There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

Pardon my ignorance, but I never got into Buffy until after I was a Firefly fan. I have recently finished watching season 5, and I know that was the last one for the WB. What I want to know is if Joss ended it the way he did because he thought there would be no more Buffy after that, or do you think he already had a notion of how he would continue the story from there?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, so if anyone knows for sure I would appreciate an answer, but please, no spoilers for season 6 and 7. Thanks.

Joss already had it planned, long before he knew they wouldn't be on The WB anymore.

In the season 3 episode Grad. Day, when she's sharing a dream with Faith, there's a reference to it: "Oh yeah. - Miles to go - Little Ms. Muffet counting down from 7-3-0."

From that episode, there was exactly two years to go. 730 days.

Then, in Restless during Buffy's dream, she looks at the clock and it reads 7:30. She says, "it's so late" and Tara replies, "Oh ... that clock's completely wrong."

So what's your verdict on the show as a whole?

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. If the countdown was for 730 days from the end of season 3, then that brings us to the end of season 5. How does that say anything about the years after that?

As for my assessment of the series, it has kept my interest so far, and I intend to continue on as soon as possible, after watching season 2 of Angel. It is better than most other shows around, but IMO no where near as good as Firefly (or at least as good as I know Firefly would have become given the chance).

Sorry, I thought you meant was what happens in the season 5 finale planned or a result of the WB no longer continuing with the show.

Season 5 was definitely planned well in advance. Joss has said that he always planned there to be story after that... I've got no reason to doubt him.

IMO, the main metaphor in season 6 is very powerful and probably the best from the whole show. A lot of people either didn't get it or didn't like it, though.

It may be powerful, but that's no reason for the writers to bash people over the head with it ;)

Then again it may not be so powerful and we're just left with bashed heads. I say this because (and it's just my opinion) I think given what they were trying to do with S6 was so badly handled that there was really no power in the metaphor(s)in the first place.

I'm interested in ecgordon's opinion of the controversial S6. Will s/he be an Anti-Sixer or a Pro-Sixer? Only time (and ecgordon) will tell.

I'll be curious to see what ECGORDON thinks about S6 also. It is without a doubt one of my favorite seasons of the series. Plus it has IMO THE best episode of tv I have ever seen, Once More With Feeling.

Someone needs to organise a con purely so the Pro-Sixers and Anti-Sixers can have it out in one big weekend long ruck ;)

Don't forget the pro/con Angel S4 discussion.

An Anti-Six, Pro-Six confontation would be a bloodbath! Gotta add that for me, OMWF and "Tabula Rasa" get excused from Six-bashing.

Doesn't seem to me that S4 of ANGEL is as divisive as S6 of BUFFY. But I'm sure there's enough dispute about ANGEL S4 to make for a nice collision.

Then there's the Anti-SixandSeveners vs. the Pro-SixandSeveners vs. Anti-Sixer/Pro-Seveners vs. the Pro-Sixer/Anti-Seveners! No one comes out alive!

Anybody who is Anti any of Seasons 1-5 will have to stage their own confrontation.

Last I heard Whedon planned every season of Buffy as if it could be the last. Though I really don't see how that could work with Season 4 or Season 6. Perhaps that's why I don't like them. The ending wasn't a big ending it was just a wimper. Season 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 ended on a note of "wow that was huge".

I think Joss has said the 4 is an exception. But I agree with you about 6. It doesn't have a "series finale" feel to me either.

Well, the difference with six was that they had just signed a definite TWO year deal with UPN, so they KNEW they were coming back for season 7. I don't think Joss ever had that kind of absolute assurance when they were on the WB.

Apathy on the Rise. No One Cares.
