Alright the verdict in on “V” ?

Just posting my opinion of the premier episode. I LIKED IT!!!!

Great start!!

Spoilers below so if you haven’t seen the show skip the post here,

##########################################################

Now here we go….. Wash and Inara together again on a spacecraft, excellent idea! It kinda bugs me a little that the two of them are (hopefully) on the wrong side and loosing side this time. But thems the breaks I guess. Even the beautiful smile Anna has can’t hide the evil intentions within methinks. Maybe she’ll see the error of her folk eating ways………meal time was such a happy time on Serenity……lol

And Alan gorramit, why’d he have to be a ruttin lizard-skin too, wasn‘t Zoe's cooking good enough? Why’d he have to turn into a reptile? Anyway I could hardly control my geekyness. Can’t wait until next week. I want to thank ABC again for the faith they’ve shown to the browncoat family in having not 1, but 2 Firefly alums on their new show……and Nathan on Castle on Monday nights……ABC is the place to be.

In closing I’ll just drop a hint for a future episode. The resurrection of Adam Baldwin as Major Mitchell ( Independence Day) military commander and top leader of the alien resistance. Might make for an interesting storyline…..

I can sum up Morena's performance tonight in one word:

Mesmerizing.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

It should have been a two-hour premiere. It seemed to me that it might have started out that way but a lot of stuff was cut. Very early on it was already "three weeks later" but not much had really happened yet, then the last fifteen minutes was very rushed.

Overall I would give it a B or B-. Good enough to keep watching, but mainly for Morena.

Same here. It did feel like quite a bit was cut out...like Serenity on SYFY.

Moreana was beautiful as always, but I did get a streak of mean underneath.

And poor Alan. Gunned down again.

I liked it. I will continue to watch it. I wish it had been 2 hours, it needed to be, but que sera. Alan was great, and he's certainly not going anywhere. Morena's appearance was very other-wordly; her eyes a bit cat-like, and her voice reminded me of her using her feminine wiles. I liked the rest of the cast including Scott Wolf who I thought did a good job. This is something I will look forward to seeing each week.

Seeing Alan shot down and then seeing him back up and kicking in the previews for next week made me smile, "Wash! You can't kill him either!"

Alan's character is coming back? Yes!! The show desperately needs is sense of humor. Too much drama is too boring for my taste. (Curse you sudden but inevitable betrayal!)

Morena looked a little odd. I think it's the make-up. I think they did it to make it look like she wasn't really very human. You could almost see her eyes turn into slits or something.

Overall I'm pretty excited about the next episode. They're really teasing us with the 4 episodes before taking a hiatus.

always good to see any of the gang showing up on another job. and God knows I need to be watching something other than my 4 disc collection of firefly..my wife is long ago concerned over my narrow viewing selection.

I am hoping that if/when they release the DVD of this new "V" that they will run it with what must have been a second hour of cut material in the pilot..there was way too little offered in just an hour. I will stick around for the next epi.

The episode felt very rushed to me. I was wondering early on if any of the people we were meeting were really aliens, but I didn't think we'd find it out in the same episode.

I like that they cut down the clapping and cheering after Ana's first message to the world. That still drove me a little nuts. These guys just caused basically a big earthquake, broke a bunch of stuff, and said they want our resources but because they said the word "peace" people clap? Not believing that one.

I was sorta surprised the kid signed his own permission form. I thought it seemed obvious that he'd get his Dad to sign it. Just to drive a further wedge between the Dad and Mom.

Overall there wasn't much believability to the show for me. The premise is still interesting though. I'll give it another chance for sure.

Interesting posts my fellow browncoats!

Pizmobeach & Patchist, yepper I was thinking about that too ( too much drama and becoming stagnant and boring) “V” finds itself in an odd position, what to do to bring in non Sci/fi folk and not become stale. We know that for a science fiction tv show to succeed and draw in a bigger viewing audience that will tune in every week it can not take itself too serious. That will loose the non devoted viewers very quickly. How can “V” achieve this and still be good?

Firefly and Galaxy Quest are a couple of shows that seemed to have been able to mix emotional drama and comedy and still come out smelling like a rose.

My wife picked out that Alan was a bad guy rather quickly, so if the writers were thinking that that bit of breaking news was a shocker…..they were way off mark. She exited to the kitchen just as the last scene of the episode faded out. Wash, dead again. Not so I had to find her and tell that he would be back for the next episode…..and with glee I might add.

I know that “V” cannot become a sci/fi comedy ( like Ice Pirates- which I rather enjoyed) But it will have to do something. The younger priest that was right on the borderline of crossing the LINE was a little disturbing, hope that that isn’t pursued in later eps. And the fellow that was about to pop the question to his fiancé is a lizard thing himself ? Holy smokes……what if they had kids?

“ Hi good to meet ya, here’s my son Iguana-Don, and my daughter Herba-Don. We'll have the double paddy McMice burger with a side of Hash-browncoats thank you!”

