But if you can find a creative line from Titan AE to Firefly, please post a spoiler notice - Whedon won't want to read it

I would say that there are times when I would compare Wash to Xander, mainly with some of his one-liners, and especially character-wise in War Stories, when he looks up to Zoe in the same way as Xander does to Buffy, and wishes he could contribute more heroically in events.

Wash is TOTALLY Xander, you can tell by the Hawaiian shirts. And Book = Giles, except Giles not so much with the celibacy. But in terms of single-minded focus on ass-kicking, Buffy=Zoe.

OMG, now you've got me wondering about Ugly Veiny Simon...

Yeah! I just realized that some weeks ago. It just made me laugh so much when I realized one of my fav characters are a lot alike (Spike=Jayne, River=Willow). That should be telling me something, shouldn't it?

Tara=Zoe (I think) or maybe Inara?
Then who's Cordelia in Firefly?

Cordelia=tactless+pretty, so that's Simon's ecological niche. Cordelia isn't stupid (consider her SAT results although she isn't unusually brilliant either).

And I don't agree with the Spike=Jayne analogy (although I can see Jayne writing poems even more Bloody Awful than William's) because I'd call Jayne sociopathic but not really consciously evil.

Yeah, but Spike isn't really consciously (sp?)evil to me. Somehow I believe he tries to prove himself all the time. Refer back to Season 7 when it shows Spike RIGHT after he turned Vamp. He has a conscious and always will have one no matter what he does.
I see Jayne being being someone he truely isn't. I mean, why would he have second thoughts on certain things he's done?

But then if they're not like each other, who's Jayne like?

Hehe Simon's like Cordelia... Who's like Willow?

But I guess there is no right answer to all theses opinions unless it comes from Joss himself. ^-^;;

There's a scene in "The Gift" when Crazy Tara says something eerily River-ish.

Everybody in Buffy/Angel who's crazy always ends up sounding like River. *chuckles*

Cordy isn't really a *bully*, per se. She was arrogant and flighty in season 1; she verbally jousts with everyone in seasons 2+3, but is fairly reliable in a crunch.

On Angel she really starts to develop into a very good person.

well, maybe i misread Cordy, and i admit that i haven't watched Angel (though i am very slowly getting the Buffy DVDs and am going to start on Angel soon). Maybe it's just the arrogance and (what i read as) misuse of power. But i was also a theatre/chorus geek in high school, so i am overly sensitive to those kinds power trips.

Important people don't do field work.

I saw Simon as more of a Wesley character than anything else. I mean, before Wesley decided that he was a badass, embracing the darkness.

By the way, I love the gorram site!

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

I've definitely noticed some almost (if not) identical humor in Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. Even lines that have been used before on two different shows! Someone else mentioned the "Hey you..." said by Kaylee and Tara, in the same kind of tone, etc.. There's also Zoe and Mal talking about Serenity in Objects in Space just after Mal has bought it and Zoe asks if he bought it "on purpose", which I know for a fact was almost identical to something someone said on Angel, just not sure who it was.
Anyone else catch some of the identical humor?
Oh, and my version of who is who on each show:
Mal = Angel
Zoe = Buffy
Kaylee = Fred EASILY or an early Willow
River = Drusilla
Jayne = ANYA!
Book = Giles
Wash = Xander
Inara = ??
Simon = ?? again

Firefly Now, Sig Later...

Okay, here's my take:

River: Dru
Jayne: Cordy (even Joss refers to Jayne as the Cordy of the group)
Book: Giles but with more sex
Simon: Early Wes
Kaylee: Willow
Wash: Xander
Mal: Angel
Inera: ???
Zoe: ???

The last two are hard for me the characters just weren't flushed out enough for me. I'm sure they will be in the movie!

I'd agree with all of the above and just speculate that:

Inara = Cordy &
Simon = Wesley
