Now (prior to becoming a Shepherd): The Mosquito Coast The Postman By The Sword

Since becoming a Shepherd, I find it difficult to watch a lot of television, even interviews. I was able to watch the recent Browncoats Redemption video, and that's been it as far as Firefly-related content goes for some time. You'll note also my posts do not include the sexual innuendos and comments often made by others. It is because I gave my life to Jesus Christ that I actively refrain from such things. In addition, I haven't seen any modern movies since 2004, except as they relate to unavoidable family imposed viewings (such as watching something at my mother's), nor do I watch TV any more.

I have recently begun fencing lessons though, and have taken a digital copy of the Eric Roberts and F. Murray Abraham movie, called By The Sword, and edited out all of the bad parts (cursing, suggestive scenes, comments) so I can watch it for its fencing and overall storyline.

Back then it would probably have been:

The Incredible Hulk Battlestar Galactica Space: 1999

but there are so many fondly remembered shows like Alias Smith And Jones, Six Million Dollar Man, Rockford Files and many others that it's hard to pick.

These days BSG holds up very well, The Incredible Hulk is okay but the episodes are very repetitive. The Six Million Dollar Man looks bad and I haven't seen to many other 70's shows to really comment on them. I tend to go more for 80's shows.

And now for a related thread hijack. I'm looking for the name of this TV movie/pilot that was from the 70's or very early 80's. It featured a man who survived a lightning strike and could then power light bulbs by holding them or use a typewriter by pointing his fingers at it. Basically he could discharge electricity but he only had so much before needing to recharge. He was given a watch to show how much charge he had. During a fight at the end he lands in some metal pipes whilst 'electrified' and you think he's dead, before he obviously comes back and gets the bad guys.

Any ideas?

ALRIGHT!! CAn't pick just three so I'll pick my favorite tv line ups: -Planet of the Apes/Kolchack the Night Stalker

-Incredible Hulk/The Dukes of Hazard.

-Grizzly Adams/The Muppet Show

Not to say I didn't love Battlestar Galactica, Kung-Fu, Buck Rogers(didn't that start in 79'?), Three's Company, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Six Million Dollar Man, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Space 1999(nearly as good as Trek) Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, M*A*S*H, and Star Trek reruns because I loved everyone of those shows and still do.

-The Bionic Woman-Freaking love this show(season 2 comes out in May YES~!!!!).

-Planet of the Apes-Never gets old. Still crushed this didn't last longer.

-Six Million Dollar Man-Just cycling through the complete series(at a snails pace. I want to make it last). Just watched an episode the other night with William Shatner as a fellow Astronaut of Steve Austin. Great episode. Although I like Bionic Woman a wee bit better, I'm digging this set. To have both being released on dvd is a dream come true.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Like Penguin, I didn't watch a lot of TV in the 70s. I was in the Army 71-72, then from 74-90 I worked at two different jobs with mostly evening hours. I was one of the first people I was aware of with a VCR around mid-78, so I was able to tape some shows for the last of the decade.

I don't know if I could narrow it down to three, certainly not put those three in any particular order, so I'll just list the shows I remember more than others, although I will put them in roughly chronological order.

I would have said Mission: Impossible, but the best years of that show were in the late 60s.

I know it by name only, I never actually watched it though.

I just recently got hold of Sapphire And Steel. It was one of the first supernatural themed shows I watched and it had a major influence on me. Looking forward to re-watching it. It was a great show back then with the emphasis on story. Hope they hold up although I'm sure the visuals will look very dated.

I was going to add MASH to my list as well but I didn't see it until reruns in the 80's so I figured it didn't count.

Probably would seem like cheese nowadays, but back then it was riveting. I've never seen it again in 40 years. One of your picks, Planet Earth, was the sequel to another great Roddenberry TV movie called Genesis II. Remember that one? Alex Cord played the first Dylan Hunt, a 20th century scientist who awakens from accidental hibernation hundreds of years later.

