It seems my plan to let another purchase it for me is falling through. Someone suddenly decided that "saving for unforeseen consequences" or something like that was a good idea. Damn lifestyle changes messing up my plans.

I'll probably get it, but not anytime soon. When I do it'll be 2D and Blu-ray. The 3D was fun, but without one of them there new fangled tellyboxes that display it, tis useless. That and it'll look extra crisp and detailed in 2D too.

I read someplace (I forget where. Forgive me, can't be bothered looking it up again) that the reason the current editions were so bare was down to the movie quality. So they say, definitely not just to get more money out of fans. Oh no.

They wanted to use all the available disc space to produce the highest possible audio/visual quality, so they didn't waste valuable disc real estate holding all the extra crap. At a later date they'll compress the film more and add in extra features and stuff like that. I don't get why they couldn't just put the extras on a second disc in their first release.

My oh-so indecisive friend changed her mind again and bought avatar on blu-ray after all. She has not long left my place, and the verdict is? It was very pretty. Big surprise there. I think I enjoyed it more this time round than when I saw it at the cinema in 3D. The detail put into the film was great and a fair bit seems to have been lost on the big screen with making stuff pop out at you.

I'd watch it again in 3D if I had the chance, I thought the effect was good, but I definitely prefer the clear, crisp details that watching it in 2D and HD allowed. The sound was a really nice 5.1 mix too, pretty to hear. The blu-ray came with the DVD version included also, I don't really get the reason for that. That DVD could have been their bonus disk.

Anyhoo, I've rambled on enough in this thread. It was good times. Don't mind an average story presented with some stunning visuals? give it a try.

I'm very glad to have seen the 3D in the theatre to have that experience, but super-sharp 2D (to borrow a 60's phrase) is where it's at.

I got a chance to try out one of the new Samsung 3D TVs yesterday; I was not impressed. As I feared, the 3D just doesn't work for me. My right eye can't seem to process the signals correctly, so I see a messy blur. I see the 2D *GREAT*, though, so I'll be happy to watch it at home on my regular "primitive" flatscreen...

I walked into a Best Buy today, and they were showing the BluRay on a Samsung 55" LED HDTV.

Sweet Zombie Jesus!!

I hadn't even looked at big screen TVs since before BluRay came out, can you believe it!

I was in such awe looking at this picture, my jaw was dragging on the floor as I stumbled into the La-Z-boy they'd put in front.

I can imagine that a movie shot on film and remastered for BluRay couldn't match the detail of AVATAR, which was no doubt shot in HD.

Yes, it looks kinda good.
But skin rashes & nasal hairs sort of spoil it for me, know what I mean?
