Finally got around to seeing this. I thought it was pretty amazing. Sure, some trippy mind warping has to be done and disbelief suspended, but once I was over McConaughey's whispered delivery (what the eff did he say???) and was won over by the concept I was able to overlook some other bumps and enjoy the ride. Like the robots: at first I thought their design was a mistake, both physically and their AI. Then they complete worked.
It also helped me to read a synopsis afterwards just to seal all the cracks:

The movie was totally miscast. I turned it off about 15 or 20 minutes in. McConaughey destroyed the movie with his whispering. It was impossible to watch because I had to turn the volume up so loud the rest of movie blasted me out of the house. The director and editor had to realize this when watching rushes. Why in god did they let it stand?

Seemed fine to me when I was at the movie theatre, which is the best place to watch such a movie.

I agree, haven't had the desire to watch it again, for that reason alone.

Maybe I was just enthralled w/ the whole concept, and let stuff like that slide, but I know I enjoyed the heck out of it, despite some of the obvious plot flaws , or issues I had w/ the story. Even so, I felt a bit drained, coming out of the theatre, and knew it wasn't something I'd hurry back and re-watch. And I haven't, since it came out. My mind was sufficiently blown, so there's no need to revisit it all again.

You were there rappy. In theaters I'm sure it was a much better experience. At home though, not so much.

Sounds like the DVD sound got messed up, because it was fine for me in the cinema as well.

I had no idea DVDs could be screwed up, but then saw how one season of Buffy was completely botched , that seems likely.

Some people think the Mastering process is easy and simple, so they royally hose it up. I have some CDs with awesome music, but the digital copy makes the work really hard to listen to.
It bothers me more because I used to do some recording, and I abide by the rules of Maximum Headroom.

I was watching it on Amazon so the problem was not because of a bad DVD. It was his stupid whispering.

Fair enough, it was his stupid whispering.

Is there a closed caption option ? Or did you try that as well, and it just read ' whispering ' ?

heh - Cooper: Mumbles. Cooper: Mumbles again. Cooper: incoherent noises

I agree with the thought that SURELY people should have noticed in the dailies, etc.

Something else just to add to it - home audio varies widely, even amongst quality, so-called home theaters. There has been a lot of advances and just changes so the problem for a distributor/studio is one size definitely doesn't fit all. but that's pretty much how they ship dvds and blurays - not many options. I have problems listening to sports on some tvs - it's like all crowd noise and the commentators are very hard to hear. I end up turning it way up so I can hear them, and then I get sick of the volume so I turn it down. I have played with the audio options endlessly. Bass up and down with treble up and down. Surround on/off with bass up and treble down - on and on - almost every possible configuration. It got so bad I went to contact FOX online to complain (of course!) and that was their top FAQ! Their suggestions helped but only a bit. It's really not their problem though - just too many systems.

In case anybody is under the delusion that you make reasonable posts, let me clarify:
The Mastering process makes ALL of the DVDs bad, dumba$$.
It sounds like the sound tracks balance was screwed during the Master.
How do you think Amazon played it for you? Do you really think Amazon went out and filmed it anew? Or can you understand that they likely streamed playback from a DVD source?

You have no business calling anyone on this site a dumbass. Sometimes I have to read your posts several times trying to make sense of them. You are now going on the list that includes PirateNews as someone I won't bother reading anymore. I won't read or respond to any thread you create, and if I see your name in a thread I'm scrolling right through it.

Didn't think of closed caption rap I was so pissed off. Who knows, I may try that if I get another chance to watch it. I gave up my Amazon prime because I was having to drive to the post office to pick up what I ordered from them.

Looks like you 2 are correct. I checked back and found that my post did not adequately specify or explain the Mastering concept, or how it causes hosed up DVD recording and subsequent playback. I had thought I had included that, but sometimes I find that my edits did not take.

Your objections are well-founded, and I thank you for pointing out my mistake.
