So as with most of you, I caught Firefly the first time around on Fox, fell in love, bought the DVDs, waste time buying brown garments..

Then one day a friend said, hey... you like Firefly? Joss Whedon wrote that.

I said, Josh? I was quick admonished.. And hence, I was introduced to Angel and Buffy. Here's my question.. I've signed up for Netflix.. I'm getting Buffy.. How do people recommend I watch Buffy and Angel? Should I finish all 7 seasons of Buffy and then move on to Angel? Should I watch 3 seasons of Buffy and then alternate? What do the Joss Whedon experts have to say? Thanks for your time!

If you have the time, I'd suggest the first three seasons of Buffy, then starting on Angel. That's how the timeline goes. And if you watch all 7 of Buffy first, you'll be missing out on some of the B/A story line. Also there's a few great crossover episodes you won't want to miss out on /delay...

Be sure not to skip any. Even the not-so-good episodes have something to redeem them, or maybe a bit of important information.

I just recruited my neighbor this way. She is SO hooked. I loan her my dvds and she watches about 5 episodes a day. No small feat when you have a one-year old running around!

Welcome to the Buffyverse!
The ideal would be to watch the first three seasons of BtVS and then try to watch both BtVS and Ats in the order aired...
I know that this site lists the order Ats aired:
http://www.cityofangel.com/episodes/index.html

but most important, don't postpone watching because you can't find the right order...
you need to have fun with it!
I know you are going to be blown away by these shows!

I don't say they are better than Firefly, because they aren't....
but there are individual episodes into which Joss poured his heart and soul.

Enjoy

I have to disagree - the ONLY way to watch them is in the correct order. Anything else is just sacrilege!!

Okay, so is there a website where I can officially find the order or Buffy combined with Angel? Did Angel start at Buffy season 4 or DURINg season 3?

I would suggest watching up to season 3 of Buffy, and then watch a Buffy season 4 ep, then Angel season 1 ep. It's how it was aired (I think) and the crossovers line up all pretty and stuff that way.

I've seen the first 6 seasons of Buffy in full and a scattering of season 7 WITHOUT having seen anymore than season 5 of Angel. I know I've missed out on some plot twists and information and beautiful moments (I Will Remember You, anyone?)...so even though I'm bitter that there are people who can still watch the universe in full with surprises and in order, I want ya'll to enjoy it to it's fullest! Just how Joss would want you to!

CYBERSNARK

It's fairly easy to tell where Angel begins, since they actually make a somewhat major plot point of his leaving Sunnydale.

Okay, because there was a time when I went back and re-watched the crossover eps myself, I've taken a few moments and have compiled this list fer ya. Netflix lists which episodes are on which disc, so here ya go:

Watch all of Buffy, through Season 3, then onto:

Buffy Season 4, Angel Season 1

Start with Angel Season 1.
then watch either show.
Then, in Buffy Season 4, watch "The Harsh Light of Day"
Then go to "In the Dark" on AS1.
back to either show...
Then watch "The Bachelor Party" AS1.
Then watch "Pangs" BS4.
Then watch "I Will Remember You" BS4.
back to either show...
Then watch the BS4 2-parters, "This Year's Girl" and "Who Are You."
Then watch AS1 "Five by Five"
Then watch AS1 "Sanctuary"
Then watch BS4 "The Yoko Factor" and finish the Buffy season.
Then go back to Angel and finish the season.

Buffy Season 5, Angel Season 2

Start with either show until you reach BS5 episode "Fool for Love" which touches on Spike's history.
Then go to AS2 "Darla"
Then watch AS2 "Disharmony"
Then watch BS5 "Forever"
Then finish the Buffy season before watching the finale of the Angel season, "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb"

Watch all of Angel Season 3 and Buffy Season 6. No crossovers. The WB and UPN were mad at each other.

Buffy Season 7 (when it comes on DVD, Nov. 16), Angel Season 4

Watch all of AS4 up to and including the episode "Orpheus"
Then watch BS7 "Dirty Girls" (and look for Capt. Mal!)
Then finish watching both seasons, and be sure to watch the Buffy series finale in Season 7 before you start on Angel Season 5 (when it comes on DVD).

Then watch and enjoy Season 5 of Angel, and cry when it's over!!

No problem! Because there are so many crossovers it's easy to miss out on good stuff. Just make sure you write the list down so that when it comes time to rent everything, you know which discs to get!