Z

Zeek, I totally agree with you on the clapping thing.

And I love Morena playing evil.

Very impressed by the visual effects and set design (Virtual sets perhaps?) on the mothership.
Morena was, as has been noted, mesmerizing, and Alan was... Alan!

Nice that the symbology of the Visitors (as seen in the view from the floating remote assassin) is the same as in the original miniseries.

It was rushed...but I think my biggest problem with the episode was something they even pointed out in it...all the aliens are very "beautiful" people. I certainly have nothing against the great looks of Morena B. & Laura V., but one of my favorite characters from the original mini-series/series was 'Willie' played by Robert Englund. That character/actor would have no place in this group.
Everything just seemed so FORMULA and predictable.

Also...and I will put this under spoilers:

The idea of having the sleeper cells already in place on Earth and the Visitor resistance force already established out of Visitors who suddenly felt invasion would be wrong seem a bit too neat for my tastes.

You know this is a remake, right?

It was about what I expected ... hokey. Wasn't the Visitor's leader named Diana in the original? And now they are going with Anna. I found it interesting the way Anna blinked, very reptilian like. It must've been on purpose, right? Was that Moreana or did they CG that in?

I watched not knowing what the original show was. I mean, I knew it had something to do with aliens that look like people (from the commercials), but didn't know why the show was called "V". (Wait, V for Visitors? Ohhh. I get it now.)

Other than the knife in my chest whenever I see Morena with short hair, the show seemed alright. I agree it should have been 2 hours, though. (Damn ABC, keep pushing their Dancing crap.)

Yay, Morena is major character! (She has a job!) Wow, she's so pretty. And good. A good evil woman/reptile.

Alan's in it. Awesome.

Select to view spoiler:

Halfway through the show he turned Alpha-like evil. Cool. But then they stabbed him through chest with that thing. Crap, they killed him again! I got kinda pissed.

After it all, I see the preview: Wash lives!!!

I think I'll be watching this show. (Hell, I got nothing else to watch on Tuesday nights anyways.)

Have none of these people seen The Twighlight Zone episode "To Serve Man"? Or at least seen the Simpsons' Halloween episodes?

I just watched it over the weekend, and found it a bit... mehhhh.

It wasn't *bad* (like Defying Gravity or Dollhouse, for example), but it wasn't really *good*, either. I'll keep watching because of Morena and Alan, but that's about it. It only seemed to get even moderately good in the last few minutes, so they really need to keep things moving along...

On the bright side, Marc Singer is nowhere to be seen! :)

I'll say that I liked it but it seemed a bit rushed. I don't recall how long the mini-series was, but this series seemed to expose a LOT in this first hour that the mini-series drew out over 2 or 3 episodes. Or is it just me? It'll be interesting to see how it goes from here. Overall a B- from me, so far.

I have to admit, I recorded the original mini-series from SyFy and realized how hokey it was. But heck, back then anything sci-fi on TV was cool. Especially to a teenager like myself.

I pretty much have to concur with all of the above. Except I'd give it maybe a C+, tops. BARELY above average.

And yes, I recorded the original on Syfy, too. I got *maybe* 25 minutes into it before I just couldn't take it any more, and erased it from the hard drive. It looked like a Quinn-Martin production. Or maybe Belasarius. ;)

Why isn't Morena getting star billing for this show? She's listed down in the credits as "with Morena Baccarin" after everyone else on the show including the guy mopping the stage floors. The "lead" protagonist here, the FBI mom, is not someone who is going to inspire anyone. Faye Grant, she 'aint. And I'm not buying the priest-turned-resistance wannabee either. Still, the show is worth watching for its' potential, but so far it's been rather mediocre in my opinion.

JJ's 'Lost' and 'ER' got better network ratings than Firefly so in ABC's minds Elizabeth Mitchell is the girl to front the show

Networks can be dumb sometimes but I kind of understand where they are coming from

I think its good, the actor brings it across convincing, he's trying to do the right thing but he's conflicted about it. and btw Priests can be bad@ss, its only in modern times they mostly preached that charity, turn the other cheek stuff. Back in the old days Priests could be absolute psychos, Popes went to war instead of doing speeches and the most dangerous kinds of warriors are the ones who know 'God Is On Their Side'

As far as I'm concerned, and from what I've heard from others who've seen the show, Morena IS the show. She is why people are watching. She is the exotic enigma. She is the beauty who is capturing the fancy of a new generation. She deserves top billing, just as Jane Badler got in the original series.

I actually thought it kinda sucked somethin/ wicked. It was as if they had written a 2 hr premiere and then ABC was like guess what fools, 42 min!!! Not to mention it was predictable. If you wanna keep people from seeing someone as a traitor, make them an asshole, not sweet and funny. But Alien Tudyk did surprise me.

People who put cutesy political quotes in their signature should be tortured and fed their own family and/or pets.
