Hmm. Harrison Ford, Yay...
Daniel Craig, eh...(sorry, NOT attractive to me, at ALL)
And that cat-eyed chick from House that looks remarkably like River in this trailor...

Oye, I'm hopin' it's got some spectacular one liners, 'cause it's gonna need 'em...

On the other hand, it's awful nice of 'em to be making movies specific to us, heh...

Does he need to be? Can he not just be a good actor?

I'll see it, in the theater or on video, whatever, we'll see if its good or not, could go either way.

Well, If I gotta go there... I was trying to be nice, but I'm not in love with his acting skills either...Expressionless and lackluster.
And if you gotta look at 'em for and hour and a half-yeah, it helps if to find the leading man in some way attractive. I've found a few of the more homely actors attractive because they can bring game, so no, I'm not entirely superficial...

I just don't like the guy...nothin' personal...just MY opinion...carry on...

Though now that I think about it, a couple gals I know don't think that much of him either...

Doing it backwards. Walking up the downslide.

Um, Cowboys and Aliens is a comic book. It was created in 1997 or sooner depending on where you look, and I remember hearing that it was the original inspiration for Men in Black, a good five years before Firefly. Of course, the full-length graphic novel didn't come out until 2006, so it could well have some Firefly influence, but the original concept is older.

And the gorgeous cat-eyed woman from House is Olivia Wilde, by the way.

Facts are stubborn things.

DREAMTROVE

It's hardly an original idea either way. I mean, sure, there are individual shots in the preview that were clearly taken from firefly episodes, but there were individual shots in Firefly that were taken from Outlaw Star, Bebop, etc.

As Joss said himself "All my work is derivative."

Spacewestern itself is not new, I'd be hard pressed to say who came up with the idea. I mean, it appears, at least in shades, in golden age. As for putting it on screen, firefly is by no means the first. Maybe the first live action, but then, it's really sort of a subgenre of steampunk. Particularly, this film even seems a little more steampunk than spacewestern in general.

What was that Don Bluth film that was heavily derivative off of some comic book, and what was the comic? I think the movie was Titan ae.

(again, what isn't derivative. Is firefly farscape? or wild wild west? or is it just live action cowboy bebop or outlaw star?)

Let Favreau take a stab at it, see if he comes up with something interesting.

ZEEK

It looked like a basic action flick to me. I wouldn't expect anything deep from it. So, basically I'm saying it's going to make like 10x the money of Serenity. *sigh*

Uh... Firefly wasn't the first to do a western/scifi mix, and beyond those very surfacy details, I don't see that much in common between our show and this film.

Don't know where you heard that... The Men in Black comic was the inspiration for the Men in Black movie, and was published in 1990.

Looks as stupid as it sounds. Harrison Ford should win a prize for being laughably miscast.
Screenplay by Roberto Orci(among other 'LOST' regulars) So its a good indicator it will just plain suck. Pure, mindless popcorn fare for people who just want to sit in an air conditioned theater for a couple hours, and leave their brains at the entrance.

So many people sure of what it is without seeing it. Lots of psychics around. Or prejudgemental tools.

If Psychic is pre-judging a film by the track record of the creative team of the film, then I guess I have that ability. I hate Roberto Orci's work. Simple as that. He couldn't write a good story to save his life. Even his Hercules/Xena stories were lackluster...and that says a whole lot.
My opinion is that that the film will be a mindless popcorn movie. If you like those types of films, then more power to ya. Enjoy whatever makes you happy.

I just find it amusing that you complain about popcorn movies (which can still be solid) while bashing him for being involved with Lost, one of the least surface-level shows in recent years, pretty much to opposite of "popcorn" despite it's popularity. He's also responsible for Fringe, which is the most complex science fiction show in many, many years.

But all that aside, yeah, I tend to scoff any anyone who prejudges. I'm all for bashing bad movies, but only after having an informed opinion. Until you've seen it, you're just blowing smoke.

A big popcorn movie in the summer. Why, the nerve...
