Hey!

We're a small team of game developers from Norway. Several of us are huge fans of Firefly and we are considering to make a Firefly adventure game. It will probably be an old fashioned point and click game.

If we make it, it will be distributed for free, of course, since we don't have access to the license.

As we all know, the dialogue is a huge part of Firefly and we're sucky writers. So we thought we'd ask you guys. We've noticed that this site is full of fanfic and we were wondering if some of you would be okay with us using it in our game? Perhaps entire stories or just snippets of dialogue and/or plots.

We're also very interested in reference material. Especially overview pictures of Serenity's insides. We've seen the blueprints that were released and the cut-away and will be using them as reference, but we need more. Actual overview photos of the set would be awesome. We've been through thousands of images on google, but haven't found exactly what we've been looking for.

So we were hoping that you guys might be so kind and help us out :)

Special thanks in the credits and beta testing will be awarded to all those providing material we end up using or find useful :)

Faster would be better ;)

Hmm. Well, getting ahold of all the people who wrote fanfics might be a tad impossible, as some who wrote them have not posted here in years, and some people here are pretty shy, but you could try IMing the authors that you want to use, since I doubt you'll be using something from EVERYONE... and those ya can't you could always slightly alter for your purposes anyway...

That said, you aren't making monies, and aren't using the works in any way derogatorily, so I don't see any legal issues, but watching "The People's Court" for a decade doesn't make me an expert, exactly :wink: I would still be very careful not to use copywrited art, that has been "inspired by" FF, and sold commercially- obviously.

All that said, most folk here are happy to contribute to the cause, usually. I would bump this post for a week or two and consider that given notice, and anyone who doesn't want their works used could always object if they wanted...

Are you in contact with any of the other posters that come in here from Norway? If not, I'll see if I can find that thread... Norway has been bumped up on my list of countries that contain shiny folk, of late :wink:

We will be making our own art for the game. The pictures we're looking for are just for reference. To make sure we get every aspect of Serenity just right :)

I'll look for the norwegian thread and thanks for the IM tip :) We'll take all the help we can get :)

Do you know about still flying.net ? Not sure about the exact punctuation and spelling of the URL, but they've got COMPLETE screen cap sets for all the episodes. Invaluable for reference purposes. Biggest weakness is that Joss did moody lighting, and everything I've ever wanted to check was in the darkness.

Hey there. I'm George, the head writer over at stillflying.net. We did a fanfic continuation of the series, during which we wrote almost 30 full-length episodes (we finished out Season One with 7 episodes, then did a full 22-episode Season Two.) Although we adapted a lot of Joss's other work (eg, SERENITY and THOSE LEFT BEHIND), you'll probably find well over a thousand pages of new dialogue. Feel free to pillage and plunder.

Yeah, we just can't help it :P

We've decided to have episodic content in our game, trying to make them like episodes of a TV-show.

And we have also started to flesh out the background story and line of events throughout our first episode and are making some simple art for an early prototype :)
