Does this seem logical to anyone else? 'Cause it doesn't to me. Jessica Alba is uberhot, but she is not Invisible Girl. Lets put aside the fact that she can't act if her life depended on it, but Invisible Girl - to my knowledge - is a blue eyed, blonde white girl. Alba is a dark haired, fairly tanned Latina. Fans of the Fantastic Four comics have been waiting for this movie for 40+ years, and this is what they do to the fans. Is Avi Arad on crack? Not only was I let down when they hired the guy that directed Barbershop and Taxi to helm this project, but now this tragedy. I'm dumbfounded. I honestly do not know what to say. And what pissed me off the most was that I heard this news right after I saw Spider-Man 2. I was incredibly happy and gratified seeing that it was a big improvement from the letdown that was the original, but then to come home and read that Alba was officially cast as Invisible Girl, I just went nuts. It was as if the studio had asked me to put out my hands, then they proceeded to take a dump in my hands. Then looked at me and said, "Here! Run off and enjoy."

Rachel McAdams would have been a better choice. She actually looks like a believable Invisible Girl, unlike Jessica Alba!

Only if she has her first nude scene... In order to get naked I need to take my clothes off.. and they show her taking them off... slowly... while doing a sexy dance.

And btw honey... well a bit of a dissapointment of a movie. I was wanting a lot more sexieness and a lot less kids. Guess I would be in the evil producer category. But at least I would be one that made MONEY off of his movie.

I heard that Alba was the one who got the whole kids thing on line. Perhaps a special directors cut is out with more sexy action.. but I doubt it. Alba is doing a very good job of staying sexy by not going trashy.

Hollywood is trying to kill me now. Lets continue with another terrible casting choice - Jack Black as the Green Lantern. I love the guy, but bad choice. He's a funny son of a bitch and his cameo in Anchorman, I think, stole the movie, but as the Green Lantern? Are they shittin' me? The description says a zany Mask-like comedy! Green Lantern is a superhero - hence action sequences. Zany comedy? Are they pulling these ideas out of their asses?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Anybody know when in the FF4 history the movie is set? Is it when they first get their powers? If so, then Rachel McAdams would have been a good choice for Susan Storm (later Richards) aka The Invisible Girl.

Jessica Alba definitely has the hottness factor, but I can not see her as the Invisible Girl.

I was one of the folks who couldn't understand casting Tom Cruise as Lestat. Lestat is a 6' tall blonde French hottie -- Cruise is a .... hobbit.

However, he did an excellent job. I enjoyed the movie and forgot that Tom Cruise is the antithesis of Lestat. Why did this work? Because when he isn't relying on his smile and tight bottom, Cruise can ACT.

Perhaps you should trust actors to be able to act and worry less about race or hair color?

It's not that. It's just that if their going to make a movie based on a popular comic book series, then why not make it faithful to the original concept instead of trying to change things to make it "fresh" or "hip". The comics have done fine for 40 years, they don't need to be changed whatsoever. I have nothing against Ms. Alba, I just don't see her as Invisible Girl. Her character and Johnny Storm are supposed to be brother and sister. They cast Chris Evans as Johnny. They should at least cast people that look like they are related. Now if you don't know who Evans is, he's the dude from Not Another Teen Movie, The Perfect Score, and soon, Cellular. He's an extremely light skinned, blue eyed, sorta blondish haired guy.

Whoa, wait a minute. They've been changing comics around forever to appeal to fresh audiences. This is nothing new. Their best selling books right now are the ultimates, which is a complete retelling of the old stories in new ways. There is nothing new with revamping storylines and personnell within those lines to spark a new fandom.

Personally I'm psyched. I think she's a lovely, talented actress, who will add a new dimension to a story that has been tried before and failed so miserably that they never even released it. I've seen pirated copies, it was horrible. Worse than Captain America or Dolph Lundgren's punisher, maybe even combined.

Let's give the director, and her a chance. If she doesn't pull it off, then it will be a bad thing, but I think she can. I think she has the acting chops to do anything she wants.

Sure, Jessica Alba isn't going to look like Sue Storm as the comics define her, but who knows whether it will work or not? I recall some mumblings about Kirsten Dunst as MJ because they were concerned about the hair colour.

That said, you wouldn't cast Will Smith as JFK or The Rock as Ali, so to an extent if you are casting an iconic image you need some element of matching - but when it comes down to it, will the majority of people know the FF that well? Sure they'll probably recognise on some level the rock guy, the stretchy one and the guy that goes on fire, but the woman in the dotted line?

On the Alba issue, I'm gonna reserve my judgement.

When they cast MC Duncan as the kingpin in daredevil I was like A Black Kingpin?? And although the movie sucked, he made a great kingpin.

Though I too am unsure of Alba's acting ability.

I thought she was supposed to be a comic character

I have to say I think the cast was pretty much spot on - Tobey Maguire has PP nailed (the CG kind of deals with Spidey), and JK Simmons is ripped from the pages of the original comic books.

I though Rosemary Harris managed to capture Aunt May this time round, that mix of frailty and strength, and as for Kirsten Dunst - they underwrote MJ again but she somehow made the character seem like she had more to do.

Every Monday these days, my friends and I get together for Fox Cancellation Night. That is where I first viewed Firefly. After that was over, we started on Dark Angel. We are currently a good way into season 2 (and last).

Aside from the fact that Alba is a very attractive woman, I think that she is a fine actress. I think that she did a fine job in the Dark Angel series, and I have no doubt that she could make the role of Sue Storm happen.

