I watching an old of a film I taped and I hadn't seen in years and when it ended a program I had not marked on the label followed. It was called Man & Machine. I had two episodes recorded on the tape. It stars Yancy Butler before she did Witchblade.

There were a total of nine episodes.

TRAVELER

Detective Robert Mann gets a new partner; Eve Edison. Turns out she is a robocop. Nothing like the robocop in the movies, she is a warm and friendly robot. She already has the education to be a policeofficier, but she needs experience with humans. That is Mann's job.

The series only lasted about nine episodes. Unlike Firefly it never got a fan base. I'm not sure if it possible to get this on DVD. I have been catching up on it through YouTube. Someone has the whole series in their account. Yancy shows her comic side and is very good. Give it a try if you like your action series mixed with a little humour.

PENNAUSAMIKE

Absolutely LOVED Mann & Machine.
It was a summer replacement series in 1992 on NBC.
Lots of clever wordplay and dialog.

Bobby Mann to Eve: "You're the brains and I'm the muscle."
Eve: "I'm the brains AND the muscle."
Bobby Mann: "So, what does that make me?"
Eve: "The one who can get killed..."

Got jerked on and off the schedule for baseball, if I remember right.
I recorded it on VHS when it was on and years later bought a bootleg DVD recorded off The Sci-Fi Channel.
Far as I know, it has never been officially released on DVD.

Yancy Butler was a gem as the engenue, Eve.
But most of her career was spent playing troubled characters,
which was mirrored in her own life of alcoholism and bad relationships.
She was really good in Witchblade, but that series was a little too dark for my tastes.
My other favorite Yancy Butler roles were in the even-shorter-lived series, "South Beach" and the female lead in "Drop Zone", opposite Wesley Snipes.

I really like David Andrews as the tech hating detective who finds himself bonding with a machine.
He starred in the B-movie, "Cherry 2000".

I have thought it would be fun to transplant a variation of those two characters played by those two actors into the Firefly 'verse.
I'd have Andrews play a no-nonsense, somwewhat world weary sheriff on a Rim planet; and Yancy Butler play a middle-aged law enforcement desk jockey from the Core who gets herself transfered out to the Rim planet for some excitement.
Though both actors (and therefore their characters) are older, Butler could play the wide-eyed engenue again. Her inexperience contrasted with David Andrews been-there-done-that character would provide a similar dynamic to Mann & Machine, without the robot angle.

Ah, perchance to dream.....

DREAMTROVE

Yes, I remembered this show. The robot girl was hot. All those girl who doesn't know what reality is things are hot, like Hannah in Splash.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.
