...the story was just as good as I remembered the first time I saw it on TV, but the DVD quality SUCKS! First off, if I didn;t know what it was beforehand the cover would NOT have made me want to get it. Very bland and the portraits of the people look like they want to be anywhere but there. Second, there is no artwork on the DVD, not even a blank label or anything. Very cheap. Lastly, the quality of the video itself is very grainy. Not good quality. Luckily the story kept me so engrossed that I only really noticed it on a few scenes. I was not impressed. What a waste of a good series. At least they kept it widescreen. Hopefully the release of season 1 will have a little more money behind it.

The grainy look is intentional, I think, in keeping with the hand held camera. Lack of artwork on the disks annoys the s@*t outta me too, but it seems to be a rush job.
My guess is there was a snafu and putting a picture on would've delayed release, and nobody wants that.
All in all I'm happy with mine, though the presentation could be a bit more professional.

Note: the effects were done by those that did Firefly, canya tell?
And am I the only one that can't stand sound in space?? Thank the Lords of Kobol that BG at least tones it down a little!

uh-oh, Cylons, gotta hit turbo.

Which version did you buy? I personally loved the cover, the quality was good, although I would have liked the deleted scenes intigrated.

Sniper, I wasn't aware there more than one version.(?)
Mine has two discs and no art on either- jus' some tiny writin' round the holes. On each, one side plays the movie or extras, and the other is blank.
And I agree, the deleted scenes should be optional sos you can see 'em in the movie.
If I turn brightness or picture too high it gets real grainy- but I like my space pitch black anyway.

Keep the shiny side up
(on the BG dvd that'd be both.)

I dunno where you got your copy... mine came from amazon.com; it has only one dual-sided disc. The picture quility is great, as is the sound. Although I understand the miniseries was filmed, whereas the series was shot digitally. If you got yours from eBay, you might have a clever but illegally copied version.

I love that faerie dancing...
I got mine from Wal-mart the first day it was available. Maybe it was put out just to get it out, then they switched from 2 discs to 1 to save money...
I've seen boots, and this ain't it.
But tell me, isn't yours even a little grainy- lookin' during dim light indoor shots? I don't mean to the point of distraction, jus' kinda documentary- like?

I'll hush and await your pearls.

Well, it was not really grainy to me, but I was watching it on my little 21 inch TV. Are you viewing it on HD or something?

Watchin' on a very good 27" with componant video connection, looks better than on my computer!
Drawback is, grain, pixilation and edge enhancement become all the more visible for it.
I don't even want HD! I'd be seein' grain and artifacts and s@*t like never before.
Newly shot digital would look great, but most of my collection is transferred from old fashioned celluloid- if you're like me(OVER 30)save your money 'cause all the old stuff looks as good as it ever will without HD. That's for the kids.
Sermon over.

I bought mine from Best Buy and it is 1 disc, I guess there is something on both sides. I don't think the grain is intentional to make it look documentary or anything. All sorts of shows use hand-held style now, whether it is called for or not. I think you can thank NYPD Blue for that one. I noticed the low quality picture throughout, but it was REALLY apparent on that greenhouse type ship with the little girl on it. Watch that scene again and just notice the grain. It was so bad as to be distracting. The rest of the show wasn't as bad as that, but it was still there. I would say that the CG shots were the cleanest.

Thanks for the imput. Yeah, you're right about that scene.
I'm okay with the quality, though.
As long as there's no grainy stuff on my FIREFLY discs!!(and there ain't, S H I N Y! )

Does anyone out there know when the first series will be released on dvd? I haven't heard any kind of timeframe, just some people saying "soon". I would imagine it would be released before season 2 airs "sometime this summer" (whenever that is) but I am looking for a little more concrete info.

ICCLEDAMES

As far as I know (and I can't say for sure) the Region 1 DVD is two disc and has the deleted scenes. The Region 2 DVD (also Region 4 compatible) is single-disc and has no deleted scenes - though it does have a documentary.

The first series came out last week on Region 2. Got it a couple of days after release and am impressed apart from the fact that while the deleted scenes are there, you have to watch all of them in one go - you can't simply select a scene to watch.

BG season 1 is available in the UK as I type this, and since we're about 6 months or so behind them in the broadcast of the series it would be logical to assume the same for the release of the dvds.
I know, it's not concrete or anything...

That's more info than I knew before. I tried to see if Amazon had anything about when it might come out but it's not even listed, just the miniseries and old series was there.
