Doug Jones contracted to return as Silver Surfer, hopes for role in The Hobbit

Quote:

In a new interview with It's Just Movies, Jones revealed that he is still signed to reprise the Silver Surfer role.Fox has long been planning a spin-off on the cosmic character, whose real name is Norrin Radd, and recently announced a reboot of the Fantastic Four series, which will be penned by Michael Green.doug_jones.jpgJones (pictured) said: "There are still a couple of years left on their option for two more pictures with me, as a three-picture deal is quite standard when starting a franchise-potential character."But with all the reboot talk of the Fantastic Four, I have no idea where that leaves the Silver Surfer end of things. I would love to revisit this character. I do love Norrin Radd."

“There’s been lots of speculation. I wouldn’t want to ruin anything. Guillermo creates things with me in mind and he’s got a better image of what I can do than I do,” [...] “However, there might be an elf king, father of Legolas kind of character that I would love.”

He also addressed reports that he has been cast in Warner Bros superhero movie Green Lantern: "I did hear such a rumour a couple of months ago, but no one has called me regarding this one yet. But if there's a character I'm right for, I'd be quite interested to hear about it."

The Hobbit project needs to get moving, and fast. I understand PJ would want to get away and do some other things, and of course, iron out contractual issues w/ all those involved. But Ian McKellan isn't getting any younger, nor is Christopher Lee. From the sounds of it, both their characters ( Gandalf and Saruman ) are expected to figure greatly in the expanded version of The Hobbit / The White Council idea, which has been floated, in making two movies, not just the one.

The Hobbit is on track for shooting in the spring, which is when they've always said they would start. And PJ isn't directing it.

And yeah, the Surfer movie is toast. J. Michael Straczynski wrote a script, Alex Proyas was attached to direct, but when FF2 underperformed, it got axed. Now, with them rebooting FF, there's no way they'll make a follow up to the previous incarnation. If there is a Surfer movie, it'll be years away, and in a new form.

I knew Del Toro, and not PJ, was directing The Hobbit, but isn't PJ still involved ?

And what's this of rebooting Fantastic Four ? Is this like the 'remake' of Hulk ? 1st I've heard of that.

PJ is still producing, yes. But Spring '10 has always been the projected start date. They're right on schedule.

As for an FF reboot - this came out a few weeks ago, pretty much literally the day after the Disney/Marvel purchase was announced. The Marvel properties that are not currently with Marvel (Spider-Man, X-Men, FF, Ghost Rider, etc) are all licensed with deals that say those other studios only get to keep the rights as long as they make films on a regular basis.

So, as soon as Disney bought the company, Fox announced reboots of FF and Daredevil, and started pushing harder on X-Men related films (Wolverine 2, X-Men 4 and First Class). Sony announced a Ghost Rider sequel, Spider-Man 5&6 (4 was already in development at the time) and Venom.

Oh, and just since Green Lantern is part of the subject, but is getting short shrift in the thread - Jackie Earl Haley looks set to play the villain, Sinestro. And the film looks to be shooting in New Orleans, after fluctuating exchange rates made original locations in Australia too expensive.

Green Lantern Flying To New Orleans

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/SuperGamer/news/?a=11210

Kevin Murphy, manager of studio operations at the facility had this to say:

"The rumours are correct, we are working out the details, and we have a nonrefundable contract to rent stage space to the production."

"It would be: paint dries on one day, they're moving in the next," he told The Times-Picayune. "It's an awesome opportunity."

The revelation follows recent confirmation that production for the Green Lantern movie is moving out of Sydney because of the strengthening Australian dollar adding $20million to the budget.

Rumored also was locations of Canada and Mexico were under consideration.

Production crews would move into the New Orleans facility in December and begin building the sets. Filming would then start in March and continue into July or August 2010.

Nothings been confirmed as yet, but other locations would also be used for shooting too. Ryan Reynolds of course has been confirmed in the title role as Hal Jordan but no other cast members as yet have been named.

