SF Literary Snobs

Thursday, February 5, 2004 4:05 PM

I was recently in a conversation with person who regarded "Firefly" as something she scraped off the bottom of her shoe because it was a TV series. I love all science fiction, no matter what form it takes. Some people just cannot be helped.

I feel for you. No one really likes things I like. But I have 2 (count 'em, 2!) potential converts.

But really, hope you have better luck.

That's just rediculous. I wouldn't categorize it as sf, but it's still a fabulous show.

You've no idea how deep the snobbery in parts of the sf community runs. To many of them, if it's not Asimov or Heinlein, it's just not worth their precious time. Of course most of these types are men of 50+ years who don't understand why women felt the need to go into the workplace.

Oh, I feel so stereotyped! Although I have no problem with women in the workplace, since that's how I met Madame Geezer. Apparently 50+ male Starship Troopers aren't the only ones in the sci-fi community who can be snobs. ;<)