Yes, I'm used to the blonde hair too, but we'll see. Maybe they'll dye it.

Here's a nutty thought . . .

Maybe they cast Alba because out of all the auditions, she was the best suited?

So she's not blonde, like in the comic. Get over it. And oh yeah. . .I can COMPLETLEY see Michael Chickliss (sp?) NAILING "The Thing". If you REALLY want to see how wide this guy's range is. . .watch a few episodes of "The Shield". . .THEN see if you can find a few episodes of "The Commish". . .AND THEN look around and see if you can find a movie called "Stooges". It's something of a bio piece that documents the rise and decline of "The Three Stooges". It stars Paul Ben-Victor (of "The Invisible Man") as Moe Howard, and Michael C. as Curly Howard. It's really amazing to see this guy's versatility. Especially when it addresses the family issues and Curly's alcoholism and womanizing problems.

But yeah. . .anyhow. . .I personally am wearied by the constant naysaying done by "purists" who start slamming things before they've even seen so much as a trailer in the theatre. For chrissake. . .give the kid a chance. You don't even have to blow 8 bucks, for cryin' out loud. YOu can download the gorram thing for free the weekend the movie is released. THEN, if you don't like it. . .you didn't waste any money.

***NOTE: I am not advocating, encouraging nor supporting movie piracy. Bootleg movies are illegal, and I personally don't do it. I was just trying to illustrate a point.

BLACKOUTNIGHTS

Jessica Alba as Sue Storm? Hmmmm...hmmmmm...hmmmm...hmmmm. I don't know what to say about that. Aside from the fact she doesn't have the skin, hair or eye matches to the comic character, she doesn't seem old enough to me to be The Invisible Girl.

I agree with whoever said that about Tom Cruise playing Lestat. It's up to Alba and the director to make it work. I'm glad she's getting the opportunity. Now let's hope they just don't blow it. No pun intended.

Other casting choices that bother me: Keanu Reeves as DC's John Constantine and Halle Berry as Catwoman. I wish they'd take a chance on some lesser known actors, and make an attempt to have the actors resemble the characters they are to portray. I think Toby McGuire was a great choice for Peter Parker, and Hugh Jackman (hope I have that name right) is a great Wolverine. Actually, I'm happy with all the X-Men cast. You know, I can't believe how good an actress Anna Paquin is. She doesn't seem like she'd be that good based upon her talk show appearances. Of course, with a big budget, there's enough film (which is the producer's gold) to take and re-take scenes until the shot is acted and seen the way the director wants. Maybe everything will be OK, but I'll probably wait for the DVD for all of these movies.

But not Serenity. Oh no. I'm going to be at the BDM opening night and probably see it again at the matinees either Saturday or Sunday. I get giddy just thinking about it.

"Art is Ego. Art is, 'I think this is good, therefore I'm going to present it to you.' That is Ego. That is the Id. I don't give a fuck what you think. You're either in or you're out, and I'm playing to the in."—Greg Dulli

The clue's in the name.... hence the whole Invisible Woman arc (and that ill-judged possession arc).

I always thought Sue was somewhat younger than Reed.

Not read any Hellblazer, but it strikes me that transferring the story from a Liverpudlian in UK setting to the US may effectively alter the character totally. Yet to see anything other than photos so really don't know what to think of the movie; not a huge fan of Keanu's "range", but we shall see.

JAYNESADDICTION

Jessica Alba is pretty young and while yes contacts and dye could make her a blue eyed blonde, (hell they could color correct every scene with her eyes in it and make them blue as the sky for that matter) but I just don't buy Alba as Sue Storm.

O.K. I think it 's much like Haley Berry being cast as Storm, Berry is small and cute, Storm is tall and statuesque I would have seen Iman playing storm to a tee and not really needing to do much in the way of acting to get the part right. Jessica is in the same boat. I can see Rachel McAddams, but Sue should be a bit more real and attractive than tiny cute hottie (like Alba is) Personally I would rather see Drew Barrymore, Kate Hudson, or Reece Witherspoon, however Hollywood is more worried about getting the horny teens in. Alba is considered hotter (espeically if they can get people to see crap like Honey just cuz she's in it!) and that is why they want hot girl over realistic casting. Personally I think that Spiderman would have been cooler if Kirstin Dunst would have played Gwen Stacey, and then they introduced MJ in Spiderman 2. but that's just my 2 cents.

After all, its mostly a dotted line with grey.

I dunno, is the Invisible Girl an iconic character in the same way that Superman or Peter Parker is? By that I mean, would anyone have dreamed of either of those two characters as blonde? At the point that Cameron was mulling over Spidey, I think DiCaprio was attached (sheesh) - I'm certain he would have dyed his hair.

I genuinely don't know the answer to whether the FF are "icons", but that may therefore answer my own question.

I don't really know the Fantastic Four and so probably can't comment, but in those pics, Jessica Alba doesn't look half bad - she's very hot, that's for sure, but what I mean is that she looks fairly blonde.

I've looked at the casting for the Fantastic Four movie and, having read the comic my entire literary life up to and including the present day (wasn't the recent Doom arc cool? It made him all evil and creepifying again!) I have to say, I hate the casting. EXCEPT. Except for the choice for Reed Richards. They picked the fellow who played horatio hornblower in the recent mini-series. I think, if someone who understands the character explains it to him correctly, he could be a good choice. But the rest of the cast is one BDMistake.

I think Michael Chiklis will pull off a good job of portraying the Thing. However I would most definately agree that Chris Evans and Jessica Alba are poor choices for the role of The Human Torch and Invisible Girl!
