Looks friggin awesome to me. Can't wait.

And yeah Zeek - you are the rare one with that view. the trailer is getting a massively positive response around the web and in theaters since it debuted last week.

I dunno, didn't exactly blow me away. There wasn't much more than what they showed in the initial teaser.

I'm sure Disney is going to hype the fact that Jeff Bridges is in it, which they obviously did in this trailer, to ride on the coattail of Bridges Oscar win.

In terms of the visuals, I realize that it's supposed to have the TRON look, but it seems dated to me simply because The Matrix changed the whole concept of what a virtual world could be like.

Computing power has increased thousands of fold since the original TRON, so why should it still look like everything is using vector graphics?

Remember this motorcycle scene from the Matrix?

Uh..... dude.... virtually nothing in the trailer was in the initial teaser - because the teaser was a proof of concept test reel done before the movie had even been cast (aside from Bridges). I can't peg a single shot in this trailer that was in the teaser.

Unless you wanted it to go into detail on the plot, I can't even make sense of that statement.

And this trailer was cut before Bridges' Oscar win. He's featured because the story is centered around two characters he plays.

Oops..okay..sorry, my bad. I looked at the wrong trailer from a different news site as opposed to the links you posted.

However, my comments about the visual still stands. And, really, it's more of a personal taste. Maybe it's because I'm a gamer and is used to seeing what my XB0x 360 is capable of.

The original TRON was great because it replicated what video games were capable of at the time and hence what the virtual world might be like.

Nowadays, where we have games that pushes the envelope, I just don't see why they're sticking with the subdued monochromatic palette.

TRON looks like a Kindle when it should look like an iPad.

I understand that it's supposed to be more than just about the visuals, but Disney could have gone with a more cyberpunk look.

Here are some examples of actual in game graphics from upcoming games.

Grand Tourismo 5

God of War III

WOW!!!

I hope the story lives up to the visuals. Just seeing Bruce Boxleitner(TRON) in the beginning of the trailer gave me chills.

I can't wait to see this movie.

Haken,
Have you played Heavy Rain yet? Groundbreaking stuff, and the visuals in it are insane.

I've seen it. Definitely awesome visuals, but not exactly my kind of game. I'm more a 'Halo: Reach' kind of guy. Definitely going pickup a copy of that when it comes out.

I personally prefer the stylized look. Games today are so advanced graphically that they approach a real life look - and that represented in a film would essentially just make it look like every single other CG heavy blockbuster.

i like that it has it's own world to it, that sets it out as distinct. If it reflected how games look now, it'd look generic. Sure, you could have a Gran Turismo-esque scene.... that would play like one of the CG car chases in Fast & Furious. And a God of War scene that looks like a deleted scene from Clash of the Titans. Meh.

But keeping the stylized look - there's nothing else out there that it resembles, and I see that as a very good thing.

Been playing that myself this week. Very engrossing (when the PS network doesn't jam the whole damned thing up, grrrrr).

Totally agree with you on this STORYMARK. This over preoccupation with making CGI reflect reality is tiresome and lacks finesse. It's a little like making a painting look like a photograph. Where's the style in that?

...And have you guys played Grand Tourismo 5,6,7, or whatever we're on now? It's as sterile as Grand Tourismo 1. Jacked up graphics does not a great game make.

But each to their own I guess. Could be why only a handful of folk watched the original TRON back in 82...

Oh, I have nothing against realistic graphics in games, nor photo-realistic painting (which is what I studied for years, actually). But for the purposes of a movie such as Tron, looking like everything else would be boring.

Agreed about improved graphics not improving gameplay. I don't care how shiny the graphics are, if it aint fun, I aint playin.

As to people not watching Tron back in the day.... I would say some of it has to do with the visual style - which was rather wild at the time. But also, part of it comes down to Disney's distribution system at the time - they had an abysmal record in the late 70's/early 80's for live-action films, so many theatres refused to run Tron. And then there was this little scifi kids movie that came out just after Tron.... went by the name of ET.....

I do with games! I remember getting Grand Tourismo 3. I sat there, with my front room totally realigned so that I could squeeze in this contraption of a force feedback steering wheel, brake and accelerator pedals all primed and clamped down so as to not diminish the whole driving sensation and what happens? I spend the better part of the night chugging around in this:

endlessly going around an OVAL circuit to ramp up some credit to buy what? some better brakes for the lupo!!! Realism gone mad mate.

Photo realistic painting is fine - I studdied that too - but I like me some individual style in there somewhere's I guess. More of an 'UP' than 'Final Fantasy' kinda person.

The looks of TRON Legacy boils down to one thing: nostalgia. In fact, the whole reason to make TRON Legacy is for the fans who saw the original TRON oh so long ago.

If we didn't have the original TRON, there would be absolutely no reason to make TRON Legacy.

I, too, and incredibly anxious to see this movie. If only to add just that little more to the storyline of the original.

Ahhh! This is the kind of response I was expecting! Thanks, everybody!

Oh, and Storymark speaks for me with regard to the stylized look as opposed to "normal" color palette.

EDIT: Got my message, did ya, Chris? Thanks for jumping in!

Thanks for the linky's,....I for one can't wait! I loved the origional and this looks good too! I work in IT, so I always have looked at this as an "idea" of what the processor world is,...I hope the people who weren't around 'in the day' will like it as well. I am sad to see no helmets, and hair? There should be no hair,...but that's my opinion.

Guys, I hate games, so I can't comment on how they compare.

No one sees the dude dressed like captain Eo playing an air guitar? That looks like a normal scene to you?

Even the guys in orange nerd jerseys coming up an elevator standing in formation is cheestastic IMO.

I'm not saying a cheesy movie can't be funny, but it looks like this is going for a somewhat serious angle. If this were in the universe of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy then I'd be more forgiving.

It's quick, but you can see them wearing helmets in a few shots, looks like they don them for actual combat, but eschew them otherwise.

Well you're welcome to your opinion, but as said, it's a minority one. The clips getting raves about everywhere.

And the "air guitar" guy is apparently the MC for the gaming events, so he's supposed to be a showman. The actor is Michael Sheen.
