So I know this show has some fans out there in Browncoatdom so I was wondering what you all thought of how the show ended.
Did it satisfy you? Where you disappointed? And most importantly should the show return for a sixth season or are things the way they should be.

Personally I've been expecting Sam to say yes to Lucifer for a few episodes. It seemed to me the way it was going. But I also expected Dean to end up saying yes to Michael in some kind of hope of saving Sam. The two of them would then fight it out with Sam eventually losing. I was wrong on that one, that would have been kind of typical so the fact that they went in a different direction was great.
As the episode began and Chuck talked about the Chevy I started to think that it was going to play a part. Especially after the rings didn't work first time I had these ideas that the car had something in it or something their Dad did to it that would enable them to trap Lucifer inside and have him go into the vortex thingy that way. I was wrong again.

Having said that I really liked how they went with the episode, keeping it more low key, more about a battle of wills and minds than physical fighting. Sam's sacrifice had to be done and he knew it and accepted it. Even Dean was willing to go through with it when it came down to the crunch. And the actual final scenes where Dean got what he never had the chance at but always wanted - a normal life - were a nice reward for him. And then the shot of Sam being back for whatever reason. Would he let Dean go and move on himself? Was he back for a reason? Now that the 'test' was over was there something bigger?
And was Chuck really God?

A very satisfying end to a great show that didn't really have too many down moments.
Should it come back for a sixth season?
I would say no, but it probably will and I will watch it if it does. It's had a great run so I say go out high and don't let it get dragged down by running out of ideas. I mean how do you top Lucifer and the end of the world?

Your thoughts?

It's already been picked up for a sixth season, according to most sources.

I've loved this arc of the show, and the ending wasn't exactly the one I hoped for, but it might be the one we needed. I'm not sure it SHOULD come back, but of course I'll be watching when it does... Gotta see how Sammy got out of hell. :)

And, of course, once you've battled THE demon, the head baddie, do you just go back to the Monster of the Week format?

I thought this really would be the final episode of the series. Eric Kripke has stated on several occasions that the plan was for a 5 year run. Given the buildup over the last 2+ seasons I wasn't sure how they could continue the series. I mean, how can you top Lucifer as your big bad? That being said this season finale was quite strong. Obviously there would have been some differences if the series was really going to end. I don't think Sam would be back, ditto for Bobby and Castiel. Their deaths were so swift it was like 2 quick slaps to either side of ones face.

I'm guessing a big part of season 6 will deal with Sam's psychological damage as a result of being Lucifer's vessel. Personally I think he is still juiced up and ready to go on the rampage. He may even still have a psychic link to Lucifer and/or Hell. Also, remember that time in Hell passes more slowly so his torment would have seemed longer than it really was.

The whole Chuck thing was a bolt from the blue and a great touch. You know this was Kripke's way of putting himself into the story while at the same time telling the fans to quit whining about every little thing they don't like. One of the great aspects of this show is the nod towards fandom throughout the series.

Great ride so far, can't wait to see what is in store next season.

Way I hear it, Kripke had a 5-year contract with the show, so he left at the end of the season, leaving Sera Gamble in charge.

The actors who play Sam and Dean have SIX-year contracts, though, so we'll get another year of them. Ms. Gamble said that the Lucifer story arc will be tough to top, so their going in a different direction and the tone of the stories will be more "intimate" in Season Six.

The interesting thing about this season is that although the show will be coming back, I think that Kripke worked the season overall as if it were the final year, especially the final episode.

Like BtVS, SUPERNATURAL will likely be a show that has more than one series finale.

I'm thinking (and this is a complete guess especially as I haven't seen any of the 2nd half of this season yet, sometimes I hate living in OZ) that maybe Sam will now become the Great Demon, taking over from Lucifer and send the armies of Hell to destroy the world in a FIERY VORTEX AND HURL THE BROTHER THAT FAILED HIM INTO OBLIVION FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!!! (**evil laughter**)

Just a thought.

That's the way that I basically heard it and understand it. Kripke did his five year plan so as far as he's concerned it is finished. It's not like he lied to the fans or anything. What the other folks do is out of his hands.

And then what will Jensen and Jared do after there contract ends. To me if one of them leaves the show is over. Much like X-Files in which a major part of the show is the two leads. That may mean the new folks only get a season Of course they may sign for more years as well.

On a plus side if season 6 does suck we can all just ignore it and still have a 5 season complete arc to fall back on, not some dragged out till nobody cares story that taints the good stuff.

To me, you just don't try to top Season 5. Season 6 needs to be about healing, reconnecting with the world, finding some happiness and normalcy, getting back to fighting the "little bads" a bit.

Didn't realize that about Kripke, Jensen, and Jared, and all their contracts. Not sure if the show will have the same feel without Kripke involved, but he sure went out on a hell of a note!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Sera Gamble has had a major role in shaping the show along with Kripke, so I'm confident it won't suck, but how compelling it will be after the Lucifer/Apocalypse storyline is anyone's guess. I just hope Lisa (Cindy Sampson) plays a big part in it.

While I don't disagree about Gamble's quality, I hope there's not a parallel to LOST. Although Damon Lindelof started the show alongside Abrams, once Abrams left and Lindelof (and Cuse) took control, the tone shifted tremendously... and not for the better.

Having said that, I don't expect the same to happen here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does feel tonally different.

CYBERSNARK

Last I'd heard, Kripke is still staying on as Exec. Producer, he just won't be writing. This is by no means an Andromeda-esque bridge-burning, this is a calm, well-managed passing of the torch.

Based on the strength of Sera Gamble's past episodes, and on her observations of where the show can go from here (more intimate is good; the strength of the show has always been the two brothers and the Metallicar), I'm willing to trust.

I just hope Castiel and Bobby continue to turn up. Show wouldn't be the same without them.

Moving to Friday for season 6 with Jared and Jensen "calling the shots." Not sure what that means, but I'll be there!

I've written many times on this board, that this is the best show on tv. And I still say it. In fact, it's the only show that I watch "on tv." House and Castle were fun, but just guilty pleasures. I gave them up to catch up with other things via Netflix. Nothing could make me give up Supernatural.

I thought the last episode was going to end a couple times before it did --- when they flashed on "The End" on Chuck's screen and when they pulled out of the window of Lisa's house where they were all sitting down together. When I saw that street light, I knew something was up. So, how did Sam get out? Is it Sam or is it Lucifer? Did God decide to get Michael out and, in doing so, allowed Lucifer out as well? Is Chuck God?

I also loved the flash back sequence when Sam/Lucifer was about to pummel Dean for the last time. They did it the same way as the introduction to the Season 5 finale of Buffy. However, this moved the story forward as well.

BIGRICHARD

I've got to say, as much as I love Supernatural, and will watch season 6, I wish this had been the finale. I wish that Cas and Bobby had stayed dead (as much as I like them both, it was too 'easy', just an "oh, it's ok, we got brought back!") because their deaths were shocking, and a great display of Lucifer's power.
It should then have gone the same way, as I too loved the flashback bit, and I loved the Chuck bits...

but then, again, I don't think we should've seen Sam by the streetlight. It should've ended with Dean trying to live a normal life.

ALL THIS SAID...
I think it'll be interesting to see Dean trying to lead a normal life, and probably failing, and it'll be great to see that demons still roam the world. I just can't see how they'll make a better series finale than this one..