On a special and interesting note, Warner Brothers also filmed the DC adaptation of Jonah Hex in New Orleans too, with Josh Brolin playing the lead role of the hard faced Civil War-era gunslinger cowboy, with Megan Fox and John Malkovich. This could be a very good reason theGreen Lantern crew is going there?

Then that's pretty amazing, considering all the fuss PJ had w/ the contracts and what not. I figured a solid 5 years would be expected, and am glad to hear next Spring is the target projection start.

I'd be bummed if Ian McKellen wasn't in the line up. I'll consider it a bonus if Christopher Lee is in the script too!

I suppose, technically speaking , that all the Elves could be in The Hobbit. I mean, Elrond IS , but Arwen and Legoalas obviously are living in Rivendell and Mirkwood, respectively, at the time of Bilbo's journey. Not that the latter 2 would need to be in the movies.

ok, enough rambling.

Silver Surfer won't sell

He goes back on the book shelf

Silver Surfer Monthly Comics Not Likely
http://scifipulse.net/?p=15542
Quote:

Comic fans who have been hoping for a Silver Surfer titles will be disappointed to hear that there are at present no plans at Marvel do give the character his own monthly title.

Interest in a Silver Surfer comic has been an issue since he featured in the critically acclaimed Silver Surfer: Requiem and In Thy Name.

In a recent interview for Comic Book Resources Marvel Editor Joe Quesada confirmed that there are no plans for the character at present.

“While you’ll be seeing the Surfer surfacing from time to time in various Marvel titles, there are no current plans for an ongoing.

“This doesn’t mean that you won’t see one, it just means you won’t see one any time in the immediate future.

“The Surfer is a tough character and he’s had trouble sustaining a monthly ongoing, so we’d like to wait until we have just the right concept before testing the waters again.”

Anthony Hopkins up for Thor
He's playing Odin

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/anthony-hopkins-up-for-thor
'Kenneth Branagh's looking to add some more solid acting talent to Thor - Anthony Hopkins is jumping aboard to play the hero's dad, Odin.

Yes, you've got to admire the eclectic cast that Branagh is building around Marvel's Norse god hero (who will be played by Chris Hemsworth).

With Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Alexander and Colm Feore all confirmed as aboard, even if the film itself is a failure, the cast will be an intriguing blend.

Marvel's 'Super Hero Squad' Silver Surfer Is So Sweet He Hurts My Teeth

The "Marvel Super Hero Squad" cartoon premiered in September with a host of uber-cute versions of its characters, but the latest addition to the animated series' roster seemed worth a call-out. Boys and girls, check out the kid-friendly version of Marvel's wielder of the power cosmic: the sentinel of the spaceways known as... "silver britches"? Yes, it's the Silver Surfer.

DRAGO

Super Hero Squad is written almost as a parody of the characters. Yes it's kid friendly, and the humor is slapstick or toilet humor, but the characters are usually very funny parodies of themselves.

Silver Surfer: "I'm afraid we're a bit busy, maybe we could schedule a battle for next Tuesday?"
Dr. Doom: "Why yes, that would be lovely."

And you forgot to mention that the Silver Surfer talks like your stereotypical surfer dude.

GREEN LANTERN GO !!!

Gossip Girl's Blake Lively is Green Lantern's gal

http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=30331

When big-screen hero GREEN LANTERN isn't otherwise occupied with saving the planet using his nifty jewelry, he'll be osculating with a Gossip Girl.

TV star Blake Lively has landed the role of Carol Ferris, the love interest of Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).

Ferris runs her father's aerospace company (quite an accomplishment for the 22-year-old) that hires cocky test pilot Jordan, who gets conscripted into the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps and is tasked with protecting mankind by fabricating emerald-colored objects with a powerful ring.

Actresses Eva Green, Jennifer Garner, Diane Kruger and Keri Russell were all reportedly up for the role, but the studio was apparently impressed with Lively's audition and work in Ben Affleck's upcoming heist drama THE TOWN.

Two-time Bond relauncher Martin Campbell (GOLDENEYE, CASINO ROYALE) is directing the Warner Bros. action/sci-fi flick about the DC Comics hero. The movie is due in July 2011.
