Great 7 part series so far (on the 5th ep). Western drama, brutal & savage, sometimes funny, excellent cast, impressive to look at, soundtrack with tinges of Firefly - highly recommend with one caveat: watch more than the first episode. Series these days take a few eps to get you hooked.

By the way, I've seen rumors online that they may bring back Deadwood. I'll keep an eye out and keep ya posted.

Has a real 'Deadwood' feel to it. Enjoyed it very much.
Also liked the pace...much slower than usual...but felt really good!

Wonderful to see you here. I liked Deadwood. Still, I lose interest in these type shows because the characters I would like became unlikable.

Michelle Dockery? OK, I'll look for it. And Tantoo Cardinal.
Been watch Coates since the excellent Boy in Blue, but usually think of his Waterworld dole.

Yes - pacing was a real welcome. It felt like they knew this universe so well they weren't in a rush which allowed them to delve deeper into characters and the idiosyncratic nature of La Belle and the surrounding areas and people. Like Roy said, "just give him his head and he'll find the way."

But...

SPOILER - Look away unless you have seen the whole show!

This is your last warning!

Select to view spoiler:

I had some issues with the last episode starting with ep 6 - they made such a great start, and like you said established such a nice pace, but then they suffered from what a lot of writers suffer from imho: they didn't know how to finish it!

More later as I see people finishing the show.

Me three.

Watched it all and went to tell hubbs I think the moral of the story is "Life is violent and then things go back to normal and nothing much is learned from it all. Rinse and repeat."

Not that that ISN'T true to life but...I was looking for...more.

Except Michelle's boobs. I coulda done without that so much. I know you guys might not feel the same though

Seemed like it was mostly for shock value, not necessity...But, how's she gonna get away from "Lady Mary" elsewise?? Pbbt.

Amazes me how people can be worth 100 million and still be whining about being "pigeon-holed". Toss me a mill and you can pigeon-hole me any way you like.

I didn't need that either. Don't get me wrong, boobs is nice :) but with so many boobs only a click away it feels like why??? Even more, it feels like an invasion of the actor's privacy. I honestly couldn't wait for the scene to be over.

Select to view spoiler:

It felt so rushed toward the end, like when they got to ep 6 the money was getting tight and they knew they had to wrap things up. The dinner table scene at Blackton was intense, it was incredible... up until the end. The resolution of that scene ultimately made the effort they put into Blackton pretty much a completely wasted story device.
Same with the Quick Silver Mining Security team. That was - huh? WTF? That's it? Roy just casually shoots a guy in the leg and then makes a joke? Then they leave the horses behind that they really could have used and ride off - crazy, made no sense. I wondered who wrote that part because it was completely out of character for him and just cheesey as hell. I was looking for Arnold to pop into frame and say something.
And Kim Coates was gold - loved his delivery and his character. And then he was just gone from the story. I was hoping he and his security team would have to defend La Belle against Frank Griffin - that would have been an interesting play of "bad guys against bad guys."

Also - I just don't like seeing women get shot. Period. Not even in obvious make believe. Apart from that the shootout at the end had so many issues... and the resolution of the Frank Griffin, the story's Big Bad... was flat. Truckie was just tacked on at the end.

And was that our hero literally riding off into the sunset?? After breathing new life into the genre it felt weird to end like that. If they were trying to wink at us and be funny it failed completely for me.

Having said all that I hope they make another one - they definitely have my attention.

Seems somebody in this thread buried the lead.

FYI, regarding the guy POV. It is nice to see the most beautiful women in the world sharing their beauty with us. The human eye is attracted to beautiful sights. Scenes with women having physical romance with their bra on, or the bedsheets up to their shoulders just collapses the suspension of disbelief. Who does that in real life? In Hollywood many actresses only want to show off their surgically sculpted enhancements or reupholstery.
I have not seen Michelle Dockery topless, but she is strikingly attractive and I assume she has original equipment, so I applaud her empowerment of controlling her exposure. This sounds refreshing.
Itbis disheartening to hear the scene was not plausible or in character.

"Just a click away" belies the difficulty and inherent dangers of negotiating and navigating through the plethora of Fake to happen upon captivating natural beauty.

Alone with your partner in your bedroom, habitually?
I have heard of women who wear a bra and makeup to bed every night, by I have not been with one.

OK, watched the first two episodes. It's good, but killing off a whole town with the threat of completely killing off other towns is kind of extreme.

What part of "lotsa places" are you not getting?

Have you never had sex anywhere but a bedroom?

Wait, have you EVER had sex??? Would explain your weird attitudes...

I had a similar impression at first; "too much." Too much gore/violence, too much mystery, trying too hard... but it got better. It got real good for me after ep 2.

At least the fact that they massacred a whole town was presented more in a factual instead of visual way. Much of the violence takes place in the mind instead of on the screen.

They are in there twice, but not till the later episodes. One was during a rape scene, and one love scene.

You know, you can load up an episode and wait about 30 seconds and scan through the still frames...if you are really desperate to see her petite ski-slopes.

If you like skinny gals I guess they're ok... Not all that fascinating to me.

I wonder if she had a clause in her contract restricting racy roles while she was portraying that role.
