I've made up my mind, I'm getting Buffy at the very first opportunity.

Any advice for a first time watcher?

Why is the rum always gone?

Uh, watch it from Welcome to the Hellmouth, to Chosen in the order it comes on the DVDs? Honestly, I've got no advice, except watch it from begining to end.

Just understand that the first season is, like, the weakest one. Withold judgement until sometime in the second.

My advice: Listen. Learn. Cry. Laugh (your ass off!).

I don't necessarily agree with Chrisisall's opinion of Season 1. If you're not taken in by "Welcome to the Hellmouth", "The Harvest", "Angel", and "Prophecy Girl", Season 2 and the rest won't matter much either!

"It eats you. Starting with your bottom."

Sorry, you won't understand that quote until Episode 129, in Season 7.

You can play "Spot the Future Stars" while you watch! 'Prison Break' stars Wentworth Miller and Wade Williams appeared, as did Acadamy-Award-Nominated-for-'Junebug' actress Amy Adams.

Edit: I forgot about Clea DuVall of 'Heroes' and Amber Tamblyn of 'Joan of Arcadia'. There are probably more of which I am unaware.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that one of the best, if not THEE best future star, at least to some of us, doesn't show up until the last five eps. of Season 7.

I just meant that season one has the most 'meh' eps. The good ones are good, but Bad Eggs?

"Bad Eggs" was in season two actually.

And I have to agree. If you're not hooked by season one, it probably won't happen. Though some of the best episodes of the series are in season two, but that's my opinion.

By the way, if you can catch a good deal on it, get the Chosen Collection. And if you find yourself becoming a David Boreanaz fan, be sure to check out Angel (the series). Though be warned, you'll have to do some juggling to watch the episodes of both series in the right order (there's a lot of crossovers).

Okay, shutting up now. Happy watching!

And on 'Angel', there's Josh Holloway, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sam Anderson of 'Lost'.

I'm one of those who says if you're not blown away by S1, don't give up on it 'til you watch (at least half of) S2. 1 is the weakest (along with 7)--the writers and cast hadn't really figured out yet what the show 'should' be, and while it had the monsters and humor of later seasons, the really great drama was, for the most part, missing ("Angel" and "Prophecy Girl" being the exceptions).

And I'll take Chris' statement about S1 and apply it to S2--the great eps are as good as they get, but the bad eps are really bad ("Some Assembly Required", "Inca Mummy Girl", "Reptile Boy", "Go Fish")...

There are those who would argue that Daniel Dae Kim was already well-known before Angel. Those of us who remember the Crusade. . .

well, bought the season1, and I love it!!! I have two eps left to watch. One question, though, why so many references to Nazi Germany?

If you can't tell me without spoiling something big, just say so.

No particular reason. There's no Nazi plotlines in Buffy.

I just finished watching S1 w/a friend who has never seen it before... and I don't recall, what references to Nazi Germany?

I'm really glad you are enjoying it, because you'll like S2 even more! (wasn't The Pack great? That is my favorite S1 episode)

there are plenty, in "Witch" when Willow and Buffy are talking about Amy's mother the following is said:

Willow: "Her mom's kinda…"

Buffy: "Nazi-like?"

Willow: "Heil "

then in "I Robot... you Jane" a kid who is freaking out about his hacked report says something like:

Nazi Germany was a model of a perfect civilization?! I didn't write this!

then in "The Puppet Show" Giles refers to their new principal as "our new Fuhrer"

Finally (at least as my memory is concerned, plus I haven't watched "Prophecy Girl" yet) in "Nightmares" when Xander enters a hallway during his living nightmare about clowns (And who can blame him?) there are Swastikas all over the place.

yeah it was but I really like Witch if only for the quote "For I am Xander, King of Cretins, may all lesser cretins bow before me"

I guess nazis and Adolf are probably just well-known enough that they make good references when comparing totalitarian societies and evil dictators. I don't think Buffy is unique in this...
