It's definitely on my list of movies to rent, but I'm still trying to keep up with the DVR, which is rapidly filling up as we speak. I bought Weeds - Season 5 Tuesday, and haven't even had a chance to watch it yet. And I lost an episode of Fringe because I didn't watch it soon enough.

I'm fighting a losing battle with having TOO MUCH good TV right now. How crazy is that? I've got White Collar, Burn Notice, I've got Damages starting, Archer, Modern Family, Fringe, Supernatural, and who knows what else to try to keep up with. I *finally* got caught up on Chuck last nite. Chuck still rocks, and is still among my very favorite shows on the air right now.

But I absolutely want to see Moon. And The Hurt Locker. And Big Fan, with Patton Oswalt. And more. So much TV, so little time!

Yeah, you can ORDER it, but no store in 25 miles of me has it in stock. Kinda tells ya something, don't it?

Once again, the corporate braniacs have thought this through well. Don't stock up on the INTELLIGENT movies; they don't sell. No wonder not so many really good movies get made.

Trying to find it on Blu-Ray was like pulling teeth. Most places like Target had like one copy of the s-dvd.

Finally found it at Best Buy.

It's a great movie. Although I can't recommend it to my "Where's the action?" friends, the more cerebral 2001 crowd of friends will most likely dig it.
Any movie that can question individuality, and human spirit has my vote.

Look here if you want the movie ruined for you.....YES, I AM EVIL

Select to view spoiler:

The one man mining crew on the moon(Sam Rockwell) is a clone. Turns out there are thousands of them on the moon base. One is activated every three years. Problem is he is a clone of an actual person with a wife and child.
And a clone, like you or me has feelings and memories.

When another clone is activated by accident(two Sam Rockwells) on the moon base things get very confusing for a while. Until they accept they are clones. They devise a plan for one of them to get back to earth(via shuttle pod) without the government knowing.

The payoff is great, and I found myself reflecting on human existence after it was finished.
Good stuff.

Oh by the way Kwicko, Big Fan was freaking amazing. Funny and sad.

Unfortunately, I watched "Moon" on a long-haul flight which is never a good way to appreciate movies, especially ones that mess with your head. However, its certainly more intelligent than your average movie, and if I could turn back time I'd watch it properly for the first time.

NB: its one of those films where you really need to avoid spoilers, so be careful what reviews you read.

(I'd also completely stuffed up on that flight and took along a SF book that turned out to be a dramatized lecture in general relativity - good, but not after 10 hours in Economy class. Oh, my poor head...).

Isn't Moon the movie where a chronic tourettes sufferer also has a problem where he repeatedly exposes his backside at people?

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Moon is an excellent film, so it will be worth the wait until you can eventually track it down.

I'm pretty sure I linked to my review back when the film was in theaters, but even so I'm gonna do it again.

I didn't think I was alone with either White Collar or Burn Notice... But Archer!!! I've seen Training Day (episode 1) and Mole Hunt (episode 2) both at least 3 times... And I don't have TiVo or a DVR.. It's a sick, sick show... But it makes me laugh.

I'll read your review after I see it, Ec!

Asked my wife to add it to our Net Filx roster about a month ago. Found out last night that she did but it was about twelfth on her list.

I will tell ya that she’s moved it up to #1 or 2 since then. Says she’ll watch it with me too. She’s slowly turning into the geek she’s married…..lol.

Definitely not IMO although you could just be joking. It's difficult to tell in print.

It is brilliantly acted and fits very nicely into the 'old-school' way of making sci-fi movies. Sam fits the role just right and Kevin Spacey as Gerty has a voice that leaves you wondering what its true motives are. From what I know of your tastes you should love it. There are touches of 2001 but not in any rip-off type of way.

Hope you enjoy/enjoyed it.

Underestimations, both.
Awesome.
Up there with Solaris IMO.
Moreso when you consider the budget.
I will be watching this director.

As much as people go on about Avatar (me included), how great it is in 3D (it is) and putting aside that the plot is basically Pocahontas with aliens, to me Moon is a far far superior film in all ways. I would seriously recommend this to any sci-fi fan (and non-fans) as much as I would Serenity. They are different beasts, so you can't compare them, but I would certainly class them as level in their respective categories.
Further proof that Sam Rockwell is one of the most talented actors out there.

Thanks for the info GUYS (Guys meant as fellow browncoats, not Guy Fleegmans…..lol, just joking too). Now I want to see it even more.

I’ve watched the trailer several times on You-Tube and Sam sure does seem like he’s the lonely lunar cadet ready to get back to his home, wife and child. I’m sure space exploration will certainly be something like that in reality. Be nice to have the box set of Firefly season one with you, also season 2 & 3, and the BDM trilogy

As much as I already liked him from stuff like Charlie's Angels & Galaxy Quest, I have a whole new respect for the dude. That was, like, an Oscar-winning performance.
