If you had a hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket which season would you get?
But only 1!

Me personally, season 7. It had "All good things"...

I think the 4th or 5th seasons were the peak...
here is a good site:
http://stng.36el.com/
which would let you review each season in detail,
so you could make an informed decision.

good luck!

If I had some spare money burning a hole in my pocket, there's no way I'd buy any Star Trek DVD. I'd spend it on a new pair of trousers instead.

Yep..........................that went well!

Wow, a hundred bucks. Assuming I didn't spend it on gas to drive to the video store, I think I'd forget STNG and buy something I need, like Season 5 of Babylon 5 (I managed to recored the first 4, but they screwed up season 5's order so I didn't record it).

Or, the original Battlestar Galactica series.

Or, a couple copies of Firefly to send to family and friends.

Or, Seasons 1 and 2 of Gilmore Girls (for Mom's birthday).

Or, a new computer game.

Or, taking my dog to the vet. He needs his shots and heartworm treatment.

Or, some new pants.

Or, 100 double cheeseburgers from McDonalds (enough to share).

Or, 25 shares of Rite Aid stock.

The list is endless.

Not sure, it would probably be 3,4, or 5. I loved TNG but the only ones I've been buying on DVD are Deep Space Nine. And in case you have not noticed there are a lot of Star Trek bashers on this site, so it might not be the best place to get a trek dialogue going. You'll wind up arguing more than discussing.

I noticed about the Trek bashers. Although Firefly is my current favourite series of all time, my first love was Star Trek, original and TNG.
So bring it on, 'cause I say there's room for different likes in this 'verse.
May not end up on the winnin' side here, still not convinced it's the wrong one.

I wasn't impressed with ST:TNG until season three (though the first appearance of the Borg in season two was cool as was the ep where Data goes on trial for his very freedom from the same season).

For me, season three was where TNG started hitting the ball out of the park with every new episode. Parking our butts in front of the TV on Saturday nights at 7pm became the weekly ritual of my college roomies and myself (along with The Simpsons and Twin Peaks... it's amazing we got any work done at all). TNG remained solid for seasons four and five but wained somewhat (not much) the final two years.

So, for nostalgic reasons, I would suggest picking up TNG season three.

The ep where Data goes on trial is one of my all time faves.

I did pick up the Jean- Luc Picard collection, 7 really good (and great) eps from all seasons, and while the shows are top notch, it seems to me the transfers are somewhat, I dunno...they look soft, as if the series was shot on film, then transferred to video for editing and effects, and the dvd is using that video, not film, master.
Is this the case?
Does anyone else have any problem with TNG on dvd?
This is the first time I've seen the series on dvd, however, the movies look fabulous...(especially First Contact)

I wouldn't even think of shelling out a C-note for a whole season if it's the same quality as the Picard Collection, but for $22 I won't complain about that one.

Hey, don't say anything bad about ENTERPRISE, it's not a bad show, it just has totally the wrong look for a series that predates the original, and tends to ignore the Trek timeline, and tells stories that are derivitive, and...

okay. it's not so good....

But Scott is cool!

2 and 3 are the only seasons I really like, and I felt it went downhill after that. Not the popular opinion, I know, but it seems like they took more risks in the early episodes and were experimenting with arc-building. From season 4 on, I felt all serious attempts at developing characters were abandoned in favor of stand-alone stories. Many of those stand-alone episodes were very good, but ultimately left me thinking "so what?" at the end.

I'm a trekker first, and a browncoat only somewhere thereafter.

I could probably find a lot more flaws with trek than with ff, but also a lot more things that I like better. Though I don't really like to compare them seeing how they are so different.

DS9 is my fave trek.

That makes sense. Season 2 happened during a TV writer's strike. Scab writers were brought in to crank out episodes so there may have been a less rigid environment in the interest of getting screenplays before the camera. Halting production wasn't an option for I believe it would have voided the seven year contracts the key actors had signed.

Oh, eventually they'll have a Wesley Crusher collection, it's all a matter of time.
I'm lookin' foward to a Borg collection myself...
