Did 122 Prisoners Released from Guantanamo Under President Obama Return to the Battlefield?
Although 122 detainees transferred from Guantanamo Bay were found to have subsequently engaged in terrorist activities, 113 of those detainees were released under the administration of President George W. Bush.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

With every change of the Administration's political party comes the "But (fill in the blank of the previous Administration here") where the excuses of the past are used to justify the excesses of the present.

It's as inevitable and as predictable as night follows day. One would like to think that our willing participation in democracy would prevent us from doing the same, over and over. Instead, we get this Groundhog Day repetition from which nobody seems to learn. When Bush pushed Executive Privilege and neo-liberalism, there was "but Clinton!" When Obama engaged in universal surveillance, even more $ to the wealthy, and even more violations of national sovereignty there was "but Bush!".

Sometimes, the past really ID a good excuse for the present. There are a few good REALLY examples -

Economic and financial policy. It's impossible to turn economics and finances on a dime, specially when past errors have pushed the system into a new space. Roosevelt struggled with the Great Depression for years, Obama struggled with the Great Recession for years. Trump will struggle with something much worse. But the distribution of money from poor to rich and from the USA to China has been going on for literally decades, and only a financial catastrophe will change that quickly.

Climate shift, and overpopulation. Again, errors in the past can't be overcome quickly. Mother Nature: She is a bitch.

BUT Geopolitics and politics ... changing hearts and minds? Well, they can be changed in an (almost) instant. Germans became Nazis. The Cultural Revolution is looked back on - fondly- by its participants. Twelve years after defeating Japan in a bitter war that killed hundreds of thousands on one side and millions on another, we were buying small, portable plastic-encased transistor radios to replace the tube monsters before them. I vividly recall those radios being called "cheap Japanese junk", and then they took over the market.

People are fickle.

Bush let all those Guantanamo prisoners go, not Obama. And for 8 years he couldn't even bring any of them in front of a military tribunal, let alone a trial.

The thing is, I don't blame Bush either. The pressure to end a type of incarceration that was seen by the Muslim world as atrocious, even if it wasn't, had to have forced Bushs' hand. The very idea of Guantanamo according to the experts, was creating more terrorists. At least on the battle field we got another shot at killing them. ( pun intended )

I have to admit, I agree with what SIG says about the lies told by each incoming administration regarding the outgoing. Lies that place blame or takes credit. Much as we witness here. It's sad watching how some are still hiding behind Hilary.

True enough. Misdirection. Direct your attention to this so you don't see what others are doing. i.e. Trump and company.

Japense tech was at first,"cheap Japanese crap." Over time they got better, and it was just cheap, which just about every penny loving Consumer flocked to.

I imagine after being roasted for 4 or 8 years from just about everyone, that presidents take their foot off the gas as their time comes to an close and don't tie up all the loose ends. That's just natural too.

I don't know what any of that has to do with Trump's observable, verifiable lies though - misdirection? Nothing to see here?

After Reagan fixed Carter's disaster, Bush41 had nothing to blame on Reagan, except that darned pesky fictional "Peace Dividend" as well as loss of an opposition Super-Power. (meaning Super Power Nation, not DC/Marvel Super Power)
