The film hits so many perfect beats - IMHO one of the best sci-fi comedies out there. Of course, I love Red Dwarf too - so, funny is in the eye of the beholder.

I found a copy of the original script which was almost 30 pages longer and even the jokes they cut were enormously funny.

Your thoughts?

Even funnier after I attended DragonCon. Superb film, I must confess.

2 words -- "berrylium sphere". First time my wife and I heard that, we started slugging each other on the arm. The absolutely perfect Star Trek joke.

One of my faves. All of my GQ friends have been converted to browncoats. My fave Sigourney flik, fave Tim Allen flik, fave Tony Shaloub flik, and this was one of 3 films in release at the same time with Sam Rockwell in them - also Green Mile, and I think it was Midsummer's Night still in release. Jeremy Long has also prospered well since then, but nothing so far holds a candle. Jeremy and Alan Rickman have also both been in Die Hard fliks.

GQ followed the template set by The Man Who Knew Too Little (Bill Murray), another of my faves.

It's a great movie, one that I hold very dear to my heart. I love every second of this movie. I believe it captures all the absurdity and unlimited wonderment of sci-fi fandom.

GQ is one of the few movies I can watch over and over and still laugh at something new every time. So stuffed with inside jokes and perfect timing. Not minute of the film even slows. It's a genius comedy IMHO.

Check out a little movie starring Justin Long called "Accepted."
Also he was great in "Dodgeball."

wonderful movie, I just rewatched it the other day. There's so many great quotable lines in that movie, it's just awesome.

"It's a rock, it doesn't have any vulnerable spots!"

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."

Galaxy Quest and Midsummer Night's Dream were the first 2 films I noticed him in. Since, I back-tracked and have followed his career with interest. Haven't seen him in anything that wasn't good, and he's one of the actors who I'll go see whatever he's in on that basis alone.

I liked the room with the pistons going up and down. Sigourney Weaver complaining about the stupid design and Tim trying to get the counts right so they can get through it.

RiverIsMyGoddess & I watched it the night before D*C 2007 & 2008! It's one of my favourite's partly coz it captures the whole trekkie fandom thing so well, but because it actually has so many good actors in it! I adore Alan Rickman, & I think Sigourney Weaver & Sam Rockwell are amazing actors! It kind of lampoons the genre without completely taking the mickey! Big tick for me!

I love Galaxy Quest. The Trek references were great and the aliens were hilarious.

My favorite line:

"It turned inside out?"
*Pig monster explodes*
"And it exploded."

Big GQ fan here; bought the DVD. Don't do that unless it's something I KNOW I'm gonna wanna watch over and over--everything else I can rent.

Suggest "Evolution", too...I wish Duchovny had gone on to a career, I like him. Not the satire GQ was at all, but has its own giggles.

The delivery is epic.

My faves are:
"We're actors not astronauts"

And

"Let's get out of here before one of them kills Guy!"

I've discovered that there is no statement in the English language that can not be greatly improved by adding the phrase ". . . and then it exploded."

YES!! One of the best lines ever that's almost a "throw away" that no one notices. Love that line.

Great, great, movie. Like others, I can watch it over and over and laugh at the same parts again and again.

"Look around you see if you can make a rudimentary lathe."
"Get off the line, Guy!"

Sam Rockwell's delivery on every single line is a pleasure to watch. But, bar none, I think his funniest lines are in the shuttle going down to the alien planet. The whole dialog about what his last name is ending with him whimpering (very loudly), "Mommy! Mommy! MOMMY!" (Followed by Rickman's "Are we there yet?" Classic.) And then, "Don't open that! It's an alien planet! Is there AIR? You don't know!"

*********************************************

"It's okay! I'm a leaf on the wind!!!"
"What does that mean?!?!?!"

Other Rockwell gems :

Did you guys ever WATCH the show?

I'm just jazzed to be on the show, man. (after Rickman says What?)

The long, long SCREAM...AAHHHHH!!!...after he's transported and surrounded by Thermians

The red thingy is headed for the green thingy. I think we're the green thingy.

Hey guys, get a room.

Wait a minute...we're doing episode 81? Because I DIED in episode 81!

I'm not even supposed to be here. I'm just "Crewman Number Six." I'm expendable. I'm the guy in the episode who dies to prove how serious the situation is. I've gotta get outta here.

Oh yeah, what's my last name? You don't know. Nobody knows. Do you know why? Because my character isn't important enough for a last name, because I'm gonna die five minutes in.

And his grand swaggering entrance on the new TV Show opening...he winks as Security Chief Roc Ingersall is introduced.

Which is funny, of course, because he thinks he's safe from being killed off 5 minutes into the show. The same fate that awaited Tasha Yar on TNG

Speaking of Tasha Yar/Denise Crosby.....Why did she leave the show? Was it her decision? She did come back 3 times over the years, and those appearances were terrific.

It boggles me that you skipped "That's just not right" - nobody has ever delivered that line better anywhere.

In a kharmic way, it bothered me that Justin Long's parents who would rather the world die than have the trash wait 5 minutes never ended up getting whacked in some fashion.

Hey sorry, I didn't intend to cause any "boggling" here. I posted a few lines I knew from memory, and a few I copied over from IMDB.

Sir Alexander Dane: Could they be the miners?
Fred Kwan: Sure, they're like three years old.
Sir Alexander Dane: MINERS, not MINORS.
Fred Kwan: You lost me.

LOL. I've never considered Galaxy Quest a must-have movie. But maybe it's time I revised that consideration. It was, after all, hi-larious! :)

I've always thought GQ's stoner dialogue far surpassed anything produced by the stoner movie clique. I started rewatching Tony Shaloub performances after GQ.
