I should talk. I wargame a couple of different periods. We paint lead figures and do battle on a table. I take such pride in my units. Napoleonics has such colorful and detailed uniforms. The Union infantry of the American Civil War dark with blue coats and black belts. One is so bright and the other dull, but it does not matter. The time spent painting them gives me such pride placing them on the field of battle. Now you know my obsession.

It is so strange. Napoleon wore a very plain uniform, but he had his marshals in gold braid. Murat was the worst. He was a fashion whore.

One Murat's tamer uniforms.
He was made king of Naples. Can you imagine the uniforms in that army.

And because I went off topic.

I think the best uniform for Federation crews was the dark red introduced in "The Wrath of Khan".
The later uniforms in "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager" take a close second best.

Okaaay, now we're workin on seperated at birth or something, Traveller!

I got Warhammer 40K and Epic Space Marine armies, of course, right lot of em, since I played that up till their cult-like behavior started to really wig me out...

But yeah, I also do civil war, a smallish combined arms unit known as "Butlers nuts" (a pun on the color of the jackets, which are sort of a brownish color, don't ya know...) which I've used in larger battles to great effect against the infantry-heavy Union forces.

Shotgun & pistol cavalry, couple snipers, a couple platoons of skirmishers and a rather fine set of 12 pounder Napoleons which used to belong to some yankees who didn't think to guard the railroad switches, meh heh.

It's very strange that we share so many common interests though, innit ?

Well, that was a big part of it, Traveller, them constantly changing, often breaking, the game to try to sell you more crap - to which my response was to stick with the original rules and by-unit points cost and screw their charts and tables, if I am playin a pack of imperial defectors and renegades why the hell would *I* care about imperial organisations anyway, right ?

To which, and also in part for not using their crummyass paints, they yank my preferred customer status, and after dishing out a HUMILIATING defeat to their fair-haired company boy (cause I was the only one with an army even close to the size of his for-free one) they blacklisted me entire.

But more than all of that was their downright creepy cult-like mentality about it, seriously, the company reps and their pets were freakin scary, you'd think they believed their corpse emporer was real and in charge of the company or something - as of late since their own biz practices have tanked em, they've gotten lawsuit-happy too, which is even more wiggy.

But.. at least the Confederate States of America aren't likely to bitch at me too much for infringing on their copyright or taking historical liberties, that's a plus, innit ?

Favorite moment of that, union forces passing a seemingly abandoned plantaition home, and catching a full-flank barrage of cannister and getting run down by the cavalry coming over the hill behind it as they scattered in terror.

MESSAGE TO GENERAL WHELAN: SOUTH FLANK SECURE.

But the real kicker (since we all know the official store prices are inflated) was that it's carried by friggin Walmart for like $13.50USD

I seem to be watching more television on my computer then my TV. I actually wait and see shows on FANCAST.com instead of watching them when they origianally braodcast. I can watch when I want and with fewer commercials.

FANCAST has all ten seasons of "Stargate One" and I am finally seeing it in proper sequence. It is more enjoyable then catching it in bits amd pieces. I am in the middle of season nine with Vala, Claudia Black. So I am near the end. They just don't have the final film. May have to rent that.

So I am looking forward to this new Star Trek. To much to watch and not enough hours in the day.

Which one? (There are two: Ark of Truth and Continuum.)

Speaking of new Star Trek, here's something you guys may have missed. A few years ago, back when Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars microseries was making waves, A group called Zero Room Productions pitched concepts for an online animated Trek microseries called Final Frontier.

Unfortunately, there was a shakeup at CBS, and the J.J. Abrams movie came along and steamrolled everything, so the project ended up collapsing. The show's resources have recently been posted online.

The show was planned to be set in the far future of the Trek universe; 2528 (for perspective, Star Trek Nemesis happens in 2380).

Quote:

In the wake of a vicious attack, warp travel has been rendered useless throughout much of Federation space. The detonation of multiple Omega devices has ripped subspace apart, marooning a handful of Federation worlds in their own systems, destroying key starbases, and stranding some Federation citizens decades of sublight travel away from their nearest neighbors and the protection of Starfleet. After investigating the attacks, the Federation discovered evidence of Romulan involvement and, desperate to retaliate, immediately declared war. The second Romulan war began, with the Romulans denying any involvement in the devastating Omega attacks.

With large sectors of space impassable at warp speed, the war quickly devolved into the 26th century equivalent of trench warfare, with heavy losses on both sides and little advancement for either force. A truce was reached, and the once mighty Federation retreated behind its borders to concentrate on rebuilding its worlds, strengthening its core systems, and ensuring that such an attack never occurs again. Starships once responsible for exploring the galaxy and maintaining diplomatic relations with non-Federation worlds were recalled to patrol the borders, and the scientific mandate of Starfleet was abandoned in favor of isolation and protectionism.

Yet there are those in Starfleet who know that humanity was meant for more, and that our foray into the stars was borne not of a desire for power but for knowledge and adventure. Captain Alexander Chase of the U.S.S. Enterprise is one of these men, and he's about to make a decision that will set Starfleet back on the right path...

I recently saw the Episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" which was essentially the first Star Trek episode aired. The boxes of the series indicate this was Episode 2 (after The Cage, never aired in the 60's), and imdb calls this Episode 3 (after 1- Man Trap and 2- Charlie X).

Anyhow, the Engineer/Navigator is not Chekov but Kirk's best friend. The Helsman is not Sulu, but Sulu is in blue uniform and introduced as a Department Head, along with the Doc (not McCoy) and Sally Kellerman.

Anyhow, The Helmsman is played by Paul Carr.

My favorite Sci-Fi series from the 70's is The Six Million Dollar Man. In the very first episode of the series, the very first character in scene who is moving, is also Paul Carr.
In a later season, Paul Carr also plays the henchman of Malachi Throne (in White Suit) of an episode named "The Bionic Woman" which eventually spawns a spin-off of that name. His scenes are at the beginning of the show, before Steve Austin heads to Ojai.

Consider the chances of being a part of iconic Sci-Fi history to this degree. The first Complete episode of Star Trek, the first regular episode of the series $6 Million Man (it had been TV Specials before that), and the Episode which created the Jamie Sommers Bionic Woman role. That sounds like a trifecta.

The Bionic Woman 2-part episode also set other records. IIRC it was the first network series episode that was either a 2-parter, or a 2-hour special. I forget which.

I've been thinking about this, and I was a bit surprised when I looked these up. Think of how many of the most memorable episodes of Star Trek were actually in the first dozen aired, or scripted. How amazing is that?

Poignantly, reminds me of a little show I loved from Fox.

Recently conjuring about plot holes.

When Kirk joins up in Iowa, they leave into space to the Academy, him meeting Bones but already having met Uhura in Iowa.
The Academy is in San Francisco.
From Iowa to San Fransisco, they travel to space to, IIRC, a space station?

Does this make as much sense as it seems?
