AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Dangerous stuff, going back that far and trying to revive something awesome.

RS didn't do all that much to instill confidence in me w/ Prometheus. And while I think Harrison Ford was fine in SW- TFA, the last Indy movie... ouch.

Hope they all get this one right.

Realistically, what sci-fi fan will be able to avoid this one?

I'll see it, but my expectations are very high.
Honestly, probably too high.

So, what's everyone's preference...Deckard a replicant or not?

Mine is he's human.

I'm surprised Harrison Ford is in it because all he's ever done for the last 35 years is trash Blade Runner whenever he's asked about it. He can't possibly need the money, so maybe he's in it because he liked the script.

The most compelling character in the original was Roy Batty. I don't see how any actor could ever even come close to that performance. Rachel was mesmerizing as well. Batty's dead, but Rachel, who knows.

Well, he ain't gonna be in any more Star Wars movies, so he's probably taking whatever job he can get.

Seriously, I'm guessing they're throwing quite a bit of $$ his way.
Hopefully it's also because it's a good script.

DREAMTROVE

I have a simple model for this: It's the team. Joss Whedon is awesome, but a team made Firefly, Buffy, etc. If you were to reassemble it with a different team, then things fall apart.

Ford was fine in the last Star Wars, but it was a mess, as a movie. Indy 4, was an epic mess. This is because Lucas and Spielberg were also a team, and had a team. And Ridley Scott and Philip K Dick and everyone who worked with them.

Things fall apart. Prometheus was an utter disaster, a worse afront to the Alien franchise then Fincher's Alien3 (had it's moments, but at points, definitely not consistent.) I didn't see AVP, people trashed it to me, and so it ended up low on the list of things to see. I saw Prometheus in the theater. The great reveal is always a mistake because it's always something much dumber than the fans have already thought of.

Bladerunner II, is it from the book? Not Dick's book of course, there was no time for that. But someone did write one.

The best way to do this one is to recognize it for what it was. If you dig into the tropes that make it tick, and deliver for the audience that grew up with it, and pull in a younger audience, not by pandering, but with the same immersive world, then it could work. The number of ways they could screw it up are infinite.

Deckard a replicant or not? My answer would be "you don't know" because I think that's what Dick intended. It's obviously a new story, a reboot from the book, not a copy. In the book, obviously not, but Dick worked with them on the movie, and you know how he'd want it: you get two possible stories and you don't know which one is the truth. For that to happen, you need to lose the inserted unicorn from Scott's Legend, and lose the voice over and tack-on from the theatrical, because they answer it for you, (like the inserted Snow scenes in Mockingjay answer the arcing unanswered question in the Hunger Games books, at what point did it become an inside job? That question is meant to be unanswered, let each reader decide.)

Agreed on expectations, high/low.

As far as I know, Ford hated the narration, I haven't heard him knock the film itself, but maybe I missed it. As for Rutger Hauer, it's easy to clone him, he's a replicant, but how do you explain a 70yo replicant? I'm sure there are actors out there but will they find them, or use sort of less inspired box office draws? Probably the info is up on imdb they're probably in post production already.

Don't look. I wish I hadn't. I'm not going to prejudge. I hope that Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto did a bang up job, and I'm going to forget all about the Joker.

Daryl Hannah was also mesmerizing, and William Sanderson was terrific as JF. I'd like to see the three of them back, (w/hauer) but i'll settle for some cameos.

Scott, just don't make Prometheus, great reveal, Bladerunner edition.

Fancher, please keep Scott's ego in check. Someone has to.
