I had said in another thread that S4 was my favourite, but I was watchin' some S3 the other day, and I have to say, that seems to be my favourite now. I's mostly 'cause of the funny. S4 was real exciting and such, but S3 made me laugh more...and that's what I first liked Buffy for, anyway.

Anybody else had a change of heart over time as to their favourite season?
Or could we just make this a 'What's your favourite season' thread, there hasn't been one in a while, right?

They usually end up being season ranking threads. I think if you trawled back through this board you'd find I post the same thing every time ;)

2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 6

I feel two has the strongest overall story (with lots of amusing little asides along the way) and uses the characters in a nice, even manner throughout, never concentrating too heavily on one character and never excluding anyone either.

I agree that S2 was VERY strong, and Xander has some of his funniest one-liners, however the look bothers me a lot; being shot on 16mm plays havock with the transfer, and just plain looks muddy and grainy. I know I should try to not pay attention to it, but I'm a visual person, so for me, it really distracts.

It had been a while since I watched my BUFFY DVD's. A few weeks ago I was watching S5, and somewhere in the middle of it I was thinking "Hmm, maybe I like S4 more". But by the end I was satisfied with what my ranking has always been. 3,2,5,4,1,7,6.

3 and 2 is a tough choice, but for me 3 gets the nod because...I'm trying to find the words...the show is firing on all cylinders throughout the entire season. The arc, the humour, the drama. I really think it's the strongest season of writing--it's the season that overall is the most Artful and (as you can see) that's art with a capital "A". And I feel that's because of the character development. Watching and BELIEVING the turning of Faith is...well you just don't see something like that done that well in either TV or movies very often. And there's the effect Faith has on Buffy and all that good stuff and Faith's relationship with the Mayor...In the meantime you've also got "Band Candy , "Doppelgangland", "The Wish", "The Zeppo", "Earshot", "The Prom" and the list goes on.

2 obviously has a lot of these qualities going for it too, but I think 3 has more of it--it's tighter than 2. But I can completely understand why someone would prefer 2.

So Chris, have you started Season 5 yet? Huh? Huh?

Grounded, I'm one of those who loved season 6 the best. Then season 3.

I think it has to do with what you are looking for emotionally in the series.

Season 6 will always be my favorite.

Season 2 is still my favorite. There is still a lot of talk about those monster of the week episodes ruining it, but I like those monster of the week eps. Sure they may be a bit goofy, but they are always fun. Season 5 is a close second. I'm not gonna ruin anything for those who haven't seen it yet, but I will say it shows Buffy in a completely different light. Oh, and it's really sad, and as we all know Buffy and sadness are like peanut butter and jelly.

There is a really cool rumor going around. It states that in 2007, all the seasons of Buffy are going to be re-released on dvd, with 5.1 dolby digital, and re-mastered picture. If it is true I will be both happy, and sad. I don't wanna buy all the frikkin sets again.

God I hope it's true. I haven't gotten around to buying the DVD sets yet, and now I'll probably put it off even further.

Oh, and 3,2,5,4,6,1,7

For me, it's 3, no question. All of what was said before was true about it. Flawless.

But I must interject, that in the entire run of the series, that absolutely nothing has topped the season ender for 2: Becoming. Especially the second half.

Spectacular. And so, so Joss.

I'm pretty dubious about that because:

a) it was the original filming on 16mm that did for the picture quality and
b) if they were going to remaster, they'd probably do it for the new Hi-Def DVD formats coming out.

M,B@TT, I thought Season 2 was my favourite but ultimate Season 3 pips it. There's way too many classic episodes in there, the whole Faith arc plus the best Big Bad that Buffy ever had in the Mayor. I also was fairly harsh to Season 5 at the time but now it is back in my good graces.

I have no problem with taking a season to do a really strong emotional arc. I just don't think they did it very well with S6.

I guess that is why it's called art. It's something personal that touch you. And season 6 really worked for me. It was Buffy grown up.

Not yet, but where I live (a college town) used sets pop up regularly at the record store, it's just a matter of time (I got a call that they got S4 in, I said NOT 4, 5!!!)

Laying in wait Chrisisall

I just noticed you said you were watching some S3 the other day - does that mean you were watching a rerun on TV or did you actually keep that set instead of selling it off to further your addiction? ;)

Please note that it's just a rumor. I wouldn't put too much stock in it until we see an actual confirmed street date. The guys at my local comicbook shop(where I heard about it)aren't always 100% accurate on matters of future dvd releases, but their track record isn't too shabby.

Grounded, season 3 grew these hideous roots that entwined themselves all through the bookcase where I keep my dvd's, and I can't get the box out of there!!! I can only take out the disks to watch them, so I guess that season is gonna stay in my permanent collection, I have no choice!!!!
Seriously, S3 is a work of art, it's the one I have to keep. All others will be in my 'expensive extended rental' category.;) The whole Faith/Mayor thing is such a hoot and a half!

My line-up would be;

2,3,1,5,7,4,6

I'm in the minority here but I really liked 5, and wasn't a big fan of 4. It may have to do with the big bad of season 4, I just couldn't get into the initiative, or Adam, or the professor, although Hush kicked butt.

Am I the only one severly bothered by the crappy quality of the picture on the dvd's for seasons 1 and 2? I know it was because it was shot in 16mm back then, but Ugggh, what muddyness!!

I prefer the way S1 and S2 look - after that the colours get all uber-bright and the sets start to look more and more set-like. Sharpness isn't everything.

I am also one of the few who REALLY liked S6. I loved seasons 2,3,4, and 6 so much it is hard for me to rank them. I will say that when I just randomly pick out a buffy season to watch it is usually either 4 or 6. But I'm going to stick with my usual rankings: S3,S2,S6,S4,S5,S7,S1

It's so hard to put them in order but my list is usually 2,3,6,5,7,4,1. Despite a few of my favourite episodes being in 4, I just didn't get the whole Riley thing. Season 1 is last only because I couldn't put any of the others last. There were still teething troubles with 1 but the potential was there. I started watching during season 6 and I will always have a soft spot for it. That and Once More With Feeling puts it higher up!!
