUDER than anything else. Tends to drown out voices and the like.

Oh well, I guess I get what I pay for. And it was only 5$. But ABC would have saved a lot of plastic and heartache from customers, if they just stayed with the 4-disc version.

Well, I'd given up even looking for it in stores (I don't use credit cards, so I can't order things online). Everywhere I went, Best Buy, Target, etc., they'd just shrug and say they'd never heard of it.
There's a guy at my SciFi club that sells videos off a table at our weekly meetings, and I'd asked him to keep an eye out for it, but that was months ago.
Last Thursday, he tells me "Well, I found Day Break." "Really? Where?" "Believe it or not, Target." "How much do you want for it?" "Six."
I thought it was a great deal, 'cause the MSRP was $14.98.
Then I went to post to my IMDb thread, and found out that everybody else was getting it for five bucks! (Dunno if I'm gonna mention that when I see him tomorrow night.)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0801425/board/nest/146132575

Yeah, those black paper sleeves are weird, and my greatest fear was confirmed when I saw the single sides.
http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/daybreakcomplete.php
I could definitely see pixelation around the opening credit titles, and aliasing on round objects and diagonals. But hey, it's the only version of the DVD I can get, right? And it only cost me 6 bucks, so...

Went to Amoeba in Hollywood last Sunday, and got a little grin when I saw a single copy of Day Break in the TV bins: "Hey great! They got it in, too! Hmmm... Gee, $24.99 is awful steep for two discs... Wait a sec, it can't be... Could it? Ohmyghod... IT IS! It's the 4-disc set!!!" (My first clue should've been that the 2-disc set isn't labeled on top.)
I bounded down the stairs to the cash register, and just about floated the whole way home!

Definitely worth the extra money! The image is perfect, and the sound has excellent directionality.
So now I have a nice DVD copy for my own viewing and a cheap one for converting friends!

I've only ever been able to have one set of the Firefly DVDs at a time, 'cos twenty bucks is more than I want to spend on some'n that's gonna get thrashed by careless people.
If there was a 2-disc set that I could get for 5 bucks...

So, I gave a copy of the DVD to a friend (who loves shows like LOST & 24) for Christmas.
She sent me an email a few days later saying she'd blown through the entire set in 3 days (!), and that she didn't know whether to hug me or punch me.
I saw her last night, and her only comment was, "So, he's hiding in the broom closet listening to those guys, and his cell phone rings! What, he can't remember to turn his cell phone off? How lame!"

...Rived! It's arrived! The 4-disc version has arrived! (along with BG:TotSC)

My thoughts so far.

Packaging:
Verrry nice. It's like a mini Firefly box. The plastic DVD holders have a major character on front and back, and on the inside is a pic from a cool scene. Hell, the paperboard box even has pictures on the inside where you can barely see them! (I can make out a dump truck on one side) Now, that's dedication.

I'll review the rest later, after I've watched a few.
