The Drudge Report is claiming christopher Reeve has died!

Nikki Finke in Los Angeles is reporting that actor Christopher Reeve is dead, according to sources close to the actor. He died suddenly Sunday. News of his death has not been reported publicly yet. His family will make an announcement Monday at the earliest. Reeve was just mentioned Friday in the second live presidential debate by John Kerry. Noting he was a friend of the paralysed Reeve, Kerry said he was in favor of further stem cell research because Reeve could walk again one day thanks to such science.... MORE...

God, I hope it is not true!

I'm so very heartbroken to hear this news. I always imagined a day when Christopher Reeve would walk again... because if anyone could come back after such an injury, it would be he.

He endured so much and had such a strong spirit. Even though he is no longer with us in person, his presence will keep being felt.

Good night Chris. You'll always be our Superman.

QUOTE

Chris Reeeve was trying to raise money for medical research for SCI and other nerve tissue related injuries and diseases. He lobbies the government for SCI research funding and funding for for stem cell research. The actor, who found film fame as "Superman," had told Britain's Guardian newspaper the Bush Administration had caved in on the issue of embryonic stem cell research .

GW
he had some right-wing ideas on stopping stem cell research

Reeve, paralyzed seven years ago when he was thrown from his horse, said he was "angry, and disappointed," that Bush had hampered developments in stem cell research which might have led to human trials aimed at rebuilding the nervous systems of quadriplegics.

"I think we could have been much further along with scientific research than we actually are," he said.

"There are religious groups -- the Jehovah's Witness, I believe -- who think it's a sin to have a blood transfusion. Well, what if the president for some reason decided to listen to them, instead of to the Pope, which is the group he really listens to in making his decisions about embryonic stem cell research ? Reeve was saying.

From what I have read about him, Christopher Reeve was politically active in high school, protesting the Vietnam War then went to Cornell and became involved in environmental issues as well. As an adult, he has championed First Amendment issues and funding for the arts, and is active in Amnesty International, Save the Children, The National Resources Defense Council, The Lindbergh Foundation and others

Embryonic stem cell researchers hope these microscopic blobs might be coaxed to grow into healthy aortas for people with heart disease, and into pristine spinal chords for the actor Christopher Reeves, whose backbone was shattered in accident, leaving him paralyzed.
Geroge Bush had rejected the views of a large majority in the Senate, his health senator (Bill Frist of Tennessee), Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, former First Lady Nancy Reagan and actor Christopher Reeves. They all favored limited research on cells

Reeve was wonderfully active in groups like save the children he was a fantastic actor and filled the starring role of 'Superman' , I think his best film may have been Superman-2 but he also starred in other good movies like Village of the Damned , Speechless and Above Suspicion

he will be sadly missed

.

he fought a courageous fight to the very end
God bless

First Rodney Dangerfield, now Christopher Reeve. It's been a sad week for entertainment. I was always looking forward to when Reev would walk again. He seemed so certain that he could do it.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

You know I only caught Christopher Reeves name on the news this morning, but part of me just knew it would be news that he was making progress toward walking again. I never dreamed it would be such tragic news as his death.

Keep flyin' Superman.

This is tough to take. Chris Reeve was one of my heroes. To lose him on the heels of losing another hero last week (astronaut Gordon Cooper) just really depresses me.

Like someone else here said, I was looking forward to seeing him walk again.

Superherohype.com has a tribute page to Mr. Reeve and it has a really great quote at the end of the article.

If there is a heaven, Christopher Reeve is up there now soaring higher than Superman ever could.

So true, so very true!

Definately tragic.

My favorite quote that pays tribute to Christopher Reeve appears in the beginning of the tradepaperback Kingdom Come. Created by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, it says

"Dedicated to Christopher Reeve, who made us believe that men can fly"
