okay, so over the weekend i got to take a gander at the pilot movie for stargate: SG-1 on DVD. not bad. it was pretty enjoyable. what channel does the show air on? it cannot be sci-fi channel because of the.... ahem.... more "adult" scenes. anyway, is it worth continuing with the series? my friend has season 1 on DVD. i am wondering if i should borrow it and make a weekend of it.

Stargate SG1 is entering its 8th season on SciFi.

Some will tell you that it's horrible. I will tell you that I look forward to Stargate Mondays and Fridays. I enjoy the series a lot.

The movie version has Kurt Russell which is reason enough to own it. The scene where Jack O'Neil is smoking (read 'making love with') the cigarette made me go out into the streets this summer and bum a smoke off a neighbor -- and I don't even smoke!!!

Lots of folks hate Richard Dean Anderson as O'Neil. Again, I adore RDA's version of Jack and laugh my ass off whenever he's delivering his lines.

I enjoy Stargate SG1 and am giving Atlantis a fair shot at my dollar.

It's entertaining, and enjoyable. IMO, the episodes are rarely truly bad (1 or 2 on a 1-10 scale) or mediocre (4-5), but also few which are truly stellar either (9-10). To me it is very consistant in acheiving good (6-8) quality.

With some of the terrible shows out there, I look forward to something that will almost always be "good" if rarely exceptional, rather than something that is sometimes great sometimes mediocre, but rarely just good.

It's worth borrowing/renting the first couple of seasons to see if you'll like it.

"Does that seem right to you?"

i used to have the movie on tape until my VCR ate it. anyway, my absolute favorite scene in that movie is when the pyramid ship first lands on the building with the stargate and the commandos are trapped inside while RA's minions come and take them out. i ABSOLUTELY LOVE the reveal for the anubis head guys. when the one soldier is on the ground and he looks up and you get a profile of the bad guy as he turns toward him with the glowing BLUE eyes! one of the BEST villain reveals in my opinion! i LOVED it!

BTW, in the SG-1 pilot, i had to laugh at the "macgyver it" comment. that HAD to be ad-libbed.

What "Adult" scenes are you reffering to? I know there are a few scenes where nudity was hinted at, are those scenes fully shown on the DVD version?

ah, yeah. the scene where the alien guy is going to let his "wife" impregnate daniel's wife. she spends most of the scene without her clothes on and you get more than one unobstructed look. no creative set design, no cutting off the frame. i always thought the show was on sci-fi channel, so they do not show things like that, right? then i thought, maybe it was on showtime or something like that. but in answer to your question, yes, the scene is completely unedited in the DVD version. seemed unecessary from my point of view but, hey, what the heck do i know?

The tv movie/pilot was originally shown on Showtime (as were the first 5 seasons), hence the gratuitous nudity.

Adult scenes on SG-1 ?? Did Carter get busy and I missed it? Sure you're not confusing SG-1 with Desperate Housewives ?

uh, no. i have never watched desperate housewives. not really my kind of show. remember, i was viewing the DVD release. someone said that the show originally aired on showtime, which, being a premium channel, could do things like that.

Unfortunately, they are. I downloaded the first ep off Bittorrent just so I could remaster it back to a PG-13 rating. I have many friends I want to get into the show, but you can't skip the pilot & I don't want to show "that" to a bunch of teenagers, especially since I'm one of the youth leaders in church.
