SPOILER DISCUSSION!!!

Had not known from the previews, but clearly this is Sci-Fi.

The pilot character seems well portrayed in terms of his new abilities, seems accurately done. Not yet explained how he got the ability, seems new to him.
I did enjoy Milo in Heroes, good to see him again.

The Whispers (2015– ) TV Series | 60 min | Drama, Sci-Fi
www.imdb.com/title/tt3487410/?ref_=nv_sr_1

An unseen force is manipulating society's most innocent -- our children -- to act in favor of its cause. As the kids unwittingly help this unknown enemy, the clock counts down in this suspenseful race to save humanity.

Originally was titled "The Visitors" but ABC changed the title due to the similarities to the show "V" starring Inara (Morena Baccarin).

ABC‘s The Whispers feels more like something that should pop up on Syfy, and while that isn’t at all a bad thing in general, it also feels like the kind of show developed around the brainstorm-session telling of its opening ten minutes.

“Here’s a creepy scenario,” someone says, and the response is to tell him to just keep going.

As is becoming all too common, the story is written largely paying attention only to the tenets that – A) if it’s really goofy, but everyone is very serious, it’s really good – B) bullet points are all you need in our era of short attention spans.

Point A is basically the simple result of people wanting to get a lot of sci-fi on the air, even when they don’t understand why people like sci-fi. They don’t get why things work, but they know LOST was popular. Point B leads to a kind of anti-construction. If the synopsis says a character does something insane, because that’s what we need in order to get to the next bullet point, that’s just what happens. Developing a character so that it makes sense that they would act that way is, using the turn of phrase of writers and producers, “something people read books for.”

This in mind, The Whispers begins by making young children very creepy. If you aren’t immediately turned off by the premise of little kids, and their imaginary friends, wreaking a certain kind of havoc on the world, it’s rather compelling to see these youngsters, for example, packing hammers into backpacks and luring their parents into traps. It isn’t your usual sort of compelling, but it’s hard to look away. . . .

In the end, it’s a show that is merely a combining of elements, but the storytelling offers little craft. It’s like coming up with especially clever plug-ins using MadLibs, and concluding that you have thus created a good story. The real problem is that the show ultimately doesn’t deliver the tone it needs. It’s a dangerous effort, and you have to give it credit for at least taking up a challenge, but if the tone doesn’t come through in just the right way, it quickly turns silly. Most of the payoff moments are far more likely to spawn laughter than anything else, and the dialog, and curious turns of emotional response don’t help.

What is Mad Libs? It is a word game where one player prompts others for a list of words to substitute for blanks in a story, before reading the – often comical or nonsensical – story aloud. The game is frequently played as a party game or as a pastime. http://www.madlibs.com/

Too bad nobody wants to make Firefly as a 13 week series for summer, probably because it, sadly, isn't a 68 years old story. Bradbury's “Zero Hour” from The Illustrated Man (1951) was first published in a magazine in 1947. The story begins like this:

Oh, it was to be so jolly! What a game! Such excitement they hadn’t known in years. The children catapulted this way and that across the green lawns, shouting at each other, holding hands, flying in circles, climbing trees, laughing. Overhead the rockets flew, and beetle cars whispered by on the streets, but the children played on. Such fun, such tremulous joy, such tumbling and hearty screaming.

Mink ran into the house, all dirt and sweat. For her seven years she was loud and strong and definite. Her mother, Mrs. Morris, hardly saw her as she yanked out drawers and rattled pans and tools into a large sack.

“Heavens, Mink, what’s going on?”

“The most exciting game ever!” gasped Mink, pink-faced.

“Stop and get your breath,” said the mother.

“No, I’m all right,” gasped Mink. “Okay I take these things, Mom?”

“But don’t dent them,” said Mrs. Morris.

“Thank you, thank you!” cried Mink, and boom! she was gone, like a rocket.

Mrs. Morris surveyed the fleeing tot. “What’s the name of the game?”

“Invasion!” said Mink. The door slammed.

And now jumping to the end of Zero Hour:

Select to view spoiler:

They trembled together in silence in the attic, Mr. and Mrs. Morris. For some reason the electric humming, the queer cold light suddenly visible under the door crack, the strange odor and the alien sound of eagerness in Mink’s voice finally got through to Henry Morris too. He stood, shivering, in the dark silence, his wife beside him.

“Mom! Dad!”

Footsteps. A little humming sound. The attic lock melted. The door opened. Mink peered inside, tall blue shadows behind her.

“Peekaboo.” said Mink.

The Whispers is brought to summertime replacement TV by the same "creative" team, scratch that and change to production company for crap, as Under the Dome http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1553656/?ref_=fn_al_tt_4

Does that mean nobody will watch?
Or does everybody think they have already seen it in another form?

It means that ABC's The Whispers Entirely Misses The Point Of Ray Bradbury's Story.

(Please admire the way I am not going on about how much better Bradbury’s story is, even though of course it is. I am trying to play fair here. “Zero Hour” captures 1951 ideal family life – set in an imaginary future – in much the same way The Whispers does that of 2015, complete with amiable, clueless moms. Except Bradbury’s story has humor, insight and energy, doing away with the need for commercials.)

But it you want to watch a crappy show live, rather than recorded, go ahead. The first episode will be repeated on Saturday, June 6th, 7PM CST, 8PM EST.

ECGORDON

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

"Zero Hour" was originally adapted as one episode of The Ray Bradbury Theater in 1992.

Starting with a short, short story and ending with 14 hour long episodes, the production company has to dilute Ray Bradbury's story with filler and hot air.
www.imdb.com/title/tt3487410/episodes?season=1&ref_=tt_eps_sn_1

The same people have used less dilution and less hot air on another show: Under the Dome. That was an entire book, not a short story, which was suppose to be one season of 13 episodes with a very well defined ending from the book. But now it will have a third season, for sure. And maybe a fourth. Or a fifth. Who knows how much hot air Hollywood can pump into a story before the American audience finally knows?

If Hollywood was making Game of Thrones rather than Europeans, that TV show would still be using book one rather than book five in the fifth season. Hollywood stretches the source material as much as possible!

That description sounds more like Wayward Pines. That does not sound anything like the Whispers that I saw. I take it you have not watched a minute or two of it.