Happy Days Battlestar Galactica Barney Miller Rockford Files weird taste for a child 10 and under but they were the shows I would have tantrums about if I couldn't watch them. now there's not much on that really grabs me but the most entertaining are: Big Bang Theory The Mentalist Ashes to Ashes I mainly watch reruns of TV faves like Mork and Mindy Diagnosis Murder Magnum PI Pride and Prejudice Porridge Roseanne I have been watching Castle on the internet as Australia has only just started showing season 3 and I don't like to wait.

There was a lot of dreck in the 70's TV, much of it listed in this thread. I know the Six Million Dollar Man Pilot was a TV movie, but most of the rest I just thought were cinema films from the past few years, so can't list much of them.

Tough to make it 3, but I'll go with The Six Million Dollar Man Charlie's Angels Rockford Files

Others I considered: Baa Baa Black Sheep. Hawaii Five-O Kung Fu Hogan's Heroes Starsky & Hutch Men from Shiloh Mission: Impossible Emergency SWAT Harry-O Switch Eischied Ellery Queen Serpico CHiPs Project UFO Vega$ Logan's Run WKRP In Cincinnatti (why was Jan Smiithers taken away from us?) Now, I like Baa Baa Black Sheep better than I did then (I served in the Corps Air Wing - including VMA-214 - between then and now), so it probably knocks Angels out of the top 3.

I was born in 1970, so most of my favorites from then are from the end of the decade. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, of course Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers are near the top of my list. Although they're from the early 1980s, I also fondly remember the crop of Indiana Jones-inspired stuff (Tales of the Gold Monkey, The Quest, Frank Buck: Bring 'Em Back Alive!, and even Casablanca: The TV Series).

Another remnant of my childhood (that I don't think is on DVD yet) is The Great Space Coaster.

For comedies, I remember loving the "classic" Tuesday night line-up: Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and (when my parents would let me stay up to watch it) Three's Company and Too Close for Comfort.

During the first season or two, Saturday Night Live had some Jim Henson bits, so my parents would wake me up to watch SNL as a 4 or 5 year old! (They also took me to see JAWS and most of Burt Reynolds's sex farces in the theater, so sometimes I question how drunk they may have been...)

I also enjoyed WKRP IN CINCINNATI (only years later realizing that the whole idea, including the credits song, was stolen from a Harry Chapin song) and TAXI. Even at an early age, I had an affinity for "workplace comedy," it seems.

Unfortunately, with DVDs readily available for a lot of these, the years have not been kind. BSG and Buck Rogers still have some legs if you're willing to view them with your tongue firmly in your cheek, but I've tried Tales of the Gold Monkey twice and been stopped so cold that I'm afraid to watch the others. (The Quest was actually not terrible--I got a bootleg--but it's only 4 or 5 episodes, so it doesn't have too much time to get too bad).

Time has been far crueler to the comedies, since my sense of humor, as well as the national sense of humor, has changed to so much. I've caught a few episodes of Three's Company, and maybe they still inspire a chuckle, but the show seems so juvenile these days. WKRP and even the classic MASH are largely unfunny nowadays. Taxi stood up much better than many other shows of the day, but it's tinged with such an air of sadness that I never got the second disc from netflix.

I see at least one person mentioned Alias Smith and Jones. If anyone knows where I can find a decent bootleg of that, or the Casablanca TV series, let me know.

Favourite shows would have been -

Dr Who (Pertwee and Tom Baker) The Rockford Files (so pleased to see it getting so many hits in this thread! Stands the test of time really well) Blakes 7

The first two of these would still be in my top shows from the 70s. Generally I think tv has improved massively since those days- especially US tv. Rockford would make my all time top ten along with- firefly, BSG (new version), Deadwood, Rome, Poirot, Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett), Band of Brothers, Robin of Sherwood and Buffy.

My dog is named Rockford :-)

Fringe (it comes close to the feeling I had when I first started watching Firefly).

Breaking Bad (AMC show; I'm hooked)

Big Bang Theory - will the nerdy guy get the girl. Neither is perfect and I love how the show handles it. Bernadette, rrrwwwwrrrr! Girls with glasses always gets to me, especially when they look like that.
